Brookside Acres offers the ultimate in country accommodations and 140 private acres of easy to challenging trail heads that wind into the solitude of nature in all seasons. Trails will take you onto additional thousands of acres of private timber and state land. Plan on encountering wildlife but not people or noisy machines. Slip on your snowshoes or hiking boots at the back door and take off for an hour or half the day. Backcountry cross country at your level of expertise, or warm yourself by the outdoor fire pit with simmering hot chocolate. However you choose to spend your day, you're sure to feel rejuvenated and rested in the 'Roost' at Brookside.

You may also enjoy skiing at any three ski resorts within 90 minutes of Brookside: 49 Degrees North, Mt. Spokane, and Schweitzer Ski Resort. Silver Mountain is a bit further. Stoneridge Golf and Recreation Resort is a ten-minute drive and offers year around pool and hot tub. You'll find many other golf courses for summer use in our area.

We offer fine furnishings including comfortable king-sized beds, two full bathrooms and complete kitchen and laundry. The living room is equipped with a 36in HD TV, with TVO Direct TV and DVD machine. Enveloped by farm and timberland, you'll likely be wakened each morning by our friendly rooster, Beethoven, and lulled to sleep by the sounds of the nearby creek, horses nickering and coyotes crying in the distance.

Brookside Acres is located at the far west end of Blanchard Valley and, since 1939, has been a diary farm, a cattle ranch, has been logged numerous times as has the surrounding area. Larry and Bonnie Reichert are taking a more conservative approach and continue to raise hay for sale and their own livestock. Guests are welcome to bring their own horses and ride surrounding trails.

In the foothills of the Selkirks, Mt. Spokane at 5400’ is the highest nearby mountain. Brookside Acres sits at 2700’ and is accessed from the west over a small pass which elevation equals that of Snoqualmie Pass in the Washington Cascades. You’ll normally find the pass enshrouded with snow through April. From the east, Brookside lies six miles from the town of Blanchard, Idaho.

We are certain that you’ll enjoy and prize these surroundings as we do.

This place is wonderful!

I vacationed here with my four kids, ages 10 years down to one year old in August. We found this place to be beautiful, very clean (a necessity with a crawling inquisitive baby) and very comfortable. We had a fabulous time relaxing including hiking, swimming, horseback riding, and enjoying this beautiful horse farm and the surrounding area. There are wonderful mowed trails up into the mountains right off the property with beautiful views, and we found their dog to be the nicest dog in the world to accompany us in the wilderness. My kids loved waking to see the most beautiful horses, and falling asleep after gazing at the night sky where the stars really shine. We were surprised to find our dog phobic child wanted to take their gentle dog home with them as well by the end of our trip. The beds were comfortable, there was good climate control, the decorating is beautiful combining modern granite and warm hardwood, comfortable linens, warm colors, and watercolors on the walls. We travel often and it would compare favorably to any hotel or bed and breakfast. Little things like the deck having smooth composite decking for bare footed children and comfortable chairs were nice surprises. The pool was very clean and good size, as well as the bathrooms and bedrooms so we didn't feel squeezed. We found the usual wishing for this or that at these types of accommodations didn't occur here, as details from a coffee grinder and deluxe coffeepot down to the high end washing machine kept us comfortable. These are wonderful, quiet surroundings to drink in the beauty of a well kept horse farm, but still be able to reach the city for an event or a game or golf within a reasonable drive, which we needed. We wished we had another week to stay and hope to return. We really couldn't recommend this place high enough!

What a fantastic find. The pictures looked charming and it was close by to a wedding we were attending so we took a chance and booked. When we drove up we were overjoyed with our choice. The setting is so peaceful and the guest house was charming and spacious . Charming also describes the host who we consider our new friend. This is the perfect getaway and we will be coming back here again.

We wanted to stay somewhere that gave us lots of outdoor activities and we found it. This place would be great winter or summer. We are going back again this July to do all the hiking activities during the summer. Snow shoeing was great during the winter. The best thing about this property other than the price is the actual accommodations. Very nice - very modern - very big. You could easily have 6 people staying here and not be on top of one another. Bathrooms are big and great! Kitchen is full kitchen so you can cook/plan whatever meals you would like. It is also dog friendly, which made my medium sized dog very happy. If you like the great outdoors with the feel of luxury hotel - this is the place for you. We are going to be life-long occupants I think.

Perfect Ironman stay

Staying at Brookside Acres was the best part of our Coeur d'Alene trip. We lapsed into relaxation mode about thirty seconds after we got there. Larry and Bonnie did everything possible to make us feel at home, including sharing their daily newspaper and their dogs. We tagged along to community events, met their family, friends and neighbors, and ventured out to nearby Spirit Lake, Newport, and Spokane, as well as to Kelowna when we could tear ourselves away from this peaceful spot. Not to be missed are the breakfasts at Blanchard Community Center (catch a glimpse of Larry in the kitchen), moose sighting excursions, and, if you are lucky, Fourth of July fireworks at the golf course! The online pictures cannot capture the feel of the house; only a few nights sleeping in the wonderful beds with the evening breezes relaxing you, sitting on the deck listening to the rooster, or sipping coffee in the charming kitchen every morning can do that. The place was sparkling clean, quite spacious for two couples for two weeks, and very comfortably furnished. We are ready to return for more photo ops with the barn, the hay baling, the horses, and the exceptional hosts! Our best advice is to ignore the exercise room while you are there and stay outside listening to the creek or watching the horses. We have had only great VRBO experiences, but this one tops them all!
