Photos and Description of the Petaluma vacation house rental
Bed & Breakfast Inn, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Cherry Hill Bed & Breakfast Inn, situated on top of Cherry Hill in Petaluma's Old Town, is a large 1897 Victorian Boutique Bed & Breakfast Inn in the heart of the Northern California Wine Country, 30 minutes from the Napa Valley and Sonoma Wine Country, the beaches of Dillon, Bodega, Bolinas, Inverness, and Tomales, and spectacular West Marin. We are Terrapin Crossroads and Sweetwater Music Hall friendly.

Choose from our large, 1 bedroom Parlour Suite with a private bath with shower only, private entrance, queen Brass bed, Egyptian cotton sheets and down comforter, 40' HDTV w/HBO, sitting area with current magazines, games, books, and fine art, the one bedroom Butler’s Suite with a queen bed, Egyptian cotton sheets, down comforter, private clawfoot tub and shower, small sitting room and 40' HDTV w/HBO, or the Lunchbox Room with a king poster bed, private bath with clawfoot tub and shower, 40' HDTV w/HBO, private entrance and a connecting bathroom to the Parlour Suite with Wi-Fi throughout. Since the Parlour Suite and Lunchbox room also have a connecting bathroom, you can book them together as a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite.

Each room has a private bathroom, is romantically cozy and quiet, decorated with Victorian antiques, antique beds with modern mattresses, and, of course, Kathy Mason Lerner's internationally renown Pleine-Air oil paintings. They are each available separately, and include use of the turn of the century sitting room with Victorian couches to relax and read, sliding doors adjoining our comfortable drawing room, overlooking the Organic gardens.

We strive to be green conscious, organic, and use only the finest locally Marin manufactured Organic EO shower and bath products, and Mrs. Meyers cleaning products.

Because the weather is mild, being so close to the Pacific Ocean and beaches, our organic gardens are a place to relax, sunbathe, and spend romantic evenings watching the sunset around the fire pit.

We are close to downtown, and there is much to do locally, with great restaurants and pubs, bakeries, antique and sweet shops, movies, live music and theater, and beautiful river walks, while Helen Putnam Park is a 6 minute ride, or the 10 minute ride to the new, $150M, world class Green Music Center at Sonoma State University

Take the 25 minute drive down Highway 101 to the Larkspur Ferry Terminal in Marin County, then a spectacular 30 minute ride on San Francisco Bay to the SF Ferry Building where you can experience great artisan food and restaurants at the Ferry Building, ride the cable car up Nob Hill and down to Union Square, wander through Chinatown and North Beach and return via the ferry across the Bay, to the beauty and serenity of Petaluma without ever having to experience driving in the traffic of San Francisco.

About Michael Lerner

Kathy Mason Lerner is an internationally reknown Pleine-Air oil painter and colorist, whose paintings have been shown in museums and galleries across the US, including The National Academy of Art in New York City, the De Young Museum, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. She has been painting for almost 40 years and has taught painting and color workshops in Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico among other places.

Prior to painting. Kathy was a jeweler to the Rock n' Rollers of the '60s, including Janis Joplin, Pigpen and Spencer Dryden, drummer for the Jefferson Airplane, and sound engineer for Big Daddy Tom Donahue, the creator of KSAN rock radio, when he started the first of it's kind station.

Ushi, her 3rd Akita, keeps her company while she spends time in her gardens growing all sorts of organic fruits and vegetables. Kathy is a collector and grower of rare bamboos for 30+ years, and enjoys painting in her gardens after sculpting her land. She has collected fine art, and antique furniture, with her husband of 40+ years, Michael, whose Dad was a Rembrandt scholar and art collector in New York City where he grew up, dragging Michael to the Metropolitan Museum, MOMA, the Morgan Library, the Frick, and the Barnes Collection in Philadelphia, along with the Louvre, the Jeu de Paume, the British Museum and the Tate, among others. A modest collection of the German Expressionists is strewn around Cherry Hill, along with many of Kathy's paintings, large and small. Kathy also has 3 galleries in the Napa Valley, so she is well represented locally.

Michael Lerner purchased this house in 2008
Why Michael Lerner chose Petaluma

We bought Cherry Hill because our oldest daughter, Jude Mooney, a wedding, portrait, and fine art, photographer, and our grand daughter Dixie Rose, who is now 13, live nearby, and we wanted to be close to Dixie Rose before she flew the coop. Sonoma County where we are situated, is a panorama of California history, since it's founding in 1850, replete with many historical architectural buildings, close to the Pacific Ocean, the greatest wine country outside France, the home of the Slow Food movement with the French Laundry, and innumerable 4 Star restaurants, organic farms, artisan dairies, and Vineyards everywhere.

What makes this house unique

Cherry Hilll is a spacious Boutique Victorian Bed & Breakfast Inn, private and quiet, so there is no traffic noise, with spectacular mountain views of the Sonoma Ridge. The high ceilings and period antiques allow for a uniquely relaxing experience, yet still close to as much action as one may desire.

Hummingbird Hall is a graceful Victorian in an historic district and within an easy walk of downtown Petaluma, a city full of charming shops and restaurants. I had long conversations with Innkeeper Michael before I even arrived, and already knew I was going to like him - I liked him even more after I got to know him! His wife Kathy is wonderful, an extraordinary artist, and their dog Ushi, a huge and gentle Akita, is a constant presence. The pastries served at breakfast came from a local bakery and they were delicious. The rooms are spacious, beds VERY comfortable, and my wife and daughter loved their stay as did I. Michael and Kathy went that 'extra mile' to make sure our stay was memorable, and it was - we shall return!

my husband and i recently visiting the area to make a surprise visit to our son. our stay at cherry hill b&b was most charming and convenient, not only to our son's apartment but to many attractions and beauty of the area. our host, mchael, was most gracious and accomodating to us. our initial arrival time was late (due to late plane arrival in oakland) and michael was most accomodating. we would definitely return to this b&b and would again, enjoy the charm and history of cherry hill!!!

Staying at Cherry Hill B&B is my idea of a perfect place. Long naps, clean, comfy and charming rooms as well as the helpful and enjoyable company of hosts Kathy and Michael. Not to mention Kathy's gorgeous paintings reflecting the light streaming through huge windows. I have been here twice and can't wait to visit again. A short walk from town takes you down leafy streets, past lovely old homes. Cherry Hill is the ideal base for relaxing and exploring this historic part of California.

We recently stayed at The Cherry Hill B&B for 2 nights. The place is super quite, yet within walking distance to the old Petaluma downtown. We enjoyed our very nice room & attached bathroom, the very friendly and helpful owners Michael and Kathy (& Ushi, their gorgeous Akita), and the wonderful daily breakfasts. The rooms and the gardens are very relaxing and beautiful. Katy and Michael made us feel like we were old friends, and made sure we enjoyed the Petaluma area and our stay at their great place. Ushi is the crème de la crème. I don't know what else to say except that we'll be back!

Michael and Kathy were wonderful host. The B&B is quiet and comfortable, antiques abound. Great value, clean rooms. Michael was quite helpful with directions around the surrounding countryside. Point Reyes was a California dream winding through the ocean shore. I dig your art Kathy. My wife and I made instant friends. Cynthia says thank you for making our stay comfortable and Happy Birthday Michael. Pet Ushi for us.
Thanks for being the attics of my life. Bob & Cynthia
Look forward to next time.
