Our family has been vacationing in Myrtle Beach for over twenty years, we love the people and the beaches and the proximity to so many wonderful attractions.
We've been going to Myrtle Beach every summer for years. We own a rental in MB, but don't stay there in the summer because it's not close to the beach. My husband and I stayed at the condo with our 3 children, my mother-in-law, sister-in-law and young teen niece. We loved the location of the Southwind! Walking out of the building and being steps away from the beach was perfect, especially with young children. It was so nice to have the chairs at the beach for our use as part of the rental, too. We loved having the pool and did use the indoor pool one afternoon when it rained. The condo was spacious and a perfect size for us. It was great to be on the 3rd floor so we could use the stairs instead of waiting for the elevator. We were a little disappointed by the fact that the owner clearly brings their dog-there was dog hair all over the carpet-it clung to our socks and the kids had it all over them as well as their toys as they played on the floor. There was also a bag of dog food in the laundry area, so we know it was the owners' dog and not a renter's. The AC did not work that well. We followed the STRICT instructions not to leave the doors open but most of the time the AC couldn't cool the condo below 74 degrees. I made the owner aware of the fact that an ottoman was broken upon arrival and the garbage disposal wasn't working. We were hesitant to rent from Rick because other reviewers said they had trouble getting their deposit back in a timely manner. One renter mention he tried to blame them for the broken microwave...which is still broken. We treated the place like we treat our home-we don't let our kids run around or jump on the furniture EVER. We were especially cautious because we didn't want to give Rick any reason to hold our deposit. The contract clearly states that the deposit will be returned within a week of your stay. I had to contact Rick 3 times before he returned my text stating a table in the living room was broken and laying on the ground. After I called him he tried to say maybe my kids did it without telling me...um, no. There was never a time when the kids were alone in the living room with 4 adults there! He did return the hefty deposit 2 weeks later. For the price we paid, we expected a few things to be nicer. The master shower had a moldy shower chair in it, a broken ottoman, dog hair all over, broken garbage disposal, lame AC, carpet in need of replacement. For the price we paid, we expected things to be a little nicer.
My family and I have been coming to SouthWind for years and have come to love the location, the family friendly environment, and the beautiful condos. We decided to upgrade to this 5 BR since we have another little one and it was wonderful! The condo was spacious and nicely decorated and the owner seemed reasonable enough to deal with. With the exception of a few minor issues (doors wouldn't open, doors wouldn't lock, toilet was broken, etc.), we really had a wonderful time. We fully planned to book again next year for our entire two week vacation. However, when we arrived home, I got a very short, rude email accusing us of breaking the microwave. I told the owner that we didn't use the microwave so I wasn't sure how we could have broken it. He stated that it looked like someone "fell into it". The microwave is eye level for a tall adult so I'm not sure who could possibly fall into the microwave, but it was clearly an effort to keep our deposit money. After weeks and weeks of asking for our money back, we finally told the owner that we were going to contact a lawyer. He sent our full deposit back over a month after our return (contract said it would be returned the following week).
The bottom line is this - we had a fabulous time with our family, but it was definitely sad to come home and deal with all of deposit issues. The owner ended up being rude and accusatory and chose to hold our deposit "hostage" until he saw fit to send it back. Not sure what the point was in all of that, but that is not something we want to deal with again. If you are willing to deal with the hassle of it all - it's a nice place to stay. I just wouldn't feel good about myself if I didn't give other renters fair warning.
P.S. We actually saw that another renter "warned" people of a similar thing happening and sadly, we didn't listen.
The condo is fine. Be prepared to clean for hours at the end of your vacation however. The owners are were very demanding and insisted we did damage that we simply did not do. The owners were upset that the "blankets" were used. This was just an easy way to keep our deposit (the blame game). There are many nice places to stay in Myrtle Beach, pick a place with reasonable owners.
Our family stayed at this beautiful condo for a week in July. It was so much more than what we expected; the pictures just don’t do it justice. It was so tastefully decorated to every little detail. Very spacious, we never once felt crowded; all 12 of us! The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you could ask for. The bedrooms were large and the beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed being on the 3rd floor, quick to the pool and parking lot and especially hearing the waves on the beach. The location is just perfect, central Myrtle Beach between Broadway and Barefoot. I would highly recommend this condo to anyone. The owners were very helpful and great to work with, quick to respond to emails and questions. We will definitely stay here again on any future trips to Myrtle Beach.
Just got back from our one-week stay in Myrtle Beach and wanted to say how much we loved the SouthWind. Location was perfect and the condo was beautiful. Would definitely stay here again. :)
i was very nervous at first because of never renting from a owner directly but he was wonderful
to deal with. he was great on all responses by email or phone. this condo has been
the best in the last five years we have been down here with all the family which gathers
together for the year to have fun from adults down to the grandkids. It is everything that is shown
and more. the parking area is also very nice. much better then
alot other places. this is one you truely wont regret staying at.
