5th Arrondissement Latin Quarter Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

This 1 bedroom apartment has been renovated to a high quality (Dec. 2010) while retaining it’s original classic features -- marble fireplace, oak parquet, high ceilings with moldings, and full-length French windows with dual glass to ensure peace and quiet. It is 44 sq. meters (474 sq ft), and it's ideal location is just a 5 minute walk to the Seine!

This 2nd floor air conditioned apartment (with new elevator Apr 2013) is well laid out and tastefully appointed. The peaceful color scheme and carefully selected decor creates an inviting feeling of warmth, comfort and luxury. Each room is accessed from the main hallway. The salon is organized into separate areas: living room, dining area and open kitchen.

Living Room--

The living room is furnished with a comfortable sofa (opening to a high-quality queen-size bed) and a tufted ottoman on which to rest your feet or set a drink. Two large Louis XV-style armchairs flank the marble fireplace, creating a cozy conversation area or quiet spot to read, with ample lighting thanks to several lamps and beautiful crystal chandeliers. A flat screen TV with multi-zone DVD player are in a built-in unit, should you wish to catch the news on CNN or watch a favorite DVD from home. An iPod/iPhone speaker/charging dock is tucked away below the TV. A cordless phone with answering machine is provided, and includes free unlimited outgoing calls to over 100 countries, including the US and Canada. A safe is provided for your valuables.

Dining Area--

The weathered oak dining table and Louis XVI-style chairs seat four, and is located adjacent to a large window offering a prime view of the street below. The console table behind the sofa doubles as a computer/work station with plenty of easily accessible electric plugs and good task lighting. High speed wireless internet with unlimited access is provided for your convenience.

The all new open kitchen is spacious, fully-equipped and a delight to cook in. The major appliances are hidden behind integrated cabinet doors. The kitchen has a large refrigerator/freezer, combination microwave/convection oven, 4 burner ceramic cook top, dishwasher, separate full-sized washing machine and dryer, and ample storage. Coffee maker, toaster, electric kettle, immersion blender, glassware, cutlery, utensils, dishes, pots and pans are furnished. An iron and ironing board are also provided.

Just off the living room is a walk out balcony with table and chairs that affords a birds-eye view over the wide intersection and it’s sidewalk cafés and boulangeries. Relax with a drink or pastry as you observe the changing colors of the sunset, or the bustle below as the neighbors shop, walk their children to school or head off to work.

The stately bedroom is carpeted and features a wonderfully comfortable King size bed framed by a custom canopy that will make you feel like royalty. Two wall sconces and a crystal chandelier lend light and atmosphere. The bed is flanked by nightstands on each side, with an alarm clock and phone. The window overlooks a quiet courtyard and is draped with curtains to pull back for light or close to assure privacy. An armoire with plenty of hanging space (lots of deluxe wooden hangers) and drawers provides storage for your personal belongings.

The spacious, modern bathroom features a double sink vanity, WC and a large enclosed shower. The color scheme is darker here – glass and ceramic tiles of medium and dark earth tones make this space feel intimate and sophisticated. Light sconces on the mirror provide perfect lighting for primping, and ceiling spotlights shine down the glass-tiled wall making it sparkle. The heated towel rack assures that the bathroom stays warm and that your towels are always toasty. An opaque window provides ventilation. There is ample space to store your personal items behind the touch-latch mirror and in the drawers and cupboards below the sink. A hair dryer is provided for you.

Access to the building is controlled by digicode, and a 2nd door accessed by key or interphone adds another layer of security. There is a safe in the apartment for keeping your valuables. All new electrical wiring in the apartment, and 2 new smoke detectors.

Built in 1880, 6 floors, Haussman-style building. New 2 person elevator installed in April 2013. The common areas (entry, halls and stairway) are newly painted, tiled and carpeted in December 2013. All new electrical wiring throughout the building to meet or exceed building and safety standards.

The metro station of Cardinal Lemoine (line 10) is literally steps from your front door and quickly takes you to many sights on the Left Bank – the Cluny Museum, Saint Sulpice, Saint Germain des Prés, Le Bon Marché and the Grande Epicerie, the Eiffel Tower, Champ de Mars, Invalides or Musée d’Orsay. Just one block away at the corner of Rue Monge/Rue Navarre is a metro entrance for Place Monge (line 7). This convenient line takes you straight to the Right Bank with direct access to the Marais, Chatalet (where you can transfer to nearly every other metro and RER line), the Louvre, Opera Garnier and points north. The main Place Monge metro station is equipped with escalators (both up and down). Six bus lines crisscross the neighborhood, with bus 47 dropping you right at your front door. Also just a few steps away is a Velib bike station, if you'd like to rent a bike from which to see the city.

