TOP END 2 BEDROOM APARTMENT IN THE VERY CENTRE OF THE OLD CITY

St Petersburg Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-8)

The apartment is on Bolshaya Morskaya ulitsa (the same street as Faberge & Nabokov lived on) located in the very centre of central Saint Petersburg. It is the best location within the Golden Triangle, that is the area bounded by the Neva river & the Fontanka canal, it is the heart of the old city & contains most of the museums. The apartment is available for short term or long term rentals. It was completely renovated in 2008, new floors, new ceilings, walls re-plastered, new room layout. There are two bathrooms, one is ensuite. Every room has air conditioning. The apartment is on the second floor (immediately above the ground floor), it is 50 metres from Nevsky prospekt, 150 metres from palace square & the Hermitage, it is very central! It has 2 sofa beds one in the living room & one in the sitting room, so could sleep up to 8.

History of the House Jako: In the middle of the XVIII century the land on the which the house was built was occupied by a temporary palace of Empress Elizabeth. After dismantling of the palace there were the royal kitchens and the Throne Hall. The Throne Hall was then given to sculptor E. Falcone for work on the monument to Peter the Great also know as the 'Bronze Horseman'.

Falcone moved here in 1766 & he rebuilt the building which housed the former palace kitchen. He set up a scaffold for his work in the yard. In 1773, Falcone was visited by his friend the french philosopher Diderot, he stayed in the house until 1778, when he returned to France.

After the departure of the French the site housed a warehouse of marble for the construction of a number of buildings which gave rise to the naming of the laneway at the side of the bulding: Kirpichny (brick) lane. In 1801 the site owned by a merchant, the Prussian consul in St. Petersburg, when a residential two-storey house was built. In 1822 his heirs divied the land in two, the side adjacent to the Bolshaya Morskaya Street in 1836 was sold to architect Paul Jaco who designed many historical buildings in St. Petesburg.

In the years 1837-1838 Jaco built the current four-story building. Iron girders were used in the construction of first floor windows - an innovation in the local civil engineering. In 1842 Faberge started his business with the openning of a workshop in the basement. During the 1860s Chief Marshal Count Ivan M. Tolstoy lived in hosue Jaco, who had been former Senator and Minister of Posts and Telegraphs, a member of the State Council. Jaco house remained in the his family until 1917.

In the 1930s the kirpichny (brick) lane end of the house become the 'House of Artists', or an artists commune.

BEAUTIFUL, SPACIOUS, QUIET AND CONVENIENT

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful stay in the apartment in St. Petersburg during the White Nights. The location is perfect and the wide window sills in the kitchen and living room are great for people watching. Everything was within footsteps of the apartment, including the ATM, groceries, and of course the Hermitage. The apartment is spotless and well provisioned. The Wifi was a big plus, as was the complementary Chrome Book on the desk in the living room. We were 7 adults so we used the fold-outs in the living room and kitchen. Everyone was comfortable. We would definitely come back or recommend it to friends!

A GREAT APARTMENT

  • 5 of 5
This is a great apartment in a great location, only a block off Nevsky Prospekt. There are two bedrooms and two showers (one bath). There is also a couch that pulls out into a bed. In our bath/shower there was always hot water, though in the other, hot water was a little spotty. It has new appliances: stove, washer, microwave. New parquet floors (take you shoes off like all Russians do). Tatyana is very knowledgeable and helpful, though her English is spotty. I speak Russian so that was not a problem. If there is a criticism, it would be that the the place could use a couple of coffee tables in front of the two couches. All in all I highly recommend this as a place to stay in St. Petersburg.

EVERYTHING IT CLAIMS TO BE AND WE WOULD DEFINITELY STAY AGAIN IF BACK IN ST P

  • 5 of 5
- we loved the location- very near the Hermitage and walking distance from everything we wanted to see. A 20-25 minute walk straight down Nevksy from the train station.
- excellent condition, extremely clean, and equipped with everything you will need, including dishwasher and clothes washer, Wifi. Even a computer, printer and local cell phone!
- filtered water system was great as Lonely Planet recommends against drinking tap water
- the owners (Peter and Yana) were great and very responsive throughout the entire process from booking to staying to damage deposit refund
- some street noise (people and traffic) throughout the night because it is so central and a 2nd floor. Hard to avoid unless staying well out of the core and away from major roads, which even then is no guarantee. No noise at all from adjacent apartments.
- lots of restaurants of all price ranges nearby, plus lots of stores where it was easy to buy the basics for breakfast and other meals
- Hermitage tip: buy the 2 day pass online and in advance (not available at the Hermitage). Not much more than a 1 day and you will want the extra time.
- we have friends visiting St P next year and have recommended the try to book Peter and Yana's place

BEAUTIFUL APARTMENT IN A BEAUTIFUL CITY!

  • 5 of 5
My family stayed for two weeks in this lovely apartment. The listing description is very accurate. This location is perfect. So close to everything. The apartment is spacious and comfortable. It is very well maintained and very clean. Working with the owner was very easy. He was helpful with information regarding banks, restaurants, and grocery stores. He was very quick to respond to any questions I had before we left. We used both the pull out couch in the kitchen for sleeping and the pull out couch in the living room. The doors to the living room close nicely for privacy. Both bathrooms were very comfortable and clean.

It is easy to walk to the Hermitage, St. Isaac's Cathedral, Church on Spilled Blood, Cathedral of Our Lady of Kazan, and The Bronze Horseman. It is also a nice walk to the Summer Garden, Russian Museum, Peter and Paul Fortress, and Vasilevskiy Island. I don't believe there is a better location than here in this city. Although the grocery stores very close to the apartment are convenient, they don't have much when it comes to fresh fruits or vegetables. You will have to walk just a bit farther to one that is a little bigger, but still within easy walking distance.

If I am ever lucky enough to return to St. Petersburg, I would definitely stay here again.

THE PERFECT WEEK IN THE CITY ON NEVA.

  • 5 of 5
Palatial apartment in the best location in the city. 2 minutes form the Palace Square and 5 minutes from Our Lady of Kazan Cathedral, right on Nevsky, but in the quiet street. High ceilings and thematically chosen furniture invokes the time from pre-Revolutionary Petrograd. The city is a symphony in granite that is a must for anybodies bucket list. This apartment is perfect for the family of 3 or 4, with separate master bedroom to ensure the privacy for the parents. The host was prompt, gracious and very helpful. Apartment is pristine and all that you need is there including prepaid local phone if you need one. We stay in apartments all over the world, but so far this was the best apartment for very reasonable price, considering the location. I would recommend it to all out friends planning to go there and if we come back I will only stay there.

Tsentralny (central) District

St. Petersburg is a large city of 5 million people. When visiting the most desirable location to stay in is the Tsentralny (central) District. This is where the 'living museum' is located, this is the old city which where most of the Museums, Palaces & Theaters are located. You can walk to the Hermitage & Russian museums, take a boat trip on the canal, enjoy Nevsky prospect for it shopping & people watching.
