Situated above les Arcs, the medieval quarter is a labyrinth of stepped alleys surrounded by beautifully restored stone houses with spectacular views of the Côtes de Provence vineyards below. Our house is situated in the heart of the medieval quarter on a very quiet square. Its enclosed front and rear gardens provide outdoor privacy while you dine or relax in this beautiful setting.

Our home is a Mediterranean mix of old and new, lived-in and loved. The natural floors, stone and ironwork throughout, combined with the white chalk-washed walls and polished white Moroccan cement tile surfaces provide a refreshing atmosphere. The interior and exterior have been completely renovated by les-Arcs craftsmen. The ironwork in the arch-doorways and windows were designed and forged by local artisans. It’s a wonderful place to relax with friends and enjoy its natural beauty – or paint “en plein air” if you are one of those talented artists seeking to capture the golden light of the south of France. A wood burning stove in the living room and upstairs fireplace warm the place up for perfect winter getaway. We purchased this house and made this our second home while living in Europe in the 1990s. Now that we live back in San Francisco we find our visits to the house even more magical!

Les Arcs is very conveniently located, with its TGV train station just 5 minutes down the hill, (TGV station 'les Arcs-Draguignan' There are numerous connections, including daily, direct service to Paris. Les Arcs is 45 minutes from the Nice Airport (NCE) , just 10 minutes from the St.Tropez exit off the A-8 Autoroute. This central location is very convenient for touring. Day trips can easily access: Nice, Aix-en-Provence, St. Tropez, Fréjus, Grasse and Saint Paul de Vence. Even closer, shorter trips to nearby stops include: the Abbey du Thoronet, Barjols, Lorgues and Draguignan. With several top quality Cotes de Provence wines in and around les Arcs, there is lots to sample. Providing an excellent overview is the region’s “Maison des Vins”, center for Provence wine tasting, is located in Les Arcs.

The house and front garden overlook the ancient chateau and tower. In this luminous setting you will appreciate the calm, tranquil space after a day of exploring the region. The entire ground floor is filled with natural light with open views on both front and back gardens. Opening onto the front garden through 2 arched doorways you'll find the interior living and dining room, also a great place to relax in front of the wood-burning stove during cool fall and winter evenings. The dining table seats 6 comfortably. Out in the gardens you can relax on chaise-lounges sampling some of the local wines or enjoying a nice meal you have created with delicious ingredients from the local farmers markets. Both gardens have dining tables. The natural light also floods into the professional, fully equipped kitchen which opens directly on the back garden patio and fountain. One level up you will find two bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with WC and shower. Located on the top level is the third bedroom. The sun-filled bedrooms have views directly on the old chateau and tower.

Having 2 garden patios allows you to take advantage to dine or lounge in full sunshine or shade as the sun shifts throughout the day. The rear patio is a garden oasis with its fountain and deep basin, perfect to cool-off those tired feet. With its naturally hard surfaces, the house is not suitable for small children. The house has been completely renovated by local artisans in a clean, whitewashed Mediterranean style, and is fully equipped with modern appliances. At the top of a medieval stone village

This is a delightful, well designed and equipped attached house right on a small square at the very top of a restored village above the town of Les Arcs. The commercial section of the town is a short walk (but back is all uphill) through captivating alleys and winding stairs. The house has both an interior court and front, private garden patio; both are delightful, and sitting there is very enjoyable. The owners are extremely helpful and cordial, and the property was very well maintained. Couple that with an outstanding location to explore the western Var, and I would gladly stay again.

The perfect French holiday

The property surpassed all our expectations and we had a magical holiday in Les Arcs. What better way to enjoy this charming location than staying in the heart of the medieval village in this beautiful home. We fell in love with the village during a previous holiday and this property, beautifully equipped and with a wonderful layout that perfectly suited the needs of our family, enabled us to enjoy the delights of the perfect French holiday - great food and wine, French markets, fantastic weather, beautiful beaches and the spectacular and varied surrounding countryside. To pretend it was ours even just for two weeks was fantastic! We would recommend it without hesitation and hope to return one day.

Quiet retreat in medieval town

The property exceeded its description. The photos were spot on and truly reflected the house and its surroundings. We had a very enjoyable stay. The house was very spacious and well suited for our family of 5. It was clean and very well equipped. The location was ideal for day trips as it was close to the main highways and easily accessible. The walk to the center of town was very short and the town was lovely. We really enjoyed the farmers market in town and the local market had most everything we needed - if not, the main supermarket was a short drive. Our only complaint was that parking spaces were often in short supply, and getting in and out of the square in front of the house could be challenging. Ideally, there would be one parking spot reserved for this address at all times. Otherwise, the home was perfect for our family. Our trip was made all the more enjoyable knowing that we had this wonderful place to stay each night. The local caretaker only speaks French, but when we had a problem with the hot water, he came out right away and took care of it immediately. The owners were very helpful and accommodating and provided many helpful tips about the town and its surrounding. We can recommend this property without reservation.

Like Stepping Back in Time

The house, the setting, the town were magical. There were four of us staying in the house, which was built in ancient times (that is to say European ancient times, not US/Canada ancient times), but is thoroughly modern and convenient on the inside. When you stay here, you are at the top of a medieval hilltop village that was once besieged by Saracen warriors (in the 11th Century). You inhale history with every step on the cobbled streets. Kitchen, furnishings, bedrooms, bathrooms are all modern, efficient and of very good quality. Walk down the hill to the town, attempt even a few words of French (like "Bonjour. Comment ca va?" and you are family. Those who carp that it's hilly and it is difficult to park should confine their vacations to Motel Sixes in Ohio -- plenty of room to park and no steps. No history, either.(By the way, we were upgraded by Hertz to a huge Volvo and had little trouble finding a spot to park, although sometimes we had to walk a few dozen yards from car to house. This was not a hardship because every step we took was a step back in time). The town is convenient to many great destinations in Provence and, appealingly, attracts mostly French and European visitors so you never feel you are in a Disneyland recreation. The nearby hotel (perhaps a 30 second walk) boasts a really fine restaurant. And the local markets are brimming with great fresh produce so you'll want to stock up and do some cooking at home in the wonderfully well-equipped and roomy kitchen. We've rented apartments and houses in other towns in France and in Italy and this one was one of the best.

My husband and I had a delightful visit of several days at this very attractive and comfortable property, located on a quiet little square with fountain in the very old part of Les Arcs. The attached home has two private courtyards with beautiful landscaping and gardens, a modern and well-stocked kitchen and large living-dining area. We enjoyed walking down the narrow streets past ancient houses to the modern village center for shopping at the town's weekly outdoor market. One day we drove to Bruno's restaurant in Lourges for an elegant truffle-filled lunch. We also visited several local wineries and hiked in the scenic countryside.

Two Norwegians

We very much enjoyed staying in the house, and thought it was very nicely “redecorated”. We loved the bright rooms, and that it was kept free from a lot of furniture and left some space open. The kitchen was also very well equipped, and we used it almost every night. The weather wasn’t too good, but we kept warm with the firewood Madame Carletti’s housband cut for us. We also went for some nice hikes in the area, and visited the castle restaurant. We had a lowely stay, and will be back!
