We love coming to Bolivar for the relaxation and getting away from everything. It is so peaceful to sit on our deck in a deck chair or in the hammock and watch and listen to the waves or see the sunset. We live in College Station, which is about 3 hours away and come down as much as we can.
Miriam Gerdes purchased this house in 2010
We have loved coming to Bolivar for many years. The tranquility of the area and the friendly people had us coming back again and again. Now that I have a child, I wanted a place (not too far away) where he could learn to enjoy the beach as much as I do. We were very saddened when Hurricane Ike came and demolished the area and are excited to help in revitalizing the Bolivar Peninsula.
We enjoy the peace and quiet of Bolivar, while Galveston is just a short ferry ride away. The restaurants on Bolivar Peninsula can't be beat either! The beach is a tenth of a mile walk from our house along a paved neighborhood street. The beach is wide and quiet in 'our' area. You will find some surf fishers and families but usually no loud parties!
Clean, beautifully decorated! Had everything we needed and more. Although it rained nearly the entire time, there was loads to do. The beach is super close. You can see it from the window. The beach is clean. Lots of birds to watch. The house has a stack of brochures of nearby attractions, as well as suggestions in the guest book by previous visitors. Lots of movies too! Better than redbox! We love this place and we will be back again & again!
We loved the beach house! Beautiful view of the beach, easy walk to and from. The beach house was wonderfully put together with tasteful decor and furniture. We were able to BBQ and cook all we wanted, play games, and watch movies. Definitely calling back to go next year!
We had a wonderful time at the beach house this summer. Crystal Beach is kept clean! The house was perfect for us. Space everywhere. The kids voted on what everyone liked the most and Charades and smores at the campfire on the beach won! Thank you for the wonderful memeories... We are calling it the cousins retreat!
We had such a glorious vacation thanks to the generosity of Rusty and Miriam. Great hosts. The house had everything we could possibly need and more. Marti- Gras was exceptional. The weather was windy and foggy but that didn't stop us. So many fun things to do, so little time. The beach was beautiful. The sunsets were awesome. On our list to do again!
We had a wonderful time even though the weather was not in our favor. The cabin has a very open floor plan and is decorated nicely. We found it to be very comfortable inside and out. One of the best things for us was that is is located away from the party crowd. If you are looking for a reasonable place to rent for a nice relaxing getaway this is it. Thanks again for the wonderful weekend.
We had a great time and loved the house. It really does have everything you could need especially if you are packing for little ones. It was big enough for 6 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 smaller children. The living and kitchen area was very spacious. The outdoor shower works great and is very convenient! The hammack was a big hit with the men in our group. I also caught my 7 year old reading books for hours on the hammack. I highly recommend getting a golf cart. This made it a lot of fun for the grown ups and kids. I also didn't have to vaccuum my car for hours to get out the sand. Our whole group loved the house, and I got a thumbs up for my choice on this beach home.
Our house is located just 5 miles to the Bolivar ferry which will take you to Galveston. Galveston has many restaurants, live theatre, music, antique homes to tour, Moody Gardens, Schlitterbahn water park and much, much more.
Crystal Beach and the Bolivar Peninsula has just opened a small public golf course and a small seasonal water slide is also a hit with the children. There are also two playgrounds in the area.
Birding and nature areas are close by, including an Audubon Trail. Fishing is big in this area, both by boat, in the surf and at 'Rollover Pass.'
The best thing though is the BEACH, BEACH, BEACH! Fishing, Skim boarding, walking the beach, collecting shells (not exciting shells, but there are shells), chasing and/or catching crabs, flying kites and much more. There are also businesses in the area that rent jet skis (in season) as well as golf carts.
