LAKEFRONT HOME IN A QUIET SUBURB OF VICTORIA NEAR ROYAL ROADS U

Langford House Rental Photos and Description

Lakefront House sleeps 7, 3.5 Bedrooms, 2 Baths. Carriage suite sleeps 2 (1 bat

Location, character and price are the three key ingredients to a worthwhile vacation home. All three describe Waterlily Lane on uncrowded Glen Lake. Charming Victoria, the 'garden city' is nearby and Waterlily is on it's edge. 20 mins away from both Butcharts and Victoria's inner harbour area.

'Waterlily' is the perfect gathering place for a island vacation, family reunion, group holiday or wedding party. Need more beds? Rent the attached 500 sq ft carriage house for $150 night. NB Once the main house is booked I don't separately book the attached carriage house to insure privacy for main house guests. During summer minimum booking is 4 nights. (Off season Oct-April min stay is 2 nights.)

We provide free of charge:

* a 10 x 12 ft electric motor barge to cruise the lake

* canoes, kayaks, sup boards, sailing dinghy

* 6 bikes to cycle the famous Galloping Goose cycle trail

* lakeside firepit and Taki Tiki Bar/change room

* fishing rods, tackle boxes - easy to use Minnkota electric trolling motors. (2)

Walk up the garden path through fruit trees and grape vines across the large sundeck and through french doors into a rambling split level 3 bedroom main house. Waterlily is a renovated 1960's original lake cottage. The 500 sq ft deck with hot tub has a 'wow' factor with a 180 degree view over Glen Lake. See more photos of interior on my website: www.waterlilylane.com hit property tab to view slide shows of 3 areas.

The private sloping lakefront lawn boasts a Jimmy Buffet Taki Tiki Bar, firepit with a drift wood couch, dock with a cruising barge called 'The Princess', rope swing, 2 canoes, sailing dinghy, kayak, fishing gear, 2 stand up paddle boards for guest use. Lifejackets to fit 3-90 in dock box.

For toddlers/children there is a large park next door with new playground apparatus. Running and hiking trails disappear in the hills behind Waterlily. Grab 1 of six bikes and go for a cycle inn the safe Galloping Goose old rail trail for 40kms worth of car free cycling trails. Maps provided.

Centrally located on the Saanich peninsula Waterlily is 30 mins from the international airport, ferry terminals and 20 minutes from downtown on Victoria's west shore. Nestled amongst the evergreen paradise called Westhills, 7 mins down the road is the the historic Royal Roads University and the oceanfront of Esquimalt Lagoon.

Stay connected with wireless internet throughout, guest computer with printer attached so no need to bring your laptop. Iphone docking stations available.

The BEST meat store on the island (Glenwood Meats) within 200 meter walk. Westshore Mall with 5 plex movie theatre 5 mins away.

Lots of wildlife visit the property, you even may see our resident fisherman 'Hemmingway,' a blue heron, catching fish off the dock. Or native turtles sunning themselves on a log next door or the family of otters crunching on crayfish up in the rope swing tree fort. More bald eagles live here than across the border.

Waterlily has everything you need to make yourself comfortable and with easy access to the main attractions our beautiful British Columbia Island has to offer - without the hassles of heat, traffic jams and biting insects. Goldstream provincial park is only 3 kms away.

If extra space for your group is needed the carriage suite can be booked for $150 and has its own full kitchen and bathroom (sleeps two). A sofa bed in the main allows 2 more in the main. (bed total both places = 11)

Bear Mtn Gym and Yoga center is 10 min drive up the hill. 5-8km running trails easily accessible are nearby.

Westhills Stadium home to the Canadian National Rugby team is located on Glen Lake Road just around the corner and across the lake from us.

Born in Australia but raised here in BC - I work as an counsellor in our local school district.

The property reflects my time spent sailing, travelling and living in New Zealand, Australia and the Caribbean. I enjoy hosting people and sharing the adventures to be had here on Vancouver Island be it great food, world class Salmon fishing spots or surf kayaking locations.

The Owner purchased this house in 2004

My parents raised me to appreciate a good view and Waterlily has that and more. Bald eagles nest in our giant fir trees, heron fish from the same docks we do, otters crunch the crayfish while large turtles bask in the sun on the cedar logs that form a water garden next door. It is not unusual to see a deer stop on the path and look at us playing crib down at the firepit in the early evening during summer.

So much to do within easy reach from our home with good weather - not too hot and not too much rain. Very few biting insects. The only things that bite are the bass, trout and catfish in the lake.

During summer I like to walk down to the Taki Tiki and make a fresh cup of coffee in the early morning, sit silently on a couch by the glassy lake and just be. Or grab a yoga mat do some stretches before diving into the lake for a warm water swim. The lake can get to 80f (24c) degrees (matching air temperature) on the surface during summer. When it gets too hot on the lake then you can retreat with a book or a beer to a hammock under shade by the numerous fruit trees..

