I am a scientist, organic chemist, and work at a biotech in San Diego. My wife Maggi, is a Realtor in San Diego and Mary is a geologist and owner of her own company. We jointly own this property. We love nature, kayaking, scuba, snorkeling, hiking, swimming, dining, entertaining and meeting interesting people.
Margaret Kawasaki purchased this house in 2004
We were mesmerized by the natural beauty of Loreto Bay. We found the people of Loreto Bay and Loreto so interesting, engaging, and friendly. A short drive (about 7 min) to the new Loreto international airport, 10 min to town.
A very short walk to the beach (107 yd). Long walks on the beach in the sun or long days just being on the beach under the palapas. Kayak trips that last for hours. We typically see abundant wildlife: dolphins, fish, rays, birds. Whale-watching (Jan-Mar) is incredible and requires only about a 3 hour drive on excellent roads to the Pacific Ocean (you can book a trip or drive yourself). Loreto Bay is a golfer's paradise! End the day in our viewing tower with spectacular views of the mountains and ocean.
We really enjoyed our stay at this very lovely casa in Loreto Bay. Even though it was just the two of us, the home is really ideal for couples travelling together as there are two bedrooms with very comfortable king size beds, on separate levels with full ensuite bathrooms with double soaker tubs, that provide privacy and space. The living, dining and kitchen area on the main level is also separate from the sleep areas so early risers can get coffee started, without disturbing anyone else. The bedrooms and living room all have flat screen televisions. The kitchen was fully equipped with plenty of dishes and pots and pans and utensils and a dishwasher. The very best Cuisinart blender is available for your pina coladas and margaritas and the dining table comfortably seats six. The main level has a wonderful inside courtyard with plants and a water feature which is nice to listen to as you relax after a day on the beach, which is steps away.
Make sure you rent a kayak (single or double sit-on-tops) or a paddleboard from Jorge to paddle towards Isla Carmen and if you're there from February - April you may be lucky enough to see and hear pods of whales breaching. We were able to rent 2 single kayaks for $20.00 USD for the entire day,the least amount we've ever paid for kayak rental on any of our vacations.
The upper bedroom opens onto a great deck with an outside cooking facility, complete with a nice propane stainless BBQ where we enjoyed tuna steaks, chicken and huge shrimp we bought at the farmer's market on Sunday. The market is off the highway just past the entrance into the town of Loreto and you turn left onto Delfines road. If you go between 9-10 a.m. you are likely to see quite a bit of traffic turning on this road which is paved. There is lots of produce available, some crafts and a seafood stand where we bought huge tiger shrimp and scallops for cheap. A tub of produce one of the vendors provided was a mere 51 pesos, the equivalent of what would be about $20.00- $25.00 Canadian and filled the fridge for a week. Right across the street is a really great wine bar with a 55 pesos tapas menu and a great selection of wine and other spirits.
We spent 8 days in this wonderful condo. Just as described in the listing. We cooked breakfast & lunch in the condo, & found a number of great restaurants for dinner. Our favorite was Sabor-a short drive from the condo.
Golf on a beautiful course for $125 for the week-we took advantage of this, and played seven days in a row.
A nice side trip-drive to the Pacific-about 2 hours- and view the whales. We plan on returning next year.
My wife and I stayed at the owner's bohemia just short of ten weeks. The well-equipped, modern home is very close to the black and grey-sand beach, stretching approximately a kilometre. There are five types of homes in the Founder's Neighbourhood. This bohemia is a two-bedroom, three-level place. The bottom level is a kitchen, centre-garden, a lower bedroom, a tiny back garden, a washer-dryer room, and a half-bathroom. The bedroom has large locally or Mexican designed furniture, I believe - it is very tasteful. An ensuite bathroom includes a great tiled shower, lots of hot water and two tiled counters. It also has a large tub, but we never used it. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a good selection of pots and pans.
Our favourite area was on the second level with an accompanying table, chairs and two loungers. We spent a lot of time reading here especially when the wind blew on the beach and we needed a shelter-sunshine combination. The second bedroom with a similar first-bedroom, ensuite layout is just off the 2nd deck. Finally, a spiral metal stairway goes to the top where you can get a view of the ocean. The view was worth the climb, but the stairway seemed a little impractical (that is, to carry things up). Nonetheless, the bohemia is immaculate and well-worth a stay.
Loreto Bay has approximately 750 homes. We found a large portion of the homes were unoccupied or occupied for short periods of time. This leant a peacefulness to the area. We found our home away from home very very quiet. The neighbours were quiet, the neighbourhood was very quiet. Of course, dozens of workers keep Loreto Bay beautifully manicured. The palm trees, tropical plants, hummingbirds, and flowers enhance the atmosphere five-fold.
Many of the restaurants in Loreto are high quality and reasonably priced. Loreto's, Sabors, Pan Que...the list goes on. Cardon Restaurant, locally, serves an amazing seafood burrito. There are a number of activities from kayaking and SUP to hiking in the canyons or simply going for a drive somewhere. There are also lots of community activities.
The community, itself, is a relaxed group of people. It's quite easy to meet and talk to people in the coffee shop or on the beach. Everyone is relaxed and happy which makes for a great environment.
Finally, the owners responded quickly on issues. Our stay was long so there were a couple of issues to look after. They were cordial and respectful. (Maybe they've spent too much time in Loreto Bay).
There were two couples in our party and we enjoyed our week stay at Loreto Bay! The home was well furnished and very comfortable. The only things we could recommend improving would be the towels, both bath and beach, and lighting in the downstairs master bedroom (very dark in both the bedroom & bathroom). The downstairs master bathroom had a supply of nice towels, but the upstairs master bath had old bath towels with holes in them. We ended up sharing the good towels. Also, there were no towels for the pools or beach. We would not recommend coming to Loreto Bay at the end of September, everything in the village was closed...no restaurants or grocery store. We had to go into the town of Loreto for all supplies and restaurants. We will definitely return to Loreto, but at a different time of year. And we would rent this property again!
We stayed in this condo for two weeks and it was very comfortable. We cooked many of our own meals in the condo and we greatly appreciated that the kitchen was fully stocked. The beds were wonderful and we would rent this condo again because of how comfortable the beds were. We want to thank Dahir, the property management person, for helping us when needed. He was always available by email to help us with the TV and finding things in the condo. It was nice to have someone on site to help us.
This year was unseasonably hotter than usual so we did not get to use the decks in the condo as much as we would have liked. We look forward to returning so we can enjoy the views from the decks.
If you want to have a guide to take you snorkeling at Coronado Island, we would suggest you contact Guillermo Said Orozco Tapia. Here is his email: firstname.lastname@example.org
You can have someone take you to Coronado Island to snorkel and drop you off but Said will guide you as you snorkel to make sure you have a fantastic experience. He has a boat driver so that he can give you special attention as you snorkel.
Loreto is a wonderful and relaxing place to visit.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to share your beautiful home with us! The home was beautifully decorated. The VIEW was magnificent! We were so comfortable there. It was like home away from home. The landscape was impeccably maintained. The variety of plants were quite unique. The pools were very nice. The founder's village security staff, were friendly and professional. We took our boat to Loreto for the first time. We launched our boat at Puerto Escondido Marina. The staff was helpful and friendly. We adventured out to a few of the islands. The water was so clear. It was perfect for snorkeling. We had our family friends drive up from Loreto. What a wonderful vacation for all of us! The memories we make in Loreto are always incredible ones! If you want to stay in or adventure out, this is definitely, on our top 3 best places to vacation! THANK YOU ALL!!!!!
Until the next adventure...:)
