My husband and I share the same passion for traveling. We have traveled to many countries and have seen many beautiful places. Day to day demands of my husbands busy and successful business and my full time job pushed us to look for the oasis and a hideaway place where we would be able to unwind and relax. Now that I have retired I can enjoy our oasis at different times of the year, each and everyone of them is very uniqe.
Margaret Walesiak purchased this bungalow in 2002
When in 2002 we took our first trip to Nicaragua we fell in love with this country and it's people. Within a week we bought this property and a year later we decided to build our oasis/beach house. Our property is located the most beautiful beach cove along the Pacific Coast of Nicaragua. Ever since we finished building, our family and friends have enjoyed coming here. You can forget about your daily life and get completely lost in the beauty of nature. Why don't you try it and experience it on your own.
With an ocean and pristine beach just 100 meters away from our house we enjoy morning / evening walks on the beach and many swims throughout the day. We love morning coffees while sitting in our outside living-room, listening to the ocean and watching the waves. In the evenings, if we feel like it, we take a short drive to San Juan del Sur (7 minutes) where we can have a meal at the friendly restaurant or an evening stroll along the Malacon Blvd. San Juan del Sur is where we buy all the groceries, fresh fruits and vegetables at the local market and also fresh fish and see food at the new fish market located by the port. We enjoy this life and we hope that you will enjoy it too.
Me and a friend stayed at Margaret's house for 10 days in March.
First of all, it's a really nice and clean house! Everything we needed was there, and then some more. The open kitchen is amazing and so is the outdoor living room. The rooms are big and the beds comfortable. With the fans and the AC it's not too warm at night. So, as far as the house is concerned, everything was perfect.
Then there's the location!!! The beach is close, really close... Like 20 seconds walk close... It's not a big beach at all. It's quite small and there's not much to do. Only 2 little restaurants/bars and a surf rental place. But, that is exactly what we were looking for so it was perfect for us. Not a lot a people during the week days (mostly other tourists coming from San Juan for the day to learn how to surf... They are usually gone by 5pm and then the beach gets really quiet for the night). We noticed that there was a lot more people during the weekends but maybe it was just a coincidence (and by a lot more people I mean 25 people max)! The water is perfect if you want to learn how to surf... The waves are not to big but not small either. We've met some really nice local kids who were more than happy to give us some tips!
And as for the owners and the housekeepers they were all REALLY nice and accommodating. We got to see Margaret pretty much everyday. She answered all of our questions and was really helpful. I made a mistake when I first made the reservation and she was really accommodating and nice about it. As for Francisco and Flor, they are really nice as well. They helped us make local calls and they were there every time we needed something.
The only downside is that the house is a bit far from the city (15 minutes cab ride, about $15 one way). But as I said earlier we were there to enjoy a quiet and warm beach, so we didn't really go to San Juan that often. If you want to visit the area and go out to San Juan often, I definitely suggest renting a car.
If you are worried about the weather you can stop right now. It was sunny and +35 everyday. A bit windy at times but it's a good thing because if not it would be almost too warm (if there's such a thing!).
Thanks for a great vacation!!!
When we first decided to holiday in Nicaragua, we wanted to have a warm relaxing holiday. We never expected it to be so warm. At first it was hard to get used to, but in a week or so it was great to just relax and enjoy the endless hot days. Flor and Francisco were really great, even though there was a huge language barrier it was fun to communicate through sign language and laughter. The house that Margaret and Eric rented us was perfect for the area and they treated us really good, and it was fun to watch Eric blast away some fireworks over the ocean after a few drinks.
We all had a great time, and would certainly recommend it to anyone, with one bit of advice, it is a quite a hike into town, so without a vehicle it is difficult to just go to town for dinner or whatever, although Francisco's buddy the cab driver was easy to get and was a lot of fun.
Thanks Margaret Eric, Flor & Francisco
This is our third time in Casa Mar y Sol, we just got back after three weeks.
Every time it is worth to fly for 17 hours from Europe just to stay at this beautiful and charming płace. Every time we go there it gest better and better. You can not find such a peaceful and almost empty beach in Europe, especially in the mornings when you can be completly alone. Evenings and sunsets are to die for, amazing views. This beach is never crowded.