About The Owner

My husband is an architect who travels to France occasionally for business. When he took me along on a trip to Paris we were hooked and now visit several times a year. It has been a dream of ours to have a place to call our own and to share with friends and fellow Paris lovers.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2010

Why The Owner chose 5th Arrondissement Latin Quarter

We love the charm of the Latin Quarter! This apartment, in a typical 18th century Haussmanian building on Rue Monge at the intersection of Rue Cardinal Lemoine, has such a convenient location and provides the best of both worlds – a traditional neighborhood where Parisians live and work, and a very central position from which to base a stay in Paris.

All shopping necessities are available within a few steps: grocery store, pharmacy, excellent bakeries, a news agent, wine and cheese shops, organic grocer, post office and other fine shops. In addition, two open-air markets are within a short walk – Place Monge and Place Maubert – open on alternating days, making the purchase of fresh produce, flowers and other items possible six days a week. A host of other services, traditional restaurants, cafés, ATM, business center, dry cleaner, hair salons, florists, etc., are all to be found right in the neighborhood.

Transportation options are also very good from here--being right on the line 10 metro and 2 minutes walk to the line 7. Also, there are lots of bus lines nearby to take you practically anywhere, and a Velib' bike rental station just around the corner. Just down the street is a new Autolib' station, where you can rent a fully electric car by the hour!

Best of all, the apartment is located just a 5 minute walk to the Seine for our morning walk! The Pantheon is also 5 minutes away, as is the lively area of Place de la Contrescarpe and rue Mouffetard. Notre Dame or Luxembourg Gardens is an easy 10 minute stroll.

What makes this apartment unique

Guestbook comments from the manager

Hello, Marie, Christophe, Phillippe, and everyone, Thanks for checking us out. We certainly did enjoy our stay in Paris for the two weeks. And of course, we wish we had stayed at least one more. The apartment met our expectations completely. We were very happy with its location as well. It made our walks and even our subway rides easy and uncomplicated. Neither of us had been to Paris before, and it will not be our last hopefully. Many thanks. We will be in touch when we return.

My wife and I just got back from our European honeymoon. We started off our honeymoon with a week in Paris in this apartment. We cannot say enough about how fantastic our experience was! We hired a car to pick us up at the airport through Guest Apartment Services (which is the management company that looks after this apartment). We were greeted just outside of baggage claim and were then on our way. We arrived very early and they were able to accommodate an early check in. The listing and photos were 100% accurate!

Now, the apartment. The apartment is decorated in a very elegant fashion. All the appliances are easy to find and use, after flying from the US, we were especially fond of the iron, which worked great! The quick highlights of the apartment:
1. Very comfy bed
2. Huge bathroom with a great shower (which is a rarity in Europe)
3. Perfect balcony for enjoying wine, champagne and cheese while people watching.
4. Washer/Dryer. I mean, come on, having access to this while on vacation is HUGE.

The location of this apartment could not have been better for us. There is a metro station directly across the street and another station just up the street. Getting to any of the sights or neighborhoods is incredibly easy from here. During the day the street is bustling but at night it is perfectly quiet for you to enjoy a relaxing evening. Just downstairs there is a supermarket with everything you could possibly need, however, we recommend skipping the supermarket and finding local shops for all your goods (which are up and down the street). Also across the street is the amazing bakery "Maison Gaumer" which we frequented multiple times a day! Just around the corner, we found an amazing restaurant called "Le Buisson Ardent", which we highly recommend for a fantastic dinner. Another plus for US travelers, Paris has UBER and the drivers are great!

Paris is one of our favorite destinations and now that we have found this amazing place, we will only stay here. We highly recommend this apartment for any number of reasons, you will not be disappointed!

MUST rent this apartment if you are in Paris

I don't know where to begin with our week long rental of Alyssum as every single aspect of the apartment and the service we received was perfect! The pictures are 100% accurate.

