We spent 4 nights here. Excellent location. Ping Pong table kept the kids busy when it rained. We didn't have a car and didn't need one, as everything was within walking distance. Sorry we didn't have time to do the barefoot trail. It was high on our list. Loved the article about the dangers of hiking on Karwendel - "95% of all falls are deadly." I appreciated that local business owners were patient with my poor german.
The owner was friendly and never came around to check on us. Wish there had been a guest book, as often guests leave recommendations for dinner, hikes, etc. Would have also appreciated a list of where the grocery stores and drug store were. Found Edeka and Mueller after being in town for a couple days. Edeka was much nicer than the close market.
My only negative comment would be that the rent seemed a bit high, as the town had many many vacant vacation homes. If I had known that, I would have tried to bargain a bit.
I look forward to a return to Mittenwald, next time for a much longer stay.
