Overview

Governor's Harbour House Rental Photos and Description

1 Bedroom , 1 Bath (Sleeps 2)

Med Point is a ROMANTIC, SECLUDED ONE-BEDROOM OCEANFRONT BEACHHOUSE, located on Casuarina Beach and just 100' from Club Med (French Leave) Beach. No other properies are between it and world-famous Club Med (French Leave) Beach. It is a short stroll to Twin Coves Beach and its superb snorkeling reef, where the movie 'Three' was filmed. Med Point Beach House is like a lighthouse guarding the north end of Club Med Beach, which is the loveliest and safest beach in Eleuthera. In addition, we are only a 1 mile stroll to the centre of town.

Med Point beach house has a huge 1100 square foot teak wrap-around deck facing the beach and ocean, and all the modern conveniences, with a full kitchen, living room with dining area, wifi and large sliding glass doors on both sides facing the ocean to maximize your viewing pleasure. It has a KING BED, plus 2 day beds in the living room, and a dining table facing the ocean.

The 1 storey house was NEWLY RENOVATED in 2009 by Governors Harbour's premier designer, with wood floors, Brazilian cherry doors, and white wainscot accents. The king wooden platform bed and sofas/daybeds were specially created for Med Point, which has a blue and white theme. Comforts include 400 thread-count sheets and Thomas by Rosenthal china. Step outside the glass doors, and you will see ocean spreading away as far as you can see. (Description cont'd at bottom of ad)

Further Details: There are miles of deserted beaches on both sides, with the famous pink sand French Leave Beach (also known as Club Med Beach, for the Club Med that used to be there) next door. If you love the ocean, this place is it, because you will see, smell, and hear the ocean 24 hours a day. Because we are on a point, you can walk the 1 mile to the town of Governor's Harbour, along a sandy road through French Leave Beach.

The drive to Med Point, takes you for about half a mile, on a sandy lane through Club Med Beach, looking out to sea and giant cacti and palms. You will enjoy this splendid view of nature every day, as you go into town.

The famous bar/restaurant Tippy's is close, and there are upscale restaurants such as Sky Beach Club and the Beachhouse, (the latter only 15 minute walk down the beach), as well as charming takeouts in Governor's Harbour.

Med Point is also close to Tear Coat Cay, a small island offshore, where you can snorkel; also close to lots of reefs for other snorkeling. The water is gin clear, 100 feet of visibility, and we have seen parrot fish, groupers, rays and other exotic fish. The water is 75 to 88 degrees fahrenheit.

French Leave (Club Med) Beach stretches southward for 1 mile: we are at the northern edge. Casuarina Beach, stretches north of us for another mile, and then Twin Cove beach stretches north for another mile or so. All of this can be walked along wide sandy pink beaches with excellent shelling. Or you can jog along the sandy path that is Old Banks Road and have wide vistas of white surf.

The various gardens have coconut and royal palms, hibiscus and oleander and sea lettuce. We have a gardener, Emanuel, who attends to the plants and the beach. Walk off one stairway on the deck and you will stand on a gorgeous coral garden and see the nearby blowhole that spouts 30 feet in the air. Walk off the other steps past hibiscus and palms and geckos onto Casuarina Bay Beach. Turtles nest at night on our beach. Sunbathe on beach loungers and follow the sun around, through the day, on two wide decks.

The house is decorated modernly, in blue and white with great attention to feng shui. Two walls of the house are glass, so that you are bathing in views of blue ocean and surf. There are two huge daybeds/couches for lounging, and a rocking chair to plan for retirement. The kitchen is new, and comfortably supplied, for cooking as you stare at the ocean. Then dine at a beautiful wooden table, staring at the ocean nearby, virtually at your feet. At night, go out on the deck and get a fabulously clear view of the stars. You will hear the ocean all day and night.

French Leave Beach, which you can step onto, is the most famous and romantic beach in Eleuthera. It is very wide, and the water is shallow for several feet, and 25 feet out is terrific snorkelling. Body surfing is fun on windy days in shallow water. Or you can just frolic. Once you've stepped out and dried off, walk a mile to the Beach House Bar, on the beach, and enjoy a cappuccino.

Most people who walk by Med Point, express regret that they are staying elsewhere! They tell us that they would like to spend their next holiday at Med Point.

Christine, the caretaker, can make a caribbean meal and banana bread, and bring coconut water on request.

Why Susan Lawless chose Governor's Harbour

When I first saw this place, it reminded me of the beach house featured in the Julia Roberts movie 'Sleeping With the Enemy'.

Exceptional Property. Prime Location. Great Find!

  • 5 of 5

While seeking privacy, location and amenities for our Bahamas vacation experience, I found Med Point in Governors Harbour. We are delighted with our choice. Everything was seamless and easy. From reserving the property, to having the caretaker create a magical meal for us upon arrival.

The location is central to the island, and is surrounded by miles of secluded sand beach with turquoise water and crashing waves. Med Point is beautifully appointed, clean and well cared for. We felt at home immediately. Simply drop your suitcase and head to the water.

Loved it. We will be back!

Private Paradise !

