I enjoy this area of Mexico. The weather is perfect, it is quiet (most of the time, it is Mexico!)
My 2 teenaged kids and dog love it too!
I love to walk the beach, swim in the warm ocean and enjoy the many little restaurants on the beach or in town.
Annie VerSteeg purchased this house in 2004
I chose Lo de Marcos because it is easy to get to from Puerto Vallarta airport but far away from all the crowds! It is such a nice little town with lovely local people and enough Snow Birds to make some nice friends.
I never get sick of the views, The light on the mountains changes all day long, it is never the same, never boring. The birds are plentiful and very entertaining.
I love the short walk to the beach and the short walk to town.
Some nights there are fiesta in the town square and they are always entertaining.
My family of 5 (two adults, 3 young children) stayed here for one month during the winter and loved it like it was our own home. We all felt very comfortable there, and had ample room- this house is big! 3 additional family joined us and there was still room for more- very spacious layout to easily accommodate lots of people.
The roof top terrace (palapa) offers a sight you will never forget; views of jungle terrain, mountains and ocean all around. View of the entire town as well, as the house is situated high on a hill. At night the ceiling is lit by star shaped lanterns that cast speckles of soft light across the grass roof. So beautiful, so memorable.
We stayed without a car and got around very easily on foot, even with the kids.
Less than 5 minutes to walk to the beach!
Would be a great town to have bicycles in, which might be available to rent... sometimes!
Kitchen was very well equipped, easy to work in, stools for the kids to sit at, big gas range to cook on. Everything we needed we found.
Super fast internet!! I was quite surprised, considering I've had much slower connections in much more populated cities.
House was very clean when we arrived, and very easy to keep clean. If anything needed fixing, the property manager had it fixed right away.
Annie was always available to talk to via phone or email if we needed anything, as well the property manager lives close by and knows absolutely everything and anything about Lo De Marcos.
I don't want to say too much about Lo De Marcos because it is a secret gem best left to be discovered when you arrive... I will just say how incredibly safe we felt in this town. We weren't even locking the door at night- and only because we didn't even think of it- that's how safe we felt. (perhaps too safe, considering we lock our doors at home?)
The whole vibe to Lo De Marcos is very peaceful. Lots of families, old and young; it is quiet and calm here.
As an example of true Lo De Marcos style, when the water jugs are empty, they go to the bottom of the stairs outside the house, with an envelope of money for the refills. Sometimes the empty bottles, and money, sat at the end of the driveway for 2 days, until the water truck came by to pick up/drop off. The amazing reality is that no one touches the money!
It's just that sort of a place, which I think says a lot.
Beautiful friendly people, the beach speaks for itself, the food was ALL incredible.
What a special place. We are currently planning our return trip
We had a wonderful experience in Lo de Marco. The house has a lovely view over palms and mountains and the decks are large and well covered. We travelled with our 4 and 7 year old children and they loved the beach in town, a short 5-10 minute stroll around the corner. The house has sand toys and beach umbrella etc, which was a great plus. The people in town are very friendly, the house seemed very secure and we had a very relaxing time. Annie is available by cell phone and text and the local caretaker is very friendly and helpful, speaks fluent English and is available by phone any minute (but does not come by unless needed, which we appreciated). Thank you for a lovely vacation. We are very happy we decided to stay in Annie's place in this lovely town.
We stayed here for the month of January 2013 and loved it. The house is huge and the rooftop deck amazing! Pics and description are accurate. Don't let the stairs scare you off unless you have mobility issues. Very short walk to the beach and into town. We used taxis and buses to travel out of town, very easy to navigate. Annie and Ara are both wonderful to deal with. Ara & Mario are only a phone call away or 30 seconds up the road(and thank you both very much) and both are very helpful with any questions we had.
Lo de Marcos is very quaint and has everything you need for groceries, restaurants, alcohol, and necessaties. Eating out is excellent, Hamburgers & Pizza shop that serves the best pork & pineapple tacos ever! Luna Pizza that has incredible pasta meals. The beach restaurants that will serve you lunch and cerveza on the beach.
Look for the blue boat coming in and if you are lucky you will get fresh camarones. Not to be missed they fit across the palm of my hand!
We had 2 young adults and our 3.5 yr grandaughter stay for 10 days as well. Very safe for a family.Wonderful people, wonderful town, we will be back.
My family and I spent three months here. Annie, the owner, is awesome and easy to deal with. The house is comfortable, has amazing views, has everything you need and is in a safe area. We have since moved on elsewhere in Mexico and are already missing Lo De Marcos, the friends we made there and the comfort of this home. The kids saw iguanas daily, the bird watching is wonderful and the house has binoculars with a field guide book for birds. Be wary of property manager and deal with Annie as much as possible.
The four months I lived in this home was my dream vacation and I didn't want to leave. From the early morning sunrises with my coffee on the deck off the kitchen, to the evening walk on the beach watching the whales romp in the ocean while the sun was setting, my dogs and I lavished our time spent in this lovely community. This home comes completely equipped including maid service for hire if you want. It was immaculate when we arrived. UThe washer and dryer, stove and fridge were all of standard size, relatively new and in great working order, but we used the outside clothesline so we could experience the fresh air smells. We cooked most meals there, entertaining friends and relatives with ease. I would suggest a few more pots for cooking thou. There is a wonderful bakery in town for fresh buns and sweets, and you can purchase most anything, fresh every morning from the fish man for your evening supper. A charcoal grill would have been a nice touch and in all honesty was the only thing missing! I recieved the best exercise and toning from the 42steps into the home, but if one had a vehicle, there is ample parking at the top of the hill, right outside the back door.
I spent six weeks alone in the beginning and never felt threatened or uncomfortable. This home was very secure! Mario and Ara, the caretakers, live a hop, step and jump from this property and you get to yell at them as they walk down the hill to go to work most mornings!
The dogs and I, as well as my old and new friends, loved the mountain hikes and grabbed every opportunity we could to visit the surrounding local town markets and ride the compostello's. Ara was a life saver, introducing me to the local merchants and taking me with her on some of her out of town excursions. She had everything we needed upon our arrival, meeting us at the airport, and providing me with vet and dog grooming transportation, to help make our stay a comfortable one. There are capable doctors in the area and a brand new hospital in La Penita, 23 klm away, "just in case"!
I could talk forever about this experience, but take the time out and make your own memories and stay in this casa. I guarantee you will have no regrets. I would go back in a heartbeat and most definitely recommend this casa to all I know!
What a great vacation! The new house is cool and airy with beautiful Mexican craft tiling and detail and the dramatic view of the Sierra Madras and glimpses of the ocean make it hard to leave home. A beautiful sand beach is just a short walk down the lane and the sleepy town centre of Los de Marcos is just a ten minute walk away . Here we ate at several nice little restaurants and found all the local fresh fruits, veggies and fish we needed to make spectacular meals to be enjoyed on the lovely west facing porch overlooking the mango trees and mountains . Shopping for Mexican arts and crafts and some lively night life were also on our agenda and we found these a 15 minute drive away at the tourist and surfing mecas of Sayalita or Los Panchos. I want to go back right away
Great boogie-boarding just down the street. The water access is EASY and kid friendly. The point has a sweet little left that goes off pretty frequently. For the die-hard surfers, there is surf all around, you will want a car.
The bird watching from the open dining area is VERY entertaining!
The ocean breeze felt while relaxing in the hammocks on the upper deck is relaxing and refreshing after a hard day at the beach or a shopping excursion to the 'TIANGES' market in La Penita each and every Thursday.
