Perfect place for you to get all the family together or host a retreat! Our cottage is smoke-free and you will not find a cleaner, more welcoming cottage in the area. (we do not rent to smokers) The Guise Guest Cottage is located less than 500 ft. from Big Turkey Lake, just down the sandy lane. At the end of the lane on the left is the beach and on the right is the boat dock. A paddle boat and a row boat with oars are included and there are two adult-sized life jackets provided (May-Oct). There is dock space available to dock one boat at no additional cost. Launch ramp is near the beach. The dock is put in the water in May and is taken out the last of October. Fishing from the dock is usually very good and bait can be purchased across the lake at the Sandwich Shop. The kids will have a great time digging in the sand, making sand castles and swimming at the beach. Adults are responsible for their children as there is no lifeguard. The cottage property backs up against a wooded area/field. There is great hill for the kids to run up and down and a 2 person swing at the top of the hill for Mom and Dad. Enjoy the evenings with a campfire and wood is provided. There is a deck with a table/umbrella with 6 chairs for the warmer weather. A charcoal grill is available year round. (please bring your own charcoal) Coming summer 2015: in the backyard an additional hangout area! A covered deck with a swing. Inside the cottage is a spacious kitchen which has a large eating area with 2 tables and a rolling island that can be moved to accommodate large gatherings. There is a new mini Keurig coffeemaker in addition to the Mr Coffee coffeemaker. There are 3 couches (can be used for sleeping) and chair in the living area. The 'Aloha' bedroom has a queen bed, a set of bunkbeds and a bathroom with a shower. The 'Bear 2' bedroom has a queen bed and the 'Blessings' bedroom has 2 twin beds which can be converted into a king bed. Please let us know in advance if you would like the king bed. The main bathroom has a tub/shower. You provide your own bath towels and beach towels. Dish towels and dishclothes are provided. 'Starter' paper towel, napkins, tissue, toilet paper and trash bags are provided but you will need to bring more for the rest of your stay. Bed linens are provided. There is a washer/dryer available for use. Bring own detergent. Additionally, there are some books for all ages on the shelves, wireless broadband internet, satellite TV/DVD/VCR player in the living room and some games.
Oh, and don't forget to sign the boat paddle before you leave!
Some fun places to go:
Shipshewanna, about 23 minutes away, the heart of the Amish community. Lots of great shops, great homemade food, indoor waterpark, and an auction/flea market every Tues/Wed.(April-Oct). Kukui Shave Ice is great and has a gum ball in each dish. The Eash Bulk Grocery store has some great bargains and the deli is really good and priced reasonably. They only take cash or check at the grocery. And if you want to hold and love on some puppies go next door to E&S Sales. We got our sweet Malitpoo puppy there.
Angola, about 25 minutes away, has an outlet mall, restaurants, movie theater and Pokagon State Park with hiking, toboggan run and cross country snow skiing.There is a Walmart, Menards, Kohls, Meijer and CVS in Angola.
Auburn, about 25 minutes away also, has a great movie theater, Cracker Barrell, fast food places, Home Depot and a Walmart just off of I-69.
Stroh, just across the lake, has a great pizza place called Pizza and More. They take cash or checks but no credit cards. The gas station in Stroh has some groceries and will take a credit card if your order is over $10. There are 2 other family/pub restaurants in Stroh. Stroh also has several places to worship on Sunday.
