Huatulco was built by Fonatur ( Mexico's Government Tourism Development Agency). Huatulco is located on the Pacific coast of the Mexican state of Oaxaca, at the foot of the southern tip of Sierra Madre del Sur Mountains, about 250 miles south of Acapulco. With mostly sunny days and an average annual temperature of 82F (28c), Huatulco combines comfort and contemporary luxury with natural setting of rain forest jungle, waterfalls and pristine rivers. Huatulco is the largest ecological reserve designated by the Mexican government, making it a truly unique tourist destination which combines a very modern resort infrastructure within a large undeveloped natural area.
Huatulco is truly one of the most beautiful areas on the Mexican Pacific Coast. It stretches from east to west along 18 miles of coastline and encompasses nine pristine bays: Conejos, Tangolunda, Chahue, Santa Cruz, Maguey, Organo, Cacaluta, Chachacual and San Agustin. So far only three major bays have been developed, Tangolunda, Santa Cruz and Chahue.
Tangolunda Bay is home to luxury hotels (Quinta Real and Camino Real Zaashila being the best), two commercial centers, restaurants and a beautiful 18 hole golf course.
Chahue Bay is the newest development famous for its beautiful marina. There are several restaurants condos and villas with more under construction.
Santa Cruz Bay was originally a small fishing village. Upscale and palapa style restaurants line the beach. Santa Cruz has several small shopping areas and the marina where you can rent a boat and visit other bays and beaches. A wonderful Playa La Entrega beach is on the bay. La Entrega is excellent for swimming and has a great coral reef just offshore for easy snorkeling.
The most Eastern bay is Conejos Bay and is protected by steep cliffs. You will find a small restaurant where you can enjoy simple fresh seafood and a cold beer. Another favorite bay is Maguey known for swimming and snorkeling. There is a beautiful coral reef and rock formations. This small bay is lined with restaurants and palapas.
Oregano, Cacaluta with high sand dunes and fresh water lagoon, and Chachacual bays are undeveloped, accessed only by boat, ATV or hiking. According to the development plan much of this area will remain in its natural state. San Agustin is the most Northern bay. It can be accessed only by boat or dirt road. It is well worth the time to visit the remote fishing village and Playa Coyote for a spectacular sunset. It's many reefs make it ideal for diving and snorkeling.

We are Senior Citizens and retired from elementary health and physical education teaching and business consulting work to a beautiful lakeside home that we built on Tellico Lake near the Smoky Mountains of Eastern Tennessee.
Please do come and visit a place in paradise! Condo is for sale and priced at $170K Usd.
Phil and I knew from our very first visit to Huatulco in April 1993 that it was a very special place – a place that we wanted to escape to as often as we could. What a tropical paradise it is every month of the year!
The beauty of the ocean and the mountains, the rivers, 9 bays and 30 miles of beaches is unsurpassed. We have traveled to many wonderful and beautiful travel destinations in our lifetime, but Huatulco remains our favorite. Besides the natural beauty of the scenery, we enjoy the friendly small town atmosphere. Huatulco has all the offerings of a tourist development without being “touristy”. There are plenty of opportunities to observe and enjoy nature. We have done a lot of snorkeling and scuba diving here. Such a variety of marine life! We have enjoyed horseback riding up and down the mountainsides and galloping the horses on one of the uninhabited beaches. Rafting on the rivers is fun. We have hiked and biked, bird watched, gone deep sea fishing, and had the fish we caught prepared for us at a beach side restaurant or we bring the fish back to the condo ready to be cooked. Seafood is always fresh and plentiful in Huatulco. There are lots of “Mom and Pop” type restaurants and no fast food places anywhere in Huatulco. That suits us just fine since healthy lifestyles are what we are about.
The air is so much purer in Huatulco than any other place we have been. We can breathe better. Huatulco has yet to be discovered by many although we have done our best to give others a chance to enjoy it. The Camino Real Zaashila Resort where we have our condo is elegant and rated a 5 star operation. There are 17 acres of beautiful gardens that surround the hotel and condos. Everyone has a view of the ocean.
We never tire of the view.
Come see what we are talking about!
Diane loves the fact that she can sit in the bedroom on the vanity bench at the vanity table with her back to sliding glass door and still see the ocean in the vanity mirror.
The resort has a very laid back atmosphere and is a wonderful place to kick back, relax and reduce stress. Huatulco is a perfect place to read a book or magazine either in the condo or on the balcony or beach side or poolside, you choose. You can walk the beach, collect a few prize shells, go for a swim in the ocean, jump some waves, snorkel, jet ski, etc.
The 330 foot long main pool with it’s vanishing edges was a main selling point for us. Diane loves just walking in the pool for exercise. There are beautiful views of the beach, gardens and flowers. Ready for variety? Get out to the main pool and walk a few yards to the beach or few hundred feet to the Beach Club pool with its waterfall and lunch restaurant. It’s perfectly fine to eat or drink in your swim suit here if you want to.
Coffee plantions are near by, mountains with water falls and turtle museum.
