The house is a bright, newly remodelled 3 bedroom home near the Siesta Beaches. This property is nestled in a quiet community a 15 minute walk or 3 minute drive from the white sands of Siesta Key and 4 blocks from the shops, restaurants and boat rentals of Stickney Point Bridge area. There are plenty of good restaurants, cafes, pizza,ice cream and boat and bike rentals within walking distance.

This home is situated on a large (just under 0.4 acre) property with a big fenced-in, grass backyard. Kids and dogs love the safe environment in which to play as adults watch from the large (12' x 25') screened lanai, kitchen, or great room. Two bedrooms (1 with a queen bed and the other with two twin beds) and a full bath are on one side of the house. A large (13' X 23') and open great room is in the middle with a view of the backyard and the lanai through French doors. The master suite (13' x 26') with king bed, and large shower-bath is on the other side of the home. The kitchen and Lanai are on the back, off the great room. The home has all new ceramic tile floor, new furniture, a new, fully-functional kitchen with granite counters and center Island, broadband internet, WiFi, and even a printer.

We remodelled this place specifically as a bright and airy Siesta Key-style beach house in 2010. It is designed to accommodate our family and mini-doxies in carefree, tasteful and low maintenance living. We have tried to make this a turn-key place for visitors to enjoy, from coffee grinders to hairdryers to beach toys, we have outfitted it for our use and yours. There is also a guest book, that we and visitors update with menus and brochures from local sites and vendors, including such things as rentals for cribs, baby strollers and sports equipment. There are several places to setup an 'office' for those who can't get completely away from work.

There are so many different things to do in Sarasota, from the art scene to golf to the circus museum with it's million-piece miniature circus display, circus classes for kids in the summer, fishing, shelling, more excellent restaurants than you could visit in a month, good bookstores (both new and used), and of course, all the water sports and the best beach in the world. The neighborhood is a great bike riding and walking area.

This property is located across the Intercoastal Waterway from Siesta Key on Border Lane (off Beechwood Ave.), which means you can visit the beaches without having to put up with traffic on the only two bridges, it is a quieter location, and the price is right. An advantage of single family homes in this area is that you are not limited to a single car as with most beach condos, and we accept dogs.

There is a local management company 5 blocks away (on the way to the beach) that will take care of your needs and of course, you can always contact us anytime by phone or email with problems, suggestions or feedback.

I was born and raised on Siesta Key. Two blocks away (VRBO listing #193893) is a new house on property in my family since to 50's. We live in California now, but visit Sarasota several times a year. We took a very active role in the remodel of this house so that it would suit our needs as well as yours.

Why Bill Archibald chose Sarasota

The location is ideal because it is just OFF the Key to avoid heavy summer/winter traffic, but within easy walking distance of Siesta Key beaches, boat and bike rentals, and several very good restaurants, especially for breakfast. The beaches are a 15 minute walk or 4 minute drive.

If you don't know about Siesta Key you should Google it, because it is stupendous and way too much to describe here. However, I'll add that building sand 'drip castles' on this beach is something every one from 2 to 92 should do at least once in this life.

We bought and remodelled this house in 2010 to be another ideal Florida beach house. We live in California, and we made sure the house is fully outfitted so there is no need for us to bring anything with us on the plane.

For us this is a place to go to 'decompress' and relax. We think the beaches are the best in the world, and that big back yard is so quiet and relaxing. There is always some part of the yard in shade and some in sun, so we each have our favorite spots. When we finally get a good dose of relaxing on the beach, on the lanai, in the yard, or on a boat, there are so many things to do nearby the biggest problem is which?

What makes this house unique

Beaches. Relaxation. Warm weather. Good books (great used book store on Siesta Key). Good restaurants. Magnificent beaches. The Purple People Eater (Van Wezel Peforming Arts Hall...which is purple). Sailor Circus. Boat rentals and coffee shops within walking distance. Really magnificant beaches.

