Overview

Cavriglia Barn Rental Photos and Description

Double Bedroom, Living room, Kitchen, Bathroom, Private terrace. Sleeps 2.

Records show the BOGGIOLI farmhouse has been continually lived in by farming families for the past 800 years. Today we have a thousand olive trees and produce award-winning organic extra virgin olive oil.

(See SLOWFOOD Guide to Olive Oil and Marco Oreggia's prestigious Guide to the World's Best Extra Virgin Olive Oils.)

We are always happy to offer a Tasting to our guests.

The farmhouse and barn are in a panoramic position, surrounded by olive trees, chestnut, oak and accacia woods, which you drive through on our well-maintained mile-long access road. This could at first appear challenging to some.

The Barn has a private outdoor terrace, under a pergola, a well-equipped kitchen and a living/dining room, all on the ground floor.

Half way up the stairs to the bedroom is the bathroom, which has a WC, bidet, basin, spacious shower stall and a window with view over the gardens.

The bedroom, on the top floor, has the best views, from 3 windows. It has an armchair, desk, ample cupboard space, good reading lights and a solid Queen sized bed with a firm mattress.

From our pool, 15.5 x 5 metres, away from the house and in a secluded position, there are rural views over the Chianti hills, and of course comfortable reclining chairs.

The Barn has many books, on cooking, Tuscany, Italian History, Italian Art, Fauna and Flora plus Guidebooks and maps.

The local village of Montegonzi, dates back to the 13 th century and has an excellent country trattoria, ( wild boar pasta is one of their specialities) and a local grocery store which also serves coffee and Aperitives .

Easy one-hour drive to the Art Cities of Siena, Arezzo or Florence. Easy access to the main highway and local train station (Montevarchi), to the fashion outlet of Prada or to the fashion Mall at Incisa. Only 20 minutes to Gaiole in Chianti and to the vineyards and hilltowns of the Chianti region.

Closest airport : Florence, 50 minutes away.

Pisa airport : 2 hours away.

Rome airport, 3.5 hours away.

Closest village : Montegonzi, with trattoria and store/caffe.

Nearest railway station and Autostrada exit : Montevarchi.

Keywords: Tranquil, rural, independent, with fabulous views and close to four good country restaurants.

About Helen Richmond

Since I retired from a U.N. organization in Rome, I have become a full time olive farmer and my wife and I have concentrated on producing high-quality extra virgin olive oil.

Helen Richmond purchased this barn in 1975

Why Helen Richmond chose Cavriglia

We chose to live in this beautiful part of Tuscany, permanently, after retiring from our jobs in Rome.

As a Stanford student studying in Florence, years ago, I got to know this area well and after graduation decided to make Italy my home.

What makes this barn unique

We enjoy the local festas, the Chianti Classico wine festas and the many concerts of classical music which take place throughout Tuscany in the summer months.

Each village in Tuscany seems to have something of amazing historical or artistic interest , one is always rewarded for the search.

Guestbook comments from the owner

" What a wonderful Tuscan holiday. The Barn was perfect in every way. Furnished in traditional Tuscan style, so comfortable, and set amongst the glorious surrounds of olive trees and Tuscan hills. Meals on the patio and daily trips to those special places suggested by our knowledgeable and charming hosts added to this memorable experience. We are telling our friends that the Barn is the place to be, and we are already planning our return. "

Perfect rural peace !

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at the farmhouse in just under an hour from Florence airport and were immediately charmed by the house, the surroundings, the welcoming owners and their friendly dogs.

We spent a fantastic week driving around the Chianti hills - perfect autumn days. (Not quite hot enough for the pool!) We found good local restaurants but the kitchen was so well equipped we often ate outdoors under the pergola on our private terrace.

We were completely ignorant about olive oil, but the owner very kindly gave us an olive oil tasting. (His oil has won international prizes.)

We loved it ! We will be back in pool season!

Wonderful Tuscan retreat in the Chianti Region

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I celebrated our 35th wedding annivsary with a trip to Italy for 2 weeks - the first week we city hopped from the Amalfi Coast, Rome, and Florence and the second week was in this lovely house. It was the quiet and peacefullness we needed after the previous week!

Keith and Helen were excellent hosts, answering questions, offering suggestions, and being available as needed. They made reservations for us and provided an olive oil tasting of their wonderful oil. When we arrived herbs were in the window, water in the fridge, and a bottle of Prosceco awaiting us in honor of our anniversary.

The directions to the house were easy to follow. It IS a good ways out but that added to the charm for us. Two restaurants are within 10 minutes drive but they are not open every night. WIFI access is available but the WIFI proved to be spotty at times - but hey, we were in Tuscany, who needs WIFI all the time.

Everything was as presented in the listing. We planned on using the beautiful pool however the weather didn't cooperate. Alba and Amy (the 2 dogs) were great greeters when we arrived back at the house each day.

We would recommend this property to friends and family.

Beautiful hideaway

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the barn in spite of the worst weather ever! Keith and Helen are courteous hosts who have paid attention to every detail in the house, pool area and garden. The dogs are an added bonus. What a shame we didn't have more sunshine. That would have created perfection!

6 stars!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was amazing - the property has a standalone cottage that is beautiful and very private. Incredible views. Great kitchen to prepare meals. It also has a lovely private patio and the wisteria were in full bloom and lovely potted flowers and herbs all around. On arrival we found the kitchen stocked to our order and a lovely vase of herbs cut and ready for cooking. Truly special.

We spent most days exploring back roads, villages, and vineyards. Catching the train to Florence for a day trip which is very easy and the station is convenient to the property.

We came back with as much olive oil as we could carry after a very informative olive oil tasting by our host. Delicious!

The roads around can be a challenge as they are one lane in places and quite bumpy. But we did get used to them and felt the trade off with privacy and a beautiful location was well worth a few bumps in the road!

Radda in Chianti was a daily stop for us and our hosts clued us in on the best gelato and pastries we had all trip at the corner 'bar'. Also, they arranged a cooking lesson nearby in Montegrossi which was a lot of fun and in a spectacular setting.

Thank you Helen and Keith for a lovely stay. We hope to visit again soon!

Excellent accommodation in an olive grove setting in the Chianti hills

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay at Boggioli and we hope to return again one day. We love the accommodation and its location with its ease of access to cities such as Siena, Florence and Arezzo and the beautiful towns in the Chianti hills. Our hosts, Helen and Keith Richmond, are charming and very knowledgeable about Italy and all it has to offer for the visitor. The five nights we spent this time at Boggioli could not have been more enjoyable.

Tuscany at its best

  • 5 of 5

Not all of Tuscany is necessarily spectacularly beautiful. This is. The property overlooks two wooded valleys and is itself secluded but there is plenty of sun and shade for when you need it. The accommodation is a wonderfully executed barn restoration and conversion into what amounts to be a delightful freestanding house but outside it retains the charm of what it was. The interior is superbly designed and built and is surprisingly spacious. It is, in all our years of renting self contained accommodation, the best fitted out kitchen we have ever encountered. There is everything you need to make use of the local produce and cook up a true Italian feast! The interior design is extremely tasteful and, again, wants for nothing. The outside contains a vine covered pergola which is perfect for eating as you sit and look across the valleys. For once, the pool is of proper size and also overlooks the valley. The owners are non intrusive but always there to assist in giving advice as to local eateries and Tuscany in general. We just loved it!
