5th Arrondissement Latin Quarter Apartment Rental Photos and Description

1 Bedrooms, 1 Bathrooms, Convertible bed(s), Sleeps 4

In the lively 5th arrondissement, home to the Sorbonne and Luxembourg Gardens is a wonderful jewel of an apartment that awaits you as your home away from home. A five minute walk brings you to rue Mouffetard, one of the oldest market streets in Paris. Here you will find a wonderful mix of outdoor fresh food stands, food shops and wonderful restaurants.

The apartment is located closest to the Censier/Daubenton metro on line 7 and is within a 10 minute walk from the Port Royal stop on the RER B with direct trains from CDG and Orly Airports (Orly uses a shuttle train to transport passengers to the Antony stop where the RER B is available.)

Nestled on a quiet street, in a quiet interior courtyard, this lovely one bedroom apartment of 42 square meters (450 sq. feet) has all of the conveniences that any traveler could want. One of the first things you notice is how homey and welcoming the owners have made this apartment. That is because, unlike an apartment that has been furnished as a rental unit, the owners of this apartment live here several months a year. They have set it up and furnished it as they would like to live and you as their guests, reap the rewards.

Heated with gas heat, with unlimited hot water, the system’s remote control can be set to give you the perfect temperature for day or night comfort. The thermal insulated double paned windows and door to the garden are designed to help keep the apartment comfortable, no matter what the temperature. Large space saving radiators insure that heat is evenly and efficiently distributed in all rooms, making a visit in colder months as much a pleasure as the warmer months. In fact, with less crowds to deal with, staying here in the late fall and winter is a delightful way to experience a less crowded Paris.

Another wonderful thing about this apartment is its lovely private garden. Hedged all around, the space is a private little oasis in which to enjoy an afternoon drink or a pleasant meal. There is a wooden deck with a resin table which seats four comfortably or a smaller round bistro table for more intimate moments. The French door in the living room leads out to this wonderful added attraction.

A separate bedroom, with a large window looking out on your private garden is sunny and bright. Ample closet space, a comfortable double bed with comfy linens, a flat screen TV with BBC and CNN, a telephone with free calls to 139 countries, including the US, DSL WI-FI internet access, this apartment has it all.

The living room is spacious with a very comfortable double sized sofa bed, a drop leaf table which seats four comfortably, plenty of books to read and guide books to inform, a CD-collection for your listening pleasure, a radio/CD/cassette combination with great sound, an i-Pod speaker dock and a wonderful reading light.

In addition to the sofa, there are two incredibly comfortable Phillipe Starck designed chairs so four people can relax in comfort. The coffee table is on wheels and is very easy to maneuver to allow for the opening of the sofa bed. A dramatic glass and iron display unit contains wonderful pieces of glass and pottery collected by the owners. Everywhere you look is the art work of a home that reflects that someone lives here, not some sterile hotel room,

The recently renovated “American” kitchen has everything one could want to prepare a meal. With all the wonderful markets nearby, we know you’ll be tempted to try your hand at French cooking. But if you don't want to cook there are tons of restaurants nearby and within easy walking distance if the most you want to make is coffee. A breakfast bar and stools allows for easy dining for 2 people.

All brand new appliances welcome you, including an induction stove top, convection oven, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker and a small toaster/oven. Plentiful pots, pans, casseroles, spices and cooking utensils are available as well.

The windowed bathroom has everything you would expect and more. Two separate heaters (one electric near the shower, the other, working off the gas unit which heats the apartment, near the toilet) are available to insure you are toasty warm when you emerge from the recently renovated and enlarged tiled shower. With a choice of two shower heads and unlimited hot water, this is great way to unwind after a long day of touring.

With small hotel rooms in Paris around 200 euros and the strength of the euro compared to the dollar, this apartment is a marvelous value.

We even offer pick up and drop off to both Paris airports for a reasonable additional charge.

My husband and I are both self employed which has allowed us the freedom to travel as we wish. As long as we have an Internet connection we are good to go. When we are not in Paris, we live in Brooklyn NY in a converted warehouse from 1900. We recently transplanted ourselves from the Upper East Side of Manhattan. My husband has two kids and we have four grandchildren.

Amy Schachter purchased this apartment in 2000

It's Paris - what more is there to say? We owned the apartment for 6 years before deciding to rent and our apartment is filled with art and things we decided not to remove when we decided to rent. Paris is an amazing city - after 15 years of visits, we never tire of her street life, restaurants and architecture.

Lovely Apartment in great location

Apartment was wonderful. Has a great new kitchen with nice appliances and much appreciated clear instructions for use in English. Also a huge walk-in shower, very unusual in Paris apartments. Very well stocked with amenities such as paper towels, and food products. The bed was very comfortable and good closet/drawer space, also a plus. The private garden area was an added bonus and we especially enjoyed the quietness, given a major boulevard was within a few minutes walking distance. Location is very good, with a well stocked supermarket and the wonderful Rue Moufftard open air market within a 5 minute walk. Also a laundromat at the end of the street for convenience. The owner Amy was delightful to deal with and I would highly recommend staying here. Very good value for the price.

Owner's Response: Dear Barb and Dave,

Thanks so much for taking the time to share you thoughts. Oscar and I are so pleased that you enjoyed yourselves and we are glad that the apartment lived up to your expectations. We hope you will think of us again for future trips to Paris. Thanks also for your kind words about the instructions. We try and make things as seamless for our guests as possible and our new kitchen (particularly the new induction stove top) created an interesting challenge. Thanks for letting us know we succeeded.

