Worst experience with a rental we've ever had!
Worst experience with a rental we've ever had!
Went to SC for our daughter's boot camp graduation. Should have been a great experience, right? Well, it wasn't!
To make the long story short - the owner was hard to reach from the beginning, offered no contract at first (did it only after I expressed my concerns), inconsistent, disorganized, slow to response. Later after we left, she became very rude, accusing, lacking business etiquette. At the end she tried to keep our security deposit, even though there was NO damage whatsoever in the house, stating that we left the house a mess. We argued for good two weeks before she finally sent it back. We did clean the house upon departure (even though we paid for cleaning!) and made sure we followed all her rules but even then, she sent an e-mail saying that she had the right to keep our security deposit because we left a mess! Owner said that she felt like we wanted to take advantage of her and said she'd charged other people before that for doing it. Let me make it clear. What she called a mess was: 1) a candy wrapper on the floor that I'm assuming our new Marine most likely dropped and didn't see since she was the one eating the candy; 2) a cereal box and a sugar box on the counter (which we left for the cleaning crew, didn't want to throw good food, both in store boxes, open on top) and 3) the dishwasher was loaded but not started upon departure which was intentional in case it malfunctioned with no one in the house and the rules said "wash dishes by hand and put them away or leave them in dishwasher. No comment...
The house - Nice on the inside and out, old and charming, looked like an interior designer did the inside. But it was not ventilated at all! We tried opening windows upstairs, All were stuck! Who knows how long it had been since they were open! Smelled like a museum! Old and filthy! I had an asthma attack within the first 15 mins! We finally managed to open one window upstairs and I slept in the kids room because I couldn't breath anywhere else! The house had NO alarm clocks! Actually NO clocks whatsoever accept the one on the stove. You would think with all the military families visiting someone would think of buying a clock! 2 of the burners on the stove did not work, the downstairs had no privacy at all! Everybody from the street could see the inside. Kitchen was very poorly organized and hard to find things. TV's upstairs were very old. Internet was extremely slow and pretty much impossible to use. I can go on.
Overall - terrible experience!
Owner's Response: We are happy you chose our home for your trip to your daughter's graduation! I regret you feel we did not meet up to your expectations. I always try to be very accommodating and respond to my guests within 6 hours of their request. I would have been more than happy to address any of your issues if you had called me when you were at our home instead of waiting 3 weeks after you left. I gladly returned your deposit within 14 days.
My home is always very clean and inviting as you know and as can be seen from all of the other very positive reviews from extremely satisfied guests.
I will continue to do my best to give "Southern Hospitality" to my guests!
