Great get-away!

We loved staying in this home for our Thanksgiving holiday with our family. Our teenagers were entertained with the well supplied game room as well as wandering around in the big outdoors. The abundance of decks and balconies provided opportunity to view the amazing landscape and wild life. The wine tasters greatly appreciated the lovely bottle of wine gifted to us as well as the discount cards to near-by wineries. The home is well appointed providing well for our large group's every need. The house was clean and well-maintained. The bedrooms were very comfy. The kitchen was well equipped. The location is a bit far from town but the lake is very close. The drive was well worth it to us. We took part in the delightful tree lighting that took place in the town square the day after Thanksgiving giving us a taste of small town America. Christine was very helpful in answering our questions prior to our arrival giving us precise directions. We loved the wine tasting at the Tobin James Cellars & Halter Ranch Vineyard and a visit to the Pasolivo Tasting Room & Olive Mill was also a real treat. We'd like to return in the future and highly recommend this property to all our friends.

Could not wait to leave!

My brother booked this house for family members coming to his sons wedding. We were an hour and a half away from the rehearsal dinner activities in San Luis Obispo and the same for the wedding itself at a winery near Creston. The owner said we were "close" to both activities. The instructions to find the place were not very good at all. The address given showed up on two of our GPSs much further down the road. The entry code for the gate sometimes had to be punched in more than 4-5 times on more than one occasion. The place is entirely too far away from anything but wine tours and the drive is horrible. It's pretty, but who can admire the landscape when you're driving twisty, tight curves up and down the hills? Yeah, time to get there is misleading.
The only entrance to the main living area of the house is up a very steep flight of stairs which is definitely not handicap accessible...and we had two such people in our party. It was also very difficult to haul in groceries, baggage, etc. There were no trash cans in the bedrooms or the half bath or the living room or the game room. The bathrooms were claustrophobic! Heaven help the person over 5' and weighing over 150! An extremely tight squeeze to sit on the toilet and/or use the tub. We never did get the air co to work. We were very hot from 9 am until about 9 pm. We called the manager/owner (Chris) shortly after we arrived. I left on Sunday morning and we still had not heard from her. The deck outside was scary (downstairs), in that it felt shaky and kinda rotten. We considered grilling out there until we realized what a hassle it would be to have to run around the house to the entry, and then up and down the stairs with the food. Poor layout. And lastly, anyone in the living area was subject to EVERY conversation, EVERY use of the toilet and shower, and any other racket from the loft.
For the amount of money this cost, I thought it was outrageous to expect your guests to take out the trash and run the dishwasher, etc. I don't do that in a $50 hotel room! And then to require money for the darn jukebox? Definitely will not be back and definitely will not recommend this property to anyone. We were all sorely disappointed. Oh, and it only sleeps 10 adults and one child under 80 pounds.

Owner's Response: In response to this review, I would like to say that we are are responsible property owners and take it very seriously when someone has a complaint or has a problem while they are staying in the home. This is why I make my phone number available at all times. When the brother called me on the phone prior to reserving the home, he asked me if the home was handicapped accessible, I disclosed it was not due to the stairs in the house that lead to the main floor.
In addition he also asked me how far is the house from town in which I understood to mean Paso Robles, no mention of Creston or San Luis Obispo I would never recommend someone to stay in the home if they are looking for convenience and close proximity to locations other than Paso Robles. I was contacted on the first night of the guests stay about 1 of the a/c units not working by 1 of the guests close to 6:00 in the evening, I made every effort to contact the brother who rented the house by phone and text messaging to contact me to see if anyone will be there or to get permission so I can send someone to check the A/C unit, by California Law I cannot allow someone access to the house unless I have permission by the guests. I never received any return text messages or phone calls. My housekeeper always runs the A/C while cleaning to make sure it is working properly prior to the guests arrival she verified it was working fine. Upon the departure of the guests our maintenance man checked the A/C to find that 1 of the units was unplugged within the house. In Reference to the windy roads the directions state that the roads are windy I cannot fix or change this, this is what gives the area the character and charm of wine country. I can assure anyone that the design of the house is comfortable and makes it a great vacation home. In reference to the bathrooms the tubs and toilets are standard size that come in most homes. The deck outside is secure and safe to enjoy for gatherings and BBQ's.About taking the trash out to the trash cans outside and running the dishwasher, this is typical of a vacation rental in Europe and U.S. One thing I will say I agree with is the Jukebox we have tried to change the settings to allow free play of songs, sorry about this one. Also in regards to the number of people the home sleeps it does sleep 12 we have 1 king, 3 queens and 1 full size bunkbed the top bunk can sleep 2 children which equals 12 people. We care & appreciate feedback so we can improve our guests experience.