All the best,

A Wonderful Apartment in Paris

We loved our 6 nights in this apartment. The apartment itself was very clean and comfortable. It is well equipped with everything we needed. My husband and I have sensitive backs and we found the double mattress to give us good support. The private patio was a big plus for relaxing after a long day of walking and sight seeing. There is a school on the narrow small street, about 2 buildings from the apartment which meant that with windows open, it could get noisy. However, we were hardly there during the day, and at night, it was very quiet. The bathroom is a little tight, especially around the sink, but we got used to it quickly. The kitchen is recently remodeled and has everything we needed.

The neighborhood was perfect for us. Within minutes, we could walk to everything we needed: bus, metro, charcuterie, boulangerie, grocery store, cafes, wine store, laundromat. We were a 5-10 minute walk to the Pantheon, quaint Rue Mouffetard with all its small markets and boutiques, Contrascarpe Square, and the church where Owen Wilson sat on the steps to be driven back in time in Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris. A friend suggested we stay closer to the river in "the heart" of the Left Bank, but I'm glad we didn't. That area, though very cool, was a mob scene, and we were glad to get back to our quiet and quaint little residential neighborhood after a long day of working through crowds.

The owners are great to work with. The back and forth communication helped answer all our questions before we left. The pre-departure email and information folder left at the apartment helped us settle in right away. We received our deposit in very good time. Being from the states, having American owners really helped us with transferring payment (U.S. check in U.S. dollars) and overall communication.

We would definitely stay in this apartment again!

The PERFECT Place to Stay in Paris

Three of us stayed in this charming apartment for a week in early May, 2013 and we LOVED it! Hate to add any more great reviews because we want to stay here again! But must tell the truth--it was perfect! The entrance off the quiet, two-block long street is deceptive--a large, anonymous two-panel wooden door that leads into the courtyard of small apartment buildings. Straight ahead on the left is the only private garden in the courtyard--and it's YOURS!! We arrived just as the lilac trees and rhododendrons were in FULL bloom, hanging over the garden with such beauty and fragrance.

The apartment is small (by US standards), but the French (what else) doors to the courtyard expand the space immeasurably. The separate bedroom allows privacy and has great storage--and the newly remodeled kitchen has the newest and best of everything--including induction stove top, microwave, full size fridge, great oven, even a dishwasher. Pots, pans, dishes, soap--even cooking basics like oil and spices are there! Not to mention toilet paper and paper towels--which we've missed in other apartment rentals! :)

This apartment is very convenient to much of what we wanted to see and do in Paris--one of us has limited mobility so we chose taxi (use G-7 Taxi--they have English-speaking dispatchers and are very ethical) and sight-seeing buses for basic transportation rather than metro (couldn't do stairs). Worked very well for us! Walking a few blocks takes you to the famous and WONDERFUL Rue de Mouffetard, the absolute best place to buy any food item--the specialty shops and stalls are filled with the highest quality products--and there's a full-service grocery store that looks tiny until you go inside and realize that it's huge!

Amy's manuals are great--clear, simple directions for everything you need to know about the apartment--and suggestions for shopping, restaurants, laundry, etc.

We LOVED living in Paris for a week--and want to return. This gave us a taste of the real Paris in a neighborhood, not a hotel--and we loved it. Thanks for sharing your little jewel on Lyonnais--it was perfect for us!

Great accommodation for our Paris stay

My husband and I recently took our two kids (10 & 12) on a trip through Europe and we were lucky enough to stay at Amy and Oscar's apartment in Paris. On our last night there I sent this email to Amy:

I'm sitting in your garden at 9:30 at night, it's still 23 degrees and very pleasant to be out here indeed.

Today is our last day in Paris and I just wanted to drop you a note thanking you for letting us stay in this wonderful place. From the moment we found it (very easily) when we arrived we have been so pleased with all the arrangements. It is a lovely quite little oasis in the middle of Paris, great public transport connections and shops near by, wonderful to have a kitchen available, very comfortable beds, lovely complex with the garden and the larger courtyard. My kids have been able to play in both without worrying about where they are - and have met a couple of the local kids as well. The wi-fi has been great too, and has allowed us to look up all sorts of things like the best bus connections, or the weather, or attraction times, very easily.

The only bad thing is that we need to leave tomorrow!

Truly at Home!

We just spent almost a month in Oscar and Amy’s apartment, and we didn’t want to go home – partly because of the lure of Paris, to be sure, but also because this apartment was a wonderful substitute “home.” The street itself is very quiet, yet the neighborhood offers all the food shops and restaurants that make Paris so delightful. The apartment is well-organized, well-equipped, comfortable, and charming. It was easy to live here for a month; it’d be hard to find anything to complain about.

On four previous trips to Paris, we’d stayed in hotels. Given the current (June 2012) high prices of even one-star hotels in this part of Paris, our ability to have our own kitchen and dining area made the apartment an economically sound choice (even though we ate one meal out each day). We think of ourselves as very fussy eaters, and the food available 4 blocks away on Rue Mouffetard more than met our expectations.

We particularly liked (a) the combination of a quiet apartment in an active neighborhood, (b) the food shops available on Rue Mouffetard, (c) the proximity to Paris’s cultural institutions, and (d) the availability of public transportation close by. Amy and Oscar (the owners) were very helpful before our departure, and very quick to respond to a minor question we had once we were there. The bottom line: we’d love to stay there again and we recommend it highly.

Owner's Response: Dear Steve and Mary, A long term guest lends a unique perspective on a rental property and we so appreciate your taking the time to write such a thorough and thoughtful review. I know future renters will read your review and know that our apartment is a place where they can truly feel at home. We will look forward to welcoming you back.

Thanks, Amy & Oscar
