Welcome to Nantucket, and a very special community at the head of the harbor. We think this is a wonderful locale, more reminiscent of a relaxed beach summer on Nantucket 40 years ago than the hubbub of today, but updated with cable, high-speed internet, air conditioning, and other amenities.

“Nippanoose” is a simple beach house with beautiful views of Coatue, Great Point and the Upper Harbor. The setting is extremely private, on a five acre property surrounded by 25 acres of conservation land. Yet you will be just steps over a private path to a quiet harbor beach and wonderful boating, down the road from the best windsurfing on Nantucket, and close to the island wide network of bike paths. We are 10 minutes by car and 30 minutes by bike to 'Sconset, the closest island village with shopping, restaurants and a post office. Downtown Nantucket is 15 minutes by car and 45 minutes by bike.

The house tour

The house is a classic “upside down” house, accommodating 10 guests in five bedrooms: a master bedroom suite with queen bed and private bath on the top floor, a queen bedroom and twin/king bedroom with shared bath on the main floor, and a twin/king bedroom, bunkroom and shared bath on the first/ground floor. Fresh, top quality linens, heated towel racks, DVD and CD/iPod players in each bedroom all make for a very pleasant getaway.

The main floor has a large open ''great'' room with cathedral ceilings, including a comfortable living room, dining area, and well equipped kitchen, access to a large wrap around deck (with outdoor shower and gas Weber barbeque), and spectacular views over the salt marshes to the upper harbor. Downstairs there is a rec room with ping pong table, a laundry room with large capacity washer/dryer, and access to the yard and storage for bikes. The house is equipped with everything you need for a total break...and wifi and an office area if you need to work.

Make your visit special

Nippanoose is made for creating special summer memories, or even create a great off-season escape. By special arrangement a boat may be moored just off “your” beach so you can explore Nantucket harbor, or catch fish for dinner that night. A sunfish is on the beach ready for a sail in the protected waters of the upper harbor. Kayaks and bicycles can be delivered to the house, waiting for your arrival. For those crisp Autumn and early winter evenings, there is a hot tub off the deck and a gas fireplace in the great room.

Take advantage of the fact that our family has been summering on Nantucket since 1950, and knows about as well as anyone how to have the perfect visit to the island. Enjoy Nantucket as if your family had been coming for generations.

A wonderful get away!

I don't know where to start. From our initial contact with the owners, we felt welcome, and the house exceeded our expectations! From the beautiful sunsets from the wrap around deck, to the super comfortable bedrooms. The house is just a few minutes walk to a beautiful harbor beach where you can find all sorts of shells, or kayak in the calm waters. We are a family of 5 and had friends visit, and the space was very comfortable. It was great to have the lower level with two bedrooms and a bath which was perfect for the children to claim as "their space", while the adults relaxed upstairs. It is very private, and Pat and David are terrific hosts! Everyone, including our dog, was happy here!

Wonderful week at the beach

Nippanoose was the perfect spot to stay in Nantucket. The beach was a short 3 minute walk away and was beautiful. I had some initial concerns about being on a harbor beach, but what a great choice. You will not miss the large waves at all once you see the lovely views.

The house itself was clean, well appointed and charming - a perfect beach house. It was spaciaous and having the beds and baths located on three levels, never felt croweded. The views from the deck were spectacular and we enjoyed a few lovely sunsets while there. The kitchen was well stocked with many high end finishings. There was plenty of lawn games, beach chairs, boogie boards and beach towels for all to you. We wanted for nothing!

As the first visitors of the season, did have one or two small things pop up: the cable/TV needed to be resynched, the ouside shower was not on, as well a a couple other minor occurances. Pat was absolutely wonderful and immedialty and grasciously helped take care of the issue so we could have an absolutley enjoyable time. She also provided a complete list of wonderful places to eat and sightsee on the island, so our vacation was effortless. I cannot Thanks Pat and David enough for their hospitality and for creating a relaxing, and comfortable vacation home for us to enjoy.

A few recomendations while on Nantucket: rent bikes from youngs - their great and will drop off and pick up. The 4 wheel tour out of the Wauwinet was fun and educational. Barlett Farm is worth the trip and we enjoyed some delicious tomatoes from there, as well as sumptuious desserts. In town, Straight Wharf Tavern has the absolute best Rosemary Biscotti - must have!

If you are considering bringing you dog, Nippanoose is a super spot. It's private and they will enjoy all the yard and beach.

I cannot wait to visit Nantucket again. I will definately call Pat to stay at this wonderful home.
