CHIC + MODERN FARMHOUSE ON 2 ACRES SHELTER ISLAND, HAMPTONS

Shelter Island Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

Farmhouse, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, (Sleeps 8)

The house is a beautiful old farmhouse built in the 1890s nestled on a quiet 2 acres. It is a bright and airy (2500 square feet) with all the original woodwork and a screened porch.

The main floor features a living room with fireplace and bay windows. The parlor has a cozy seating area and leads out to the screened front porch. The dining room seats 8 comfortably.

The renovated chef's kitchen has a vast island with counter stools from France. It has a mudroom with a washer and dryer and leads outside to the arbor and original barn. There is a large umbrella and teak dining table with chairs for entertaining and a Weber Grill.

Also on the main floor is a guest room with a queen bed, attached restroom and shower. The original owner was a plumber and created the toilet and sink in one closet and the shower in another closet. Interesting, but it works.

On the second floor there is the large master bedroom with a king-size bed, restroom with toilet and shower. The sink is a wet bar area outside the bathroom, and this is also a former closet. Like the downstairs bathroom, it's creative plumbing but hey, it's clean and it works. There's a TV/media room with a flat screen TV, and DVD player. Two additional bedrooms have two twin beds (perfect for children) and a full-size bed. There's a bathroom with a bathtub and shower on the second floor which is a conventional bathroom.

The back yard is private and filled with oak, maple, cedar, and pine trees. There's a 100 year old blueberry patch and wildflowers in the meadow. There are several outdoor areas furnished with teak adirondack chairs, lounge chairs, and a hammock.

The house is within easy walking distance of Vine Street Cafe, tennis courts, basketball courts, and playgrounds. Wade's Beach is about a mile away so an easy bike ride.

About Jill Vegas + Michael Zimberg

The owners have two young children who have grown up spending summers on Shelter Island. They bought the house from the original owner and have lovingly renovated this beautiful home.

Jill Vegas + Michael Zimberg purchased this farmhouse in 2006

Why Jill Vegas + Michael Zimberg chose Shelter Island

This place feels magical. It's so relaxing and laid back. It's safe, quiet, and the island is small. You can bike anywhere.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Shelter Island is dreamy. Love it's proximity to the Hampton's and North Fork, yet it's tucked away from traffic and crowds. The beaches are gorgeous. Great place to grill, drink coffee, eat on the porch, sunset cocktails, make popcorn and watch movies, read by the fire, go hiking in the Mashomack, it's the idyllic place where children can chase fireflies in the yard.

fantastic vacation

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful week-long vacation in this beautiful home! The house is beautifully appointed, the kitchen is a pleasure to cook in, the enormous garden is perfect for relaxing, grilling and dining. And while it is conveniently centrally located in shelter island, it's also on a pretty and quiet street. We had a great time exploring the beaches and the nature preserve.
The owners were very helpful and responded quickly to any inquiries.
We'll definitely come back!

Great vacation spot

  • 5 of 5
I stayed at this lovely house for two long weekends – one in the summer and one in the winter. It’s not often you find a place that is perfect in both seasons – airy, bright and breezy in the summer, warm and cozy in the winter. The décor is chic and the layout is great (one very separate bedroom downstairs, large eat-in-kitchen plus separate dining room, 2 living rooms and upstairs TV room). The street is super quiet, yet you can walk to a terrific cup of coffee and amazing jelly donut – or full meal – at Kyles or to Commander Cody’s for fried chicken, ribs and fish. Everything on the Island is an easy drive, or you can just hang out in the backyard on an Adirondack chair and watch foxes and rabbits frolic. Shelter Island is a magical place and staying in this house makes you feel at home. Can’t wait to come back – maybe for fall.

Perfect vacation house

I stayed here for 2 long weekends - in the summer and in the winter. It's not often that you can find a place that works so well for both seasons. The house is bright and breezy in the summer, warm and cozy in the winter. Great decor and layout - one very separate B/R on 1st floor, 3 upstairs; 2 living rooms and a cozy den/TV room; eat-in-kitchen and separate dining room. The street is super quiet, yet you can walk to Kyle's for coffee and amazing jelly donuts or a great meal or to Commander Cody's for fried chicken, ribs and fish. Shelter Island is a magical, mellow, beautiful place, and staying here made me feel like part of the community. Can't wait to go back - maybe for the fall!

Great Fall Vacation

  • 4 of 5
My wife and I rented this location in late September and had a very relaxing week off. Both the house and yard were spacious and inviting. The home is centrally located which made exploring the island quite easy. The access to both the North Fork and Sag Harbor really made for a fantastic opportunity to see all that the east end of Long Island has to offer