Great Vacation for All Ages

  • 5 of 5
Our family of 6, spanning 4 generations, stayed for a week in June. The house is very spacious and included everything we could possibly need. We did a little fishing on the lake, some wine tasting, bird watching and wildlife spotting, grilled every night on the deck, played some pool, and enjoyed some quality family time. We had considered a day trip to Morro Bay or Cambria but this property was so relaxing and peaceful, we opted not to deal with the tourists just see the ocean. But if you surf or ocean kayak, it's all nearby.

We are a family of 10 of all ages this home was the perfect size for a big family. We loved the natural setting with the oak trees and mountains with a cool breeze in the late afternoon. Great place to take nature walks and see some wild turkeys and deer. We BBQ on the deck that had great views of the mountains. Great to be away from the city to do nothing and just relax or venture off. We ventured off to some wineries to do wine tasting. The kids had a great time with plenty of room to run around.

Nice house, friendly owner, but room for improvement

  • 3 of 5
This review is based on feedback from three couples that stayed for 3 nights. Overall, it was a nice home and it was clean, but there was definitely a need for improvement. We appreciated that the Owner was available when we would call her.

Here is a list of comments based on the respective areas:

Booking: Fairly easy and the Owner was kind enough to provide some passes for free wine tastings.

Directions: The directions were misleading and not well written or provided in a clear format. Consider going there the first time during the day. It was difficult to find at night.

Location: Beautiful setting, but more like 20 minutes from Justin vs the advertised 10 min.

View: Nice view of the riverbed (which is dry in the Winter), but orange construction piping down by the river bed.

*Good condition, but awkwardly laid out in terms of the floor plan.
*Master bedroom/bathroom does not have floor to ceiling walls on the inside of the house. Sound coming from the living room will be heard in the Master bedroom. Sound coming from the Master Bedroom or Master Bathroom can be heard in the Living room.
*Thermostat was not functioning when our group arrived. It appears the batteries need to be replaced. This should have been done before we arrived. The Owner did have a House Manager come to turn on the thermostat and get the heat working.
*No instructions for the fireplace, so we could not turn it on. The House Manager was not able to turn on the fireplace.
*Pans were not in good condition. Teflon were scratched to the point that they were unhealthy to use.
*Liquid soap dispensers were almost empty and there was no soap provided for the showers/bath.
*Towels were ratty and felt cheap.
*Sheets were clean.
*Jukebox required money to operate which takes the fun out of playing the machine while enjoying the pool table.
*Game room was entertaining – nice plus to have pool table and foosball.
*Comfortable beds, except master bedroom’s bed was about 3 feet up
*Goods size entertainment system, but we were unable to figure out how to turn on music. No instructions.

In comparison to how other homes are managed and the price paid, we rated this stay as an Average.

Rural Environment - Large and Accommodating House

  • 4 of 5
We did not know the area and were surprised at the very rural scrub oak landscape and (in December) the very low water levels which dried up a large portion of the lake. Those who do not like feeling isolated should consider properties around the main part of the lake, as they would offer more of a neighborhood feel. That said, the house stands out as a very nice and accommodating exception to the surroundings, with three levels and room for a large group. It was too cold and the days too short to take full advantage of the large decks but these would expand the living area as well in warmer months. There were hot water issues on the top floor which we understand the owner is addressing. The Justin winery is just 15 or so minutes away and gave a tour which even the wine sophisticates in the group found interesting, with a wonderful tasting set up thereafter.
Our three families were satisfied with the property and have no major complaints -- we were able to relax, do all the cooking in we like to do and enjoy each other's company in the spacious living and dining areas.