This unit in the 5th Ar. is perfectly located: two blocks from the Seine, on the Left Bank across from Isle de la Cite and Notre Dame. There is a Metro stop directly across the street. This is a second floor unit and there is a small, new working elevator plus a staircase. The building is secure and we had a code for the keypad at entry.
Directly downstairs is a fully stocked super market where we bought food daily even if just water and a baguette.
The unit fronts Rue Monge and has a balcony with a table and 2 chairs which we had coffee on each morning. The kitchen is brand new and compares to a mini version of a "chef's kitchen" in America. While we did not actually cook, it was so nice to have wine and cheese in the fridge and coffee at our fingertips. The washer/dryer allowed us to pack light and we did wash 2x in the week.
When you walk in, there is a hallway with high ceilings (the entire apt. has high ceilings) and gorgeous original wood floors. The bathroom is to your left and it qualifies as a good size master bath in any American home with double sinks and a huge shower with great water pressure.
To your right off the hallway is the living room. The couch and chairs were great for relaxing after a long day, the TV gets a number of US channels including CNN and ESPN. The air conditioning is perfect. Behind the couch, there is a table which divides the LR from the kitchen/dining area. The dishwasher was also a great bonus.
At the end of the hall that you walk into is the bedroom. It faces a courtyard and has good light during the day but does have black out shades. The bed is comfortable - better than hotels.
The apartment is just overall perfect and we hope to return.
The management service was also A+. Philippe, Christophe and Marie made our stay easy and they were available for any need (we needed nothing however). For those outside of France, their email communications were fast, easy and always within 24 hours.
Little tips: Rue Mouffard is up the street and is a local shopping area for great cheese, bread, meats, veggies and wine. Some great restaurants at the square at the beginning of this street as well. Always full with Parisians which says a lot.
If you can, rent this apartment! We now would stay nowhere else in Paris!

Perfect Apartment, Ideal Location

  • 5 of 5
This apartment couldn't have been more perfect for our first trip to Paris. We were hoping to feel like Parisians for 10 days and this space made our dreams come true. The location in a residential neighborhood is ideal, far away from the areas highly trafficked by tourists. However, every amenity was available steps from the door and the central placement in the city (not to mention across the street from the metro) put all of Paris easily within reach. We literally walked several arrondissements over the course of our stay! Everything was clean, modern, well-equipped and comfortable. I also can't say enough about how easy Guest Apartment Services was to work with. They took care of our every need, communicated with us thoroughly in advance of our visit, spoke fluent English, and checked on us regularly to be sure all was well. When we return to Paris, this apartment will be on the top of our list!

My husband and I stayed a week in this lovely apartment. It was beautifully furnished and we loved its location. Street noise was occasionally heard but such is the case in any big city. The modern bathroom and plush bedding made our stay very comfortable. The management is top notch.

Absolutely Perfect!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I just returned from a 10 day stay in this apartment. I wanted everything to be "perfect" for him -- he had never been to Paris before and I wanted to insure that he would be willing to return! Everything was beyond what we imagined it would be: The apartment is well-appointed with the sorts of amenities you would need to have. The owners have done a masterful job of renovation. The neighborhood contained all of the types of businesses a visitor could need -- including 2 boulangeries in close proximity. (I highly recommend the one directly across the street, visible from the windows!) In addition, there is a grocery store, a pharmacy, a florist, a newsstand, a butcher shop, and 2 convenient metro stops. The neighbors were quiet but warm and friendly, the street almost impossible to hear from the apartment. Last, but most certainly not the least, the rental agents, Guest Apartments Services Paris were superb -- professional, courteous, welcoming. Also -- an added bonus: Hire Vincent for airport pick-up when Guest Apartment Services offers it to you. He makes your arrival smoother than you could possibly imagine. The only drawback? I wish we had decided to stay longer! But we will return and hopefully Guest Apartment Services and this apartment will be available when we do!

Great place to spend a week (or more) in Paris

  • 5 of 5
The public spaces in the building (entry way, stairs and hallway) could use some work, but the apartment itself is a gem. Beautifully decorated with comfortable furniture. The kitchen and bathrooms are modern, and the bathroom is especially spacious. The bed is a true American king size, and great to sleep in. Great location to walk to many of the destinations you would want to go to, and the closest metro is about 20 feet away. Don't miss the open air market a few blocks away at Place Monge to stock the fridge, or the boulangerie across the street. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The service from the staff at Guest Apartment Services was outstanding.

Owner's Response: Craig--So happy to hear you enjoyed the apartment and location. One of the big reasons we purchased it was its proximity to the two nearby open air markets and the boulangerie across the street! We've been trying to get the public spaces in the building refreshed, and have learned a lot about how slow things happen with Parisian building syndics! You'll be glad to know the update is finally going to happen in 2013 (along with a brand new elevator), so next time you come you can enjoy the progress! Would love to have you back anytime. Edit: All common spaces in the building were fully updated (paint, carpet, tile, lighting, doors, etc.) in 2013.
