We are preparing to leave the cottage and can hardly bear to do so!
This has been our fifth time to stay in this magical cottage and each time is
Just as amazing as the last. Believe EVERY good thing that you read in these reviews!
Your stay here will be absolutely PERFECT in every way.
Visit Mendocino and stay at La Petite Maison; the lovely cottage in the woods. You won't be disappointed! Mary and Peter are such charming host that you will never want to leave...
Mary had thought of everything and I mean everything to make our stay extra special. Wine, fruit, Italian cake, coffee, milk, eggs butter and English muffins...since Mary is English! It was actually Bed...with all the Breakfast fixings.
Since my husband and Peter love to cook…they discussed what they love to eat! One evening Peter prepared a delicious cold lentil salad for us, which we have since made at home.
Our first night was spent by a lovely fire, that was ready to enjoy after our arrival. The second morning we were surprised to find a wheelbarrow loaded with wood outside our door in anticipation of the coming storm.
We were there for four nights celebrating our fourth anniversary and on the fourth night the big storm hit! With the lovely skylights above the bed we had a nice view of the storm. Now if you don't want to wake up to the light in your eyes Mary has eye patches for you too! There are also nice warm and toasty robes to relax in...
The morning of the storm Mary calls since the electricity is out...and she is on her way over with hot water, milk, cold cereal and lanterns. My husband and I were all set to ‘rough it’…until Mary saved the day!
The most wonderful experiences when traveling...are meeting special people like Mary and Peter. Thank you dear friends for all your TLC…
La Petite Maison was our home away from home for a full week...and we could have stayed even longer! (Maybe like never left!) We were there for the Mendocino Open Paint Out and after a full day of "work" couldn't wait to get back to the beauty and warmth our our petite maison! Now the cottage itself was amazing; however, like all B & B's or private "rentals" the key is the host(ess) and we were not disappointed. Mary and Peter made sure that we had EVERYthing we needed and then some. From the "breakfast items" awaiting our arrival to the potted plant upon departure and all the extras in between...we couldn't have asked for anything more. This has undoubtedly been our very favorite place that we have stayed at during our many travels - and as artists we travel to many different places! Mary and Peter will stay our "lifelong" friends in our hearts and we will definitely be back the next time we are in the area! HIGHLY recommend La Petite Maison to anyone, especially singles or couples who want to get away from the hustle & bustle of ordinary life as you escape to your private fantasy "home" among the redwoods! Our stay will always be UNFORGETTABLE!
We spent a lovely Thanksgiving in this charming and beautiful cottage, just up the hill from Mendocino. The setting is breathtaking--a lovely English-style garden surrounded by towering redwoods. We took some great walks along the Mendocino bluffs and down to the beach, in the van Damme State Park and in the Jughandle State Park. Mary and Peter were incredibly gracious hosts. What more can I say? We would love to go back at the next opportunity.
Over the last 25 years we have stayed in Mendocino on numerous occasions. It's our favorite place of anywhere in the world and our week long stay at Petite Maison was our most memorable. The cottage is more than one could ever desire. We could have quite easily spent our entire time just on the second level. It's so pretty. Our hostess Mary is enchanting. We both fell in love with her. Even if we don't return we will always be in contact with Mary.
I am very, very glad we chose this little house for our honeymoon. My wife loved it! She was taking pictures of everything in the house. She loved everything about the house and the gardens outside which I was very happy to see. :) It was very comfortable and secluded deep into a redwood forest. My wife also loves to cook and the kitchen had most anything she could possibly need for cooking. We were only a couple minutes away from the beach and the town of Mendocino (Which is where the movie "Majestic" was filmed, we discovered). After we left and returned home I realized we had left a couple pairs of shoes at the cottage and Mary is going to send them to us in Utah at no charge! She is a very kind and friendly woman. She's awesome! :) Thanks Mary! We loved it! 6 Stars! :)
