Bennington Trail Retreat
This bright and sunny 3 bedroom brook-side country cottage with 2 bedroom guest house on 13 acres in the Monadnock region sleeps 6-12 comfortably. The house is simply but comfortably furnished with everything you need while away from home. In winter, hike, x-country ski, or snowmobile from the front door. In summer, listen to the babbling brook from the large screened-in wrap-around porches, private deck, or spacious yard, or swim in beautiful Lake Whittemore a short walk away. The house is located at the beginning of the Bennington Trail, giving access to many beautiful hiking trails, several that take you to the summit of Crotched Mountain.
The house is ideally located within 5 miles of skiing or golfing at Crotched Mountain and kayaking or fishing on the Contoocook River, Powdermill Pond, or Otter Lake in Greenfield State Park. Peterborough and its many recreational and cultural attractions is only 20 minutes away, while Mount Monadnock and the city of Keene are both a short 45 minute drive.
The house is equipped with two kayaks, lawn games like croquet, beach toys and chairs, sleds, cross country skis, and games for your use.

This was a nice little house with a big yard and a brook around the house. There were 4 adults and 2 children ( ages 6 and 2). The kids loved running around and catching frogs. We had such a great time we are already planning for next year.
My family recently convened in Hancock, NH for a wedding - and ten of us as well as two children stayed at the Brookside Cottage on a beautiful wooded, quiet street close to town. The main house and guest house were fine for our needs but furnishings could have been a little nicer given the price. The porches and deck are wonderful - spent most of our time outside - nice big backyard. The guest house is more comfortable than the main house - very spacious and better furnished - but it sure could use a basic kitchen. If you stay in Bennington - plan ahead - store close early and the grocery store is ten miles away in Antrim.
Just as described !! Rural but not remote. Clean, comfortable, cozy house. Close enough to other villages and towns to enjoy day trips. Great skiing nearby. Fully stocked kitchen. Great owners.
This cottage is good for family vacations. I chose it for a solo peaceful getaway and it worked well for that too. You will have all the comforts of home (washer, dryer, dishwasher, cable tv, wifi) plus a peaceful country setting. During my stay, the trees were turning into their autumn colors, the weather was sunny and perfect. The walk to the lake is just the right distance for a morning jaunt. The screened porch is the best I've ever seen; it extends around the house on two sides, ending in a large open, sunny deck overlooking the brook. I hope to return next year. Owners were very attentive.
This was my second time staying at this lovely property while visiting from Georgia. The description is accurate - "bright & sunny" indeed!
I'm not much of an outdoors person so my favorite features including the screened in porch with the babbling brook providing the soundtrack. Lots of seating on the porch including a comfy couch that was the destination for many a quick snooze.
It was incredibly convenient to have the house stocked with games, books, and the things for the water/beach. Totally fun stay without having to haul a lot of items from home. I did enjoy the short walk (like only a city block) to the Lake at the end of the street. Not having to pack a car to trek far to cool off was a definite plus.
Planning to make it an annual stay!
This House was very quaint. Nestled in a lovely area ( next to a brook) in the town of Bennington, NH. The rooms are much smaller than anticipated and we had a total of 6 of us, the stairs going to the second floor were very steep. Kitchen had limited cooking ppots/pans ( we are a cooking kind of family so we struggled). As it was winter, we went to skii to Crochet, Pats Peek, Rugged Mountain all within 60 minutes of driving. Only true drawback was that the place to park is in a huge incline and our 4 wheel drive almost went into the brook (its only a year old, so we asked for help).
