Overview

Stahlstown Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

The cottage at Misty Mountain Way is part of a fourteen acre estate situated on the crest of the Laurel Hill Summit with 100 acres of hiking trails. A romantic, peaceful retreat with an unexpected privacy, the cottage boasts a warm and cozy atmosphere. Usually the word cozy is used to convey a politically correct description of a very small uncomfortable area. In this instance, the same word used more accurately describes a tasteful and efficient use of space, without sacrificing warmth. The working kitchen has granite counters and a Viking stove. The intimate dining room, along with the rest of the cottage, is decorated with our favorite antiques we brought home from England. A Bose surround system is shared by the bedroom and sitting areas warmed by a wood burning fireplace. The bath has salon hair products, hair dryer, curling iron, flat iron and other toiletries. The queen size bed has the ultimate in Belgian linens. There is a variety of DVDs for your viewing pleasure.

There are numerous outdoor seating areas to enjoy all aspects of relaxing with nature. Enjoy the sunrise peeking over the summit from the stone patio or the spectacular sun set from the deck or pond. Chairs at the pond provide solitude as frogs warm on the lilly pads in the summer. Relax and lean back in the adirondack chairs at the fire pit while gazing at stars or the moon rising, while a fire warms the cool mountain air. In the fall enjoy the spectacular foliage, sipping a cocktail on the deck, while listening to elk bugling from the adjacent 5000 acre Rachelwood Reserve. Relaxation begins when you arrive as you feel peace, quiet and tranquility at Misty Mountain Way. Nestled in a sea of ferns, buried in a forest, you will be rejuvenated.

The property is 35 miles from Seven Springs Ski Resort as well as Hidden Valley Resort. The city of Johnstown is nearby to the east. Other attractions nearby are the shops in Ligonier, the Country Market and restaurants. Rolling Rock CC and Laurel Valley Golf Club are a ten minute drive. Snowmobile trails are a mile away. There are hundreds of acres of hiking and biking trails at your door. All with the complete privacy of your own home with no crowds. Escape the ordinary at Misty Mountain Way.

About The Owner

Sam is a western Pennsylvania native. Cate is from the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. We both love the seasons and the richness each has to offer. T he area allows us to enjoy skiing, biking, hiking and photography. We have a labrador retriever, Cali Jane. Cate has a passion for food and shares wonderful tastes with all who pass her way. We live on the property and love sharing it with our friends and family.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2001

Why The Owner chose Stahlstown

The property was purchased ten years ago as a work in progress. Over time the main house, the cottage, the art studio and as well as the grounds have been reclaimed. The location is close to many attractions as well as being only 65 miles from downtown Pittsburgh. You have the mountain escape and the beauty of Ligonier at your fingertips. Unlimited hiking trails at your doorstep offer endless miles of privacy, however you navigate. This was initially a private home, we decided it was meant to be shared with those who love the Laurel Highlands as well as privacy.

What makes this cottage unique

The unique benefits of staying at the cottage at Misty Mountain Way are endless. It has been described by one guest as peace on earth. Another described it as therapy from the daily grind. You will find the solitude and simplicity of mountain life which seems to be overlooked daily in the hurried pace most of us live. You will be able to unwind and relax while we meet your every need. The property will provide a refreshing retreat from the stresses of life.

If i could give this place six stars i would. My wife and i had such a amazing time here we didnt want to leave. Sam and Cate are amazing, ive never met anyone as nice or as hospitable as they are. i m enternally in their debt. The memories created for my first annavisary with my wife are priceless and i cant imagine creating them any other way. The cottage was so quaint and romantic and the views from the porch where amazing. Not to mention the incredible food ! Cate is a fantastic chef and can create anything. Its hard for me to find the words to describe how lovely and happy we are that we got the cahnce not only to stay at misty mountain way but to meet two wonderful and incredible people such as Sam and Cate. I would definintely reccomend this place to any couple who is looking for a quiet and romantic gettaway. If your looking for a stress free weekend or even just a night with an amazing breakfast misty mountain way is the place to go. I for one know that i will be returning as soon as Thank you so much Sam and Cate i can never repay either of you. Semper Fi

Could not have dreamed up a better place!

  • 5 of 5

My new husband and I stayed at the cabin the night of our wedding and the following night before leaving for Mexico on our honeymoon. If we would have known how amazing our stay would be for those two short nights, we would have never gone to Mexico and stayed the entire week! Mexico could not have compared to Sam & Cate's place and Cate definately ruined us for any other meal we had the entire week!

The cabin was very romantic and cozy. They did not skip any corners with the little luxuries, furnishings, linens, hospitality, or food. Among some of the delicious meals were homemade sausage gravy & biscuits, fresh squeezed orange juice with pomegranates, french toast, bacon, homemade pizza, french onion soup, chicken pot pie, a chocolate dessert, turkey pate, fruit and cheese spread and more; all homemade!

Sam & Cate are beautiful people and the most wonderful hosts. We cannot thank them enough for our amazing stay. We will be back!

Our home away from home. This place is a must stay any time of the year. My mountain bike trails are minutes away.(Laurel Mountain). OR Hit up Seven Springs/ Hidden Valley for skiing in the winter months. Love the Fireplace. Awesome flexible menu, Chef Cate will have it waiting for your arrival and/or return. Very relaxing after your outdoor activities. We would recommend this get-away for anyone in the area for a 3-4 day break/recharge- THANKS!

Excellent

Our stay can be summed up in one word..Magical! We were late arriving at the property, But Sam and Cate made sure we got there safe. Upon checking in we were welcomed by a roaring fire at the foot of our bed. Chef Cate had prepared seafood gumbo along with freshly made bread and almond cookies that melted in our mouth. In the morning homemade quiches. We headed to Seven Springs to ski for the day and upon our return, homemade pizzas, and pulled pork sandwiches on fresh baked bread awaited. Again a roaring fire. Sam and Cate make sure there are no strangers coming , only friends they haven't meet yet.