There are 6 bikes to take out on the historic rail trail called the Galloping Goose at the end of Glen Lake road and you can ride for 40 kms in either direction travelling on a protected bike path shaded by forest for most of it.

Hiking/running trails are easy walk away from your front door. Ask me about where to go mountain biking.

I am not a golfer however Bear Mtn, Royal Colwood and Olympic View are all within a real time 10 minute drive. World class Salmon and Halbut fishing is an hours drive up the west coast. I charter fish every year with success (limit out on Halibut and Salmon)

Rugby Canada makes it's West Coast home field and training centre at one end of our lake.

SLICE OF HEAVEN ON THE DOORSTEP OF THE CITY

  • 5 of 5
This beautiful lakefront apartment exceeds all that is detailed on the site. Light, roomy, equipped and decorated as your own home but with so many special extras. We arrived and met our son and his family, so a party with an age gap of 3-68 needs quite different activities. We fished off the floating pontoon, we paddled in the canoes, we stood on the paddle boards and swam in the warm lake....all before drinks on the amazing terrace. Access in downtown Victoria was easy, just a 20 minute drive, so the Lakeside home had it all. We loved our stay and will definitely go back on our next visit.

WOW

  • 5 of 5
This was absolutely amazing and everything we needed for our large family. I don't even know where to start, but the lake is absolutely tremendous. I'll go through as much as I can:
Getting there: Ferries is a good way to go, although it is a little expensive and is about 30 mins away. WaterLily is tucked away perfectly on the island and is a lakefront property on gorgeous(and private)Glen Lake
The Lakehouse: it is a very nice lakehouse (cottage built in the 60's) that's 3 floors with 3 bdrms and an extra bed downstairs. Probably 2500 sq feet. In the basement is a TV/DVD player that we didn't use much because we were outside so much, and a drum set. The beds are nice, we were comfortable. There is a washer/dryer. The main floor is also nice, although there were quite a few big ants on it (that was really hard for our kids), but what do you expect, its a lakehouse! And I think the owner is going to take care of it. Underneath the lakehouse is a tenant-Val-who is very nice. Richard (owner) is really good to work with and does everything he can to make sure you have a fantastic experience!
The Property: Right outside the back door is a grill and a beautiful deck with a hot tub. Our kids spent a lot of time in this very nice, old school hot tub. But we liked that it was older because we could all sit down in it. And the water was very warm w 3 jets
The Lake, Lakefront, and toys: This is where we spent almost all our time. It was, in a word, incredible. We were there in March and our kids all did the rope swing and swam over to shore (multiple times, then ran and got in the hot tub). I couldn't believe it. The water wasn't warm, but for Canada, in March, was amazing that our kids could get in. We were lucky that it was sunny most the time! But we love the rain and even when it rained it was beautiful. There are plenty of life jackets. The "Princess" barge is almost worth it just for this. Our kids LOVED trolling around the lake on it. And there are a ton of other water toys as well-canoes, kayaks, other little boats to fish from, etc
We don't drink so we didn't use the Taki tiki bar, but we did use the firepit and it was very nice. There is also horseshoes and bikes too.
Right next it is a nice little park with a sandy beach and toys for the kids to play on.
All in all, this was an incredible adventure into Canada for our family. We went to the Mormon church, which was very nice and pretty close, as is the Hatley Castle.
This was extraordinary!

Owner's Response: Vancouver Island is the warmest place in Canada but to go swimming in March you would have to be used to cold water. Occasionally if March is wet we can get visited by ants despite eradicating them as soon as they show ( I was away in New Zealand for Feb-March) so this family got a surprise. But they leave as soon as the weather warms in June. We are lucky they are only a post winter wet spring visitor - and do not suffer the biting mosquitoes most lakes on the mainland experience. Non-existant here.

PERFECT GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
Very close to downtown Victoria but far enough away to feel "away from it all". Richard is great and very helpful as a local guide to directions as well as local eats. Loved being on the lake and taking the "Princess" out for a morning cruise watching the sun rise.

Owner's Response: I agree with these guests from Calgary, I chose Vancouver Island, Water Lily Lane to live for it's location: waterfront that was close to the city but not in it. Having grown up in Vancouver, worked and lived in San Diego, Auckland and Sidney - I appreciate beautiful cities but prefer being on the edge of them instead of immersed the hustle bustle. The 180 degree view is mostly forest of tall firs and few houses. A sanctuary from urban sprawl.

GREAT PLACE TO EXPERIENCE SOUTHERN VANCOUVER ISLAND

  • 5 of 5
We had great fun at this lakefront property, which is in a semi- suburb of victoria yet still feels relatively remote.... A peaceful place to relax, we greatly enjoyed being able to take out the floating raft/pontoon which comes with a 2hp motor that allowed us to buzz about the lake a do a spot of fishing.... Inside the home was very comfortable and had everything anyone would require.... There are plenty of places to explore nearby, we found ourselves being very lazy at the property though! Very much recommended, suitable for families, groups, couples, almost everyone.
