Sit by a river.
Find peace and meaning
In the rhythm
Of the lifeblood of the Earth.
Little House on the River is nestled at the base of the western slope of the Cumberland Mountains in the scenic Rocky River Community of Van Buren County. Situated in the heart of Middle Tennessee, and centrally located between Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Nashville, it is located 2.8 miles off Hwy. 30 - 15 miles east of McMinnville and 15 miles west of Spencer at 14142 Rocky River Road, Rock Island, TN.
This cozy little cottage was completed in October 2008. It is surrounded by over 5 acres of privacy, has 640 square feet of living space, 384 square feet of covered porches, and a 162 square feet patio.
You won't be able to resist relaxing in the swing or sitting in one of the rocking chairs on the back porch as you watch the river wash your cares away. You will also want to hike along the almost 1400 feet of clean, spring-fed river. Keep your eyes open for beavers, otters, squirrels, chipmunks, wood ducks, blue herons, Canada geese, and the neighbors cows across the river. Bring your fishing pole - the river is stocked with trout several times a year.
You will want to walk down to the river and spend some peaceful time there with its beautiful views up and down the river. There is a hammock right above there that is just waiting for you. You are going to love the soothing sounds of the water as the river ripples by.
The house has one bedroom with a queen-size bed and window with a view of the river. There is one bath with a tub/shower combo. Bed linens are provided as well as towels and wash cloths. Towels for any river activity are NOT provided. There is a sofa in the living room that includes two recliners -- it is NOT a sofa bed. A TV with DISH service and DVD player are also in that area. The kitchen is stocked with basic cooking and serving supplies. There is not a coffee maker on site, but complimentary instant Folger's is provided. A phone is NOT provided. Cell phone service is possible but not optimal. A heating / air conditioning unit is located in the living area, along with an electric 'wood burning' stove. Cuddle up in the winter months or open the windows in mild weather to enjoy the refreshing breeze.
A charcoal grill is on site, but you'll need to bring your own charcoal. There is also a fire ring with firewood provided.

We enjoyed our visit so much! Little House is such a beautiful and natural get-a-way. We left very relaxed and rested. Thank yo so much for sharing your home with us.
Your hosts are Debby & Joe Moffitt. We have always lived in Middle Tennessee and feel fortunate to be so close to so much natural beauty. Joe is a retired school administrator and we still operate a nursery - Shangri La Farm - primarily selling daylilies. Together, we have 12 children and 27 grandchildren.
After looking at river / creek property for several years, we found our dream spot near the headwaters of Rocky River. It is located close to our primary residence and is a favorite spot when children and grandchildren visit.
As much as we love this place we call home, we also love to travel. As we have done that, and used a variety of accommodations, we have discovered that our favorite places to stay are similar to what we built overlooking Rocky River. Our idea of a perfect getaway - is just that - a getaway: from the traffic, the crowds, the noise, and the lure of tourist traps.
The location is a real plus. Rock Island State Park is about 15 minutes away. Cumberland Caverns is about the same. The Rocky River Bluegrass Festival is only 3 miles up the road. Driving just a little bit longer will take you to beautiful Fall Creek Falls State Park. As fun as those destinations are, there are not words to describe the picturesque Rocky River farming community, the sounds and sights of nature, and the calming effect of the river as it ripples by. We think you'll love Little House as much as we do! Leave your cares behind and come recharge at one of the prettiest little spots on earth.
Rock Island State Park is close by and it offers a lot of outdoor activities: fishing, boating, kayaking, hiking, bicycling, swimming, etc. Fall Creek Falls is a little further away and offers these options: swimming (including a pool) hiking, canoeing, paddle boating, bicycling, horseback riding, golf, tennis, etc. Cumberland Caverns is a short drive if you'd like to do a little spelunking. Links to all of these are at our website, along with several others.
