A wonderful place to stay.
From start to end, this was the ideal place for us.
I stayed at the Kyoto West Condo with my family of four adults, and even though we were mentally prepared for cramped quarters given the nature of Japanese living, we never had space issues. The house could easily take another two adults with regards to bedding. Everything was clean.
The house includes free access to the internet via a laptop and use of a mobile phone for contacting management. A washing machine meant we didn't have to go to coin laundromats and the television was a great way to unwind after a long day. Anything else we needed or wanted was in walking range, and public transport via the train system was cheap and convenient. Bicycles were provided for us to get around if need be.
The neighbourhood is quiet, and the neighbours are nice people who are used to foreigners coming and going. You are sure to get a greeting every time you pass them on the street. The house is on a hill, so I probably wouldn't reccommend it for guests with disabilities.
Toshi and Hiro were wonderful to us, very understanding and flexible whenever something didn't quite go as planned. They also take the time to help with any details of your stay that you might be unsure of. Although we arrived very late at the nearest station after our flight into Japan, Toshi came to pick us up with a smile and Hiro was very warm and welcoming. If you don't speak Japanese, English is okay. Toshi presented us on arrival with a folder of instructions on how to use utilities and local places of interest, all in English.
Toshi's cultural property is amazing, and a very unique experience. To be honest, I can't think of anywhere else we would have had this opportunity, it was the highlight of our trip.
We had a great time in Kyoto, and this is largely because of our stress-free stay at Kyoto West Condo. This was my best experience by far with Japanese landlords as a frequent traveler to Japan.
