Jim Reed purchased this studio in 2006
French Place neighborhood is a quiet neighborhood with large beautiful pecan and oak trees, tucked away just northeast of University of Texas Campus, We are only a few miles from downtown. So you can enjoy the vibrant energy of the city, but have a restful place to return to (late) in the evening.
This is a stand alone building, no shared walls. And it is at the back of the property, away from street noise. The studio has a full kitchen, full bath, and washer/dryer. The private backyard is beautifully landscaped and shaded by a large pecan tree.
My fiancé, my dog and I were llucky enough to stay with Jim and Heather during a lapse in residence between my lease running out and closing on my new home in Austin.
Jim and heather are really friendly and helpful...absolutely great hosts. I really enjoyed getting to know them in the month I stayed there.
The property itself was very nice and well appointed. We only brought clothes and toiletries. Everything else we needed was already furnished, which was extremely helpful considering all of my belongings were in storage.
If you want a great place to stay in a nice part of Austin, I highly recommend this property. Be it a weekend stay, or a long term need, Jim and heathers back house is a great option.
Jim and Heather we're incredibly gracious during our stay. They provided a wealth of local knowledge from restaurants to home renovation vendors. We truly enjoyed staying with them and wholeheartedly recommend them!!
We booked Jim & Heather's studio while waiting for our own house in Austin to be built. As you can see from the photographs, the studio might not appear to be big on square footage inside, but it's a very flexible space and functions like a much larger apartment. As we were staying for several months, having a washer and dryer was a real bonus, and even in mid-summer, it was great to have the outdoor seating area to kick back and sit in the shade. The kitchen is fully equipped and arranged so you can actually use it, which is very rare in all the rentals we stayed in! This helped us save money on food bills, and made us feel more at home.
The TV and WiFi was a very welcome feature - we had some hot summer months and needed to spend our time indoors, and being connected and entertained was a huge help.
The real gem of this rental is Jim & Heather. They really seem to enjoy having new neighbors to get to know, and as we were new transplants to Austin they did everything they could to make us feel at home in our new city. Jim was incredibly helpful and addressed any queries/issues about the studio that cropped up right away and takes great pride in maintaining the property in general. We got fantastic advice of where to eat and listen to live music, and felt we were considered real neighbors during our stay. I can't recommend this rental more (they only give me five stars to use!!) - particularly for long-stay rental and if you're new to town. You'll be in great hands.
The place was as advertised, a very comfortable studio in a pleasant and convenient neighborhood in Austin. The owner was terrific - extremely helpful and friendly, and made a number of great suggestions about restaurants, music, etc. The kitchen is very well equipped too. I would definitely stay here again the next time I'm in town, and I would strongly recommend it too.
Great place. Walk to resturants. Quick on and off I35. Close to UT.
Jim was helpful and his recommendations for restaurants and music venues were spot on!
Great location and neighborhood I felt very safe in. Easy walk to Cherrywood Coffeehouse that has yummy food. live music and free yoga classes! Owner was accommodating. Cute little space perfect for one or two!
French Place is a region of Austin in Cherrywood Neighborhood Association, just northeast of University of Texas, due east from Hyde Park Neighborhood and south of the new Mueller Neighborhood development. This is a very quiet and safe neighborhood with amazing restaurants, theaters, coffee shops, and parks along our perimeter. Also, we are only a few miles from downtown, an easy bike ride or bus ride away.
Our studio is a stand alone building, no shared walls, so you have complete privacy. And since it it located in the back yard, you have complete silence from road noise as well.
