Amazing NYE Rental!!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the property with a group of couples for NYE and absolutely loved the cabin and property. The cabin is a HUGE open space living area and was perfect for ringing in the new year. It was cold while we were there, but the secluded property is great for big groups and families. We'll definitely rent again!

A Week of Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

The Lodge on the Lake was everything that it was advertised to be. Our family had a great time for a week swimming, kayaking, and sitting by the fire. We especially enjoyed the quiet mornings on the gazebo watching the mist rise off the lake and listening to the birds. Throughout the day we floated in the water off of the beach and deck. Our dog loved the area and swam along with us most of the day and was "dog tired" (excuse the pun) by the end of the day. The lodge was clean and ready to go on time for us and was stocked with everything that we needed for a great week! It is located close enough to the Hocking Hills attractions if someone chooses to roam around a day or two but we chose to stay on site and relax. Satellite tv reception was very good as we watched the last episode of "24".

Not what we were hoping for.

  • 3 of 5

Every year a group of us rent a cabin in southern Ohio for a guys fishing weekend. This year, we figured we would step up a little in terms of accommodations and chose the Lodge on the Lake. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to expectations. I'll start out with the positives. The interior of the Lodge was clean and the woodwork is impressive. The beds and linens were nice and clean. The available pots, pans, silverware, and dishes are okay. The lake itself is clean, however, it is nowhere near nine acres. I live on four acres and I'd say the lake is closer to that than nine. There are a ton of bluegill and a few small bass.

There is a video camera on a utility pole in the driveway and a sign stating that you are being recorded. I've rented dozens of cabins and this is the first one that had a surveillance camera. We had no plans on doing anything nefarious, however, found the camera to be a major negative. We go to places like this to get away from people and didn't like the feeling that we were being watched every time we stepped out of the cabin.

I would have preferred a propane grill, but the property manager said that cabins no longer have them due to insurance issues. That may very well be the case, but if so, this is a new development since our cabins have always had propane grills including the one we rented in 2012.

Finally, there were things that I wouldn't expect out of a cabin that cost this much. The outdoor furniture is ragged and falling apart. The basketball hoop is hanging down at about six feet with a torn net. There is no basketball. The table tennis racquets are trashed with many of them wrapped in tape. These are minor things, but again, when you are renting a place this expensive, I would expect the minor things to be taken care of.

Overall, the cabin isn't bad, but I would have expected to pay about half what we did. For a two bedroom with a loft, it's too expensive.

Owner's Response: It's always disappointing for any company to receive a less than stellar review, but this one is especially so because the guest never contacted us to relay any of her concerns during their 4 day/3 night stay, and did not choose to bring any issues to our attention before leaving this review. We would have been happy to immediately address any deficiencies, as we strive for total guest satisfaction, but obviously cannot address any challenges without the opportunity to do so. Unfortunately, the security camera is something that is common at area rentals because of the rise in copper thefts in the region (just 1 week ago, the utility company shut down power for over 8000 homes to repair the damage done by one copper thief), and it is clear from the sign and the camera itself that it only points at the driveway/entrance from the main road. Regarding the charcoal grill, the renter was notified before booking, at booking , and again prior to arrival that we have charcoal grills, so I'm not sure where any confusion or complaint comes from. We would have been happy to tell the guests where the replacement paddles/basketballs are located, had they contacted us during their stay. Again, we at the property management company do indeed strive for complete customer satisfaction, and happily invite our guests to contact us with any questions or concerns both before/after booking and during stays so we may address issues immediately for proper resolution, lest a guest feel the need to instead leave a negative review without offering any chance at resolution. Thank you!

Hunters Paradise in Hocking Hills

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at the Lodge on Lake this past November. Hocking County ranks as one of the premier counties in the state of Ohio for trophy bucks harvested. The layout of the property is beautiful rolling hills with mature hardwoods. The deer population on this property will also not disappoint the avid hunter. What makes the stay on this property even more impressive is the actual lodge (which is an old barn). After a long day in the woods you can conveniently retreat into the comforts of your own home. From the large kitchen/dining table to the big screen TV to the hot tub on the deck with the majestic view of the lake and rolling hills....Lodge on the Lake offers everything you need for your next hunting trip. As far as the actual lake is concerned I can verify that it is full of fish so don't forget your fishing gear.

We had a great stay at the Lodge on the Lake this past November. Even though we did not harvest a trophy buck during our stay in Ohio, I will absolutely be back next year.

Finally, I also wanted to thank Darla for her hospitality. The level of customer service she provided to us was second to none. Thanks again for making this a memorable one. We cannot wait until November of 2012.

Our Family's Memorable Thanksgiving in the Woods!

  • 5 of 5

I always wanted to do this: Have my family with me and have quiet days in a rustic cabin while we enjoyed Thanksgiving together in peace and quiet. It was wonderful! The Lodge at the Lake was terrific! The listing's description was accurate; just look at the pictures to get a sense of the peacefulness of the setting. Our family made use of the hot tub, the fire pit overlooking the pond, even the ping-pong table. The cabin had all the necessary basic utensils for cooking a complete turkey dinner. The loft bedroom was perfect for the kids. I would highly recommend this cabin!