  • 5 of 5

If you wish to escape to a private beach house on a beautiful beach, away from the "resort crowd", look no further. We found Med Point to be everything previous reviewers wrote. We went "unplugged" for the week and enjoyed a marvelous, relaxing week in our own little "piece of paradise". The week was slightly cooler than normal for February, but we enjoyed highs in the mid to upper 70s and lows in the mid to upper 60s. The home is well taken care of by Christine and her husband David, (who both were very helpful to us during our stay). Walking north on the beach, we never came upon another soul. Walking south on Med Point Beach, we occasionally did, but only every couple hundred yards or so. We spent much of our time lounging on the deck reading books to the sound of the ocean. We found snorkeling on the north end of Club Med Beach to be wonderful, (I wore a 2/1mm longsleeve top and was very comfortable). We found the best grocery shopping to be at Burrows and Island Farm. The Pineapple Fields deli had a good selection of goods, as well. Da' Perk offered wonderful breakfast foods and coffee drinks. We got "takeaway" meals from the Beach House and Tippy's. Both were excellent ! We recommend renting an SUV for exploring, and were very happy with Knowles rental.

Julianna and Tara from Homeaway were extremely helpful from answering our questions prior to booking Med Point to making them selves available up to the day of our return home.

Many thanks to Christine, David, Julianna, and Tara for making sure all our questions were answered and all our needs were met. We would definitely stay at Med Point if we ever make it back to Eluethera.

Spectacular Oceanfront location

  • 5 of 5

We loved Med Point from the beautifully done interior, featuring white and pickled wood, to the expansive decks on 2 sides, to the exciting drive through a beachside jungle lane which leads to the cottage, and of course the never ending views of the water from the two almost completely glass walls! The kitchen and bath were modern and well equipped, the beach themed furniture seems to be custom made for the cottage, and the beach and deck chairs were of the highest quality. Med Point's spectacular location between 2 different beaches gives you a choice of different beach hikes, to the north on Casaurina, you encounter more varied terrain and different beaches, to the south French Leave ( also called Med Point) looks like an advertisement for a Bahamas tourism brochure. About a 20 minute stroll down this beach is the Beach House restaurant and bar which features great food, a cozy oceanfront bar and amazing views. Julianna and Tara at Eleuthera Vacations were extremely helpful and friendly before and during our stay and Homeaway really made the planning easy. They even sent us info on local happenings in Governors Harbour during our stay so we didnt miss out on the local flavor. Eleuthera is an island for travelers rather than tourists and it's lack of development is a true advantage as a destination. We have stayed in varied types of accomodations throughout the Caribbean but never have we been so pleased with our choice as we have been with Med Point. If total relaxation, a genuine Caribbean vibe, ease of dealing with owner, agency, and caretaker, great local restaurants, and friendly locals are goals in your search for a vacation destination, Eleuthera and Med Point are your answers.

Perfect location and home for our Honeymoon!

  • 5 of 5

The location of this house was awesome. You have 2 beautiful beaches on either side of the house. The house was bigger than I thought. Plenty of room. Easy access to Governors Harbour which is right on the other side of the hill. Had all the privacy we needed. Everyone on the island was nice and friendly. There was no cable or sat TV so if you wanted to watch something you need to bring DVD's. Next time we go we will leave some DVD's so a library gets built up. There were 2 beach chairs that came in handy. We really liked the Buccaneer Club which is right on the road from the harbour to the cottage. Fresh food done well. We also bought 2 lobster tails from the fishermen across from Da Perk and did dinner at home. It was great and can't wait to do again! The Beach House was a great place for dinner but only open 2 nights a week so make sure you check before going. Tippy's and Sky Beach Club both were good. We couldn't get wifi to work at the house and had to go to Da Perk to access which wasn't a bad thing. The bakery in town was really good too. I read a review that said you didn't need a rental car but I couldn't imagine not having one. I would definitely recomend getting an SUV

Awesome

  • 5 of 5

If a picture is worth a thousand words - well..... upon arriving at this property you will be speechless! Idyllic.

Everything as promised and more.

Homey, clean, perfect location, incredible views across the turquoise Atlantic and wide, powdery pink, deserted beaches at your doorstep. Could not be better!

Pack up your best friend, a bathing suit, a pair of flip flops, a stack of books and you're good to go!

Ask Christine to prepare for you her curry chicken dinner...a delicious treat! The local people are a delight!

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

The property was just as described, actually it was even better than we could have pictured! The house was very comfortable, the view incredible and the beaches right out the door were some of the prettiest we saw on the island. We went snorkeling right off the beach at our house and it was some of the best we saw all week!

The kitchen was well stocked, enough for basic kitchen tasks and making simple meals. The house is located very conveniently to Governor's Harbor which has 2 great grocery stores and is close to delicious restaurants. It also means you are right in the middle of the island, so for exploring it is a great access point to start.

Also, just by way of information re: the island, some days the Atlantic was rough and some days the Caribbean was. We just woke up, looked out the window and decided where we would explore based on the condition of the water. We had 3 days of the Atlantic being flat and 3 days of the Caribbean being flat. Perfect!

Christine, the caretaker, was very welcoming, accommodating and helpful. We fully recommend this beautiful, private, comfortable, dreamy island location!
