Pictures do not do this cabin justice!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! We made our travel plans very last minute and were happy to find a place to stay for just one night.

THe owners have made many updates on the exterior that these pictures do not give the home justice. When you walk in you see all the attention to detail with a variety of antiques and hardwood floors. It is like you stepped back into the 1800's but still have the amenities of a modern cabin.

It is very isolated , just you and the stream. The back deck gives a great view of the river below. Very relaxing.

We have rented many homes and this one falls into the "way more than expected" for the price.

A Step Back in Time

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was a perfect getaway for my wife and I. We had to spend a few days in town for a wedding, and while most of the wedding party were in nearby hotels, we had the incredible solitude and beauty associated with this cabin. The quiet driveway and tightly closed woods makes the visitor feel as if they are the only people for miles. This rustic cabin feels like you stepped in the 1700s, but the appliances and other amenities are modern and convenient. We will definitely be returning as soon as we can.

Perfect Get-A-Way Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect little cabin! My husband and I came here for our honeymoon and it is a great get-a-way for anybody! The fishing is great here, and the views are fantastic! The cabin is about 15 minutes from Appomattox Courthouse and the Museum of the Confederacy. I highly recommend this cabin. This is one place we will surely be visiting again!

Charming, clean and secluded.

  • 5 of 5

What a great experience! We arrived on Friday, May 24, 2013 for Memorial weekend. Our teen fluctuated from loving the trip - so cool was the property for exploring the wooded acres, bushwhacking paths to alternate fishing spots, and fishing. But when he discovered no cell phone coverage to text his friends to share his fun and no wifi to game on his iPod Touch- he was bummed, but not for long. So, If you are looking for an opportunity to unplug your child from texting and gaming, this is the perfect place. On Saturday (and again on Sunday- admission is good for a week of entries to the park) we went to the Appomattox Court House National Park. We stopped by Walmart to pick up some fishing tackle. Our teen caught the first fish (while testing the cast for his younger sister) and was thrilled. We played family games at night and completed a puzzle over the long weekend. Our younger two waded around in the river when we stopped catching fish. The cicadas Brood 2 were very loud. It was fun to see them everywhere outside. I decided that this was my new way to camp. We spent most of our day outside and slept inside on a comfortable bed with air conditioning and bathroom. The kitchen is well stocked for normal food prep, but I had brought a cake mix that needed a loaf pan, so Kathy brought me three different ones to choose from. She and Carlton were only a phone call away (using the cabin phone) and willing to accommodate us if we had any questions or needed anything not already on the premises. We saw a small orange colored Eastern American toad, a large Eastern Fence lizard, a very loud Ruby Throated hummingbird, a deer, 5 various fish and tons of cicadas. I did not see (to my relief) any poison ivy on the path between house and river and none of us got a rash (including the bushwhacking kids). It is a steep path down to the river - so I always used walking sticks to keep my footing.

The cabin was a little crowded with 3 kids (in sleeping bags), but compared to camping in a tent, it was very spacious. I can imagine it being a very nice romantic getaway for two, but we wanted to try it with the whole family. When making the reservation, I emailed the owners a long list of questions. They promptly called me and answered everything. The place is charming, clean, and secluded. Thank you Kathy and Carlton. We will try to make another visit in August.

Rivers Bend Cabin

  • 5 of 5

If peace & quiet is what you're looking for, then look no further. Situated on 50 acres adjacent to the Appomattox River, Rivers Bend is about 0.3 mi down a gravel path from the blacktop. More of a small home with a rustic exterior than a true "cabin" the Rivers Bend has all the amenities you need for your visit. The kitchen is well equipped to cook whatever you feel like and even has granite counters! There is a beautiful forest and river view from the deck and the only sounds you will here are birds and the gurgling of the Appomattox River. If you're into music, bring your own hardware, as that is about the only thing the cabin is lacking. Carlton and Kathy are gracious hosts and will meet you there and give you a tour pointing out things like which switch works what, etc. A perfect base camp for your visit to Appomattox.