Flor and Francisco are, as usual, very helpful and by now we have created a good friendship with them. The owner of Casa Mar y Sol has been more than accomodating to us every time we deal with her. Thank You very much Margaret for this jewel you have created.
If You are looking for a perfect getaway place this is where You need to go.
-House was perfect for two couples.
-Loved the kitchen and open living/dining room design.
-On-site property managers were pleasant and attentive.
-We regularly purchased cokes-in-bottles from Flor.
-Very short walk to a nice beach that we enjoyed.
-Beautiful sunsets from the bar/restaurants steps from the house.
-Very short drive to SJDS and grocery store.
-Fun day trip to Playa Coco (45 minute drive on very rough road)
(Keep in mind that you are visiting Nicaragua, not Hawaii, so certain aspects (e.g. the smell of burning trash) are unavoidable.)
-Air conditioning unit was in one bedroom, the other bedroom got pretty hot even though we turned the A/C unit on around 4PM and left both bedroom doors open.
-Barbed-wire fence gate leading to property was a bit of hassle to open and close, and slightly dangerous. But you see this kind of gate/fence all over Nicaragua.
-Also, the directions for getting to the house were a little unclear once we got to the driveway, since the "gate" just looks like a normal fence.
-They're building a house next door so construction noise was very audible.
-Two mice in the kitchen, one found in a cupboard (dead) and one seen running around (alive).
All of these "CONS" didn't really detract from the wonderful time we had a Mar y Sol, but I thought they deserved mentioning.
I will also say that I was a bit nervous about crime in the area after reading different reports online, however we didn't have a single problem during our week-long stay at Mar y Sol.
Hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did!
We just returned from 3 weeks at Mar Y Sol & absolutely loved it! The house is great with unique indoor/outdoor living spaces. It has all the necessities you need. Flo & Francesco are the sweetest people, we had fun trying to communicate with them, since they speak no English! Lots of laughs between us :) The beach is right there, it's quiet, beautiful & great for swimming & surfing. The taco shack to the right has the best fish tacos we've ever had!! Nice family run bussness, the owner speaks great English. We actually ended up eating there everyday because the good was so darn good! Oh & the margaritas are to die for, a must try! A vehicle is a must! We rented a truck & felt completely safe driving back & forth from town, as well driving to Granada & many surrounding beaches. This was our 1st trip to Nicaragua & we will definitely be returning! We loved our stay & wouldn't change a thing.
Thanks Margaret for sharing your home!
This was our third trip to Beach House Mar y Sol at Playa Remanso. The space holds a very special place in our hearts.
Beautiful patio with the best open air kitchen around. Such a wonderful place to spend time. We love how close we are to the Surf and Sun... The beach is just a short walk down the road where you'll find the Best Fish Tacos you've ever tasted. I highly recommend Yesne's confections with a Tona in hand as the sun sets over Playa Remanso. Ahhhh... Just thinking about it brings me back. :)
Tepe, the neighborhood dog, is one of the most amazing souls I've ever interacted with. And Blanca, the little white beach dog is so loving and kind. Befriend them and you will always have a faithful companion by your side to protect you and make you smile.
Beware of the Monkey, Pancha... she can be very sweet but has dramatic mood swings in her older age.
Don't forget to stock up on groceries and libations, and rent your surfboard in town before you make the 20 minute drive to Remanso... You won't want to leave for days once you get there :)
Relax and Enjoy,
Molly & Mike Lucido
Situated only 100 meters from the beach, this perfect location will allow you to have your morning cup of coffee on the porch or take it with you to the beach to watch waves or have an evening drink watching the sunset. Level entry from the house to the beach means that surfers don't have to climb, up or down, the hills and can save their energy for the waves. This short distance to the beach is ideal for any age - from a young child to an elderly person. The ocean floor is flat and you can walk in to the water without a fear of sudden drops. Daily breeze will allow you to cool down in the evenings and at night.
The beach house is just 35 minutes away from the ferry to the famous Ometepe Island, 1 hour from the city of Masaya with the biggest souvenir market, 1 hour form Mombacho Volcano with great zip lining and 1 hour from a historical city of Granada.
