Apartment, 4 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 7-9)

This is a great flat to visit London from! Just out of central London, still in the borough of Kensington and Chelsea it is located 2 streets from the northern end of the Portobello Road with all its restaurants, coffee bars, interesting shops and market. This is a very eclectic part of London with longstanding local Spanish, Moroccan and Portuguese communities sharing the local facilities with top designers Stella McCartney and Julian Macdonald who both have their design studios nearby. Our current Prime Minister, David Cameron’s family home is just 3 streets away.

This is a big flat, which occupies the upper half of a large town house in Notting Hill, and is spread over 3 floors –quite a lot of stairs! Once you have negotiated the stairs up to the first floor, cross the hallway and you are immediately into the huge, high ceilinged, light filled dining room, kitchen and through sitting room with TV, videos and books. Big sash windows look out over the square. On this floor are a small office, a loo with a view and a fully equipped utility room. A wide staircase takes you up to the next floor with 2 double bedrooms and a very small cot or suitcase room, and bathroom with power shower, whilst the 4th bedroom is up another shorter staircase and comes with a prize for climbing all those stairs - its own en-suite bathroom. The through sitting room on the first floor has a very comfortable double sofa bed and a curtain separates it from the dining room to make a fourth bedroom for large parties and there is another pull out bed in one of the bedrooms on the second floor.

Because it is on a south-facing corner, the flat is very light filled and warm. I have lived here very happily for 15 years and hope to continue doing so but at the moment am taking some time in the country to study ceramics, hence its availability. I have left it comfortably furnished for you; new bed linen and towels, books, DVDs, TV.

Please do take note of the number of stairs. There are stair rails on all but small children who may be unfamiliar with the danger of staircases do need to be supervised.

Local food shopping facilities are good. Apart from the vegetable stalls on the Portobello and Golborne Roads, there is a small supermarket on the way to the underground station, and a huge one a 5-minute walk or bus trip away. (walk there, bus or taxi back with the shopping!)

Excellent transport links make it easy to get into the centre of London; the underground is a 3minute walk away with trains direct to Paddington Station where the Heathrow Express goes direct to Heathrow airport. Frequent buses from Ladbroke Grove go direct to Oxford Street and the British Museum; Piccadilly; Knightsbridge and the museums of South Kensington, (V&A, Science Museum and the Natural History Museums), Kensington Palace and the Royal Parks of Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park, St Paul’s Cathedral; the City of London, Tate Modern, Trafalgar Square.

There are excellent bus and underground links with Paddington Station and Victoria Station; from here fast trains go direct to Heathrow and Gatwick airports. Also nearby is the Westfield London shopping complex (2 stops on the underground or a short bus ride) with 250 shops under one roof, cinema complex, bars etc.

The beautiful Kensington Memorial Park off St Marks Road is 10 minutes walk from the property, a great place to go for a quiet walk and for the kids to run free (3 very modern adventure play areas).

Fantastic rental, perfectly situated!!!

We traveled to London from the USA to find this gem of a rental property. This house was perfect for our family of five, offering plenty of room for us all to move around comfortably, and lots of light to fill the place.

The property manager couldn't have been more helpful-- he arranged transport from the airport to the house, answered a myriad of questions before our arrival, was there at the house when we got there and came promptly at the end of our stay to return the security deposit.

The beds were incredibly comforable, no supplies were lacking, the bathrooms were pristine, and the entire place neat and clean. You also can't beat the location. It's one block off a main road but you couldn't hear too much traffic noise and it is just a few minute walk to the ladbroke grove tube station. We also found plenty of buses that dropped us off just 1/2 block from the house. There is a great playground 2 blocks away which was perfect for the kids, and a couple of smaller grocery stores near the tube station that had everything we needed for food.

All in all, this rental was fantastic and I would recommend it to absolutely anyone who is visiting London!

A Little Tired and Lacks Hospitality

Two families rented this place for a week during Thanksgiving. As others have noted communication with the property manager is a bit difficult and it may be days before you hear anything. We were greeted promptly by the property manager but we should have known when the front of the building was overgrown with shrubbery and when we opened the front door there was months of mail just laying around on the floor and propped on the window that the place wasn't well taken care of. Let me address both the positives and negatives.

Positives: Beds are comfortable. Plenty of towels for the 9 of us. Walking distance to Portobello Rd and the Underground.

Negatives: There was no toilet paper, paper towels, dish washing soap, etc. The apartment had a fine layer of dust through out it but there were cleaning supplies so that we could vacuum and clean. The place could use a good cleaning and perhaps some paint. Day 2 we lost hot water and heat and had to wait until 5:00 p.m. to get it back and even then we had to chase down the property manager to find out if it was fixed. He never called us back to tell us what was going on. Your introduction to the area by the owner is an old binder with a note saying that the neighbors were robbed a few weeks ago so please make sure that you lock the door as well as some menus from local restaurants.

Overall, I was disappointed in the lack of hospitality and supplies. Having rented from numerous owners on VRBO all over the world this one could really use some help. We never expect the owners to supply everything but at least the bare essentials until you can get to the store. Fortunately for the next renters we restocked everything and left the house better than when we got there.

We stayed here with kids at October 1/2 term. House very clean and beautifully furnished with a really comfortable feel. Stairs to top room are very steep but kids loved staying up there! The bus stop at the end of the road made it very easy to get into the city or connect to tube. Owner has carefully considered her guests and we didn't have to contact the agent all week as everything was well explained and provided. Beds also really comfortable & no traffic noise.Would highly recommend this house and would stay here again.