Perfect Vacation Oasis

I stayed here for a couple of months and couldn't have felt more at home in this bright and cheery house! The house is welcoming and warm, and has everything that made for a comfortable stay, including a large TV, DVD p!ayer, CD p!ayer, all necessary kitchen utensils, a hairdryer, a fast internet connection and even a printer, which was such a great surprise.

I felt very safe in the neighborhood, which is conveniently located close to both Siesta Key Beach and Turtle Beach, as well as shopping galore. I often walked or biked to the beach to watch the sunsets. At the house, I would sit in the spacious screened-in lanai in the mornings and enjoy the beautiful singing of all the birds.

One of the best features of the home is the extremely large, fenced-in yard, which my dog thoroughly enjoyed. The yard has mature landscaping and is well-maintained.

The master bedroom is very spacious, with a very comfortable king-sized bed. The master bathroom is large, and has a beautiful walk-in shower with two shower heads.

To top it off, the owner of this property is kind, responsive, informative, and extremely easy to work with.

I couldn't have asked for a better home during my stay, and so wholeheartedly recommend this vacation home. It's a real gem and, as I titled my review, a perfect vacation oasis!

Winter Retreat

My wife and I have stayed at this rental for the last two years, March 2012, and two weeks in April 2013. It is everything as stated in VRBO and more. The pictures and description are 100% accurate. We felt very comfortable in this home. The neighborhood is quiet. The kitchen was fully equipped, the bed was good and firm, the internet was there as well as the wide screen television. Our two dogs especially enjoyed the large, secure, fenced in yard that has an abundance of song birds and squirrels.

We had bicycles and that really made getting to the beach very easy. The car traffic to Siesta Key during peak Spring time is huge. Bikes make the access much easier. We recommend bringing bikes or renting them when you arrive. They really expand the ease of getting to local restaurants and shopping. There are numerous terrific restaurants and groceries within a mile.

We found the owner, Bill, to be a helpful and generous person. He has personal history of his family in that area of Florida, and he is very proud of his rental. He has prepared a book with helpful information regarding the house and local attractions. During both of our stays at his rental, he gave us some leeway on arrival and departure dates and times to accommodate our needs at no additional charge! We were very impressed. The local management company that coordinates all of the rental activity has a great manager, Kate. She is terrific in answering any and all questions.

When one looks at websites of potential rentals with great descriptions and beautiful pictures, there is always a doubt whether everything is accurate. If you are lucky enough to be able to rent this house, rest assured that it is everything it says it is. We heartily recommend this rental.

Great Value, Space and Location (1 Mile from the Beach) for the Money

We rented this VRBO for 3 months. This is a charming house with an awesome lanai in a great location for beach lovers. We would walk to the beach some mornings and drive to the beach other mornings for a different beach access - where there were less shells and more powdery sand. Everything we needed was in this rental house except our toothbrushes and toothpaste. We selected this rental because were trying to find a permanent house in Florida, but we also wanted to enjoy the beach while we took our time looking (Siesta Key Beach is wonderful). This was the perfect combination, and Bill, the owner, was a pleasure to work with. He was very helpful in telling us about the area, which is close to shopping, restaurants and the beach; he is a genuinely nice guy who really wants you to be comfortable in your stay. The rental had beach towels, beach chairs, and all the amenities of home. The screened lanai is spacious and even has a grill and numerous chairs for cookouts. If you have a dog, it will enjoy the nice sized fenced yard to play fetch and run about. The home was renovated very nicely, and the kitchen and master bedroom are newer with nice touches. The other two bedrooms are original, but still nice. This was a treat for our family as we had looked at a different rental on Siesta Key Island, and it was not nearly as nice or well maintained as this rental. The yard maintenance personnel mowed and pruned every Monday without fail (the other rental property we viewed expected the tenants to pay utilities and maintain the yard - we thought that was ridiculous since it was a VACATION rental--who wants to work while vacationing?!?). The only thing I would say that could be seen as a con is that there are beautifully maintained homes throughout this neighborhood, but there are also some that need to be renovated and given TLC. I would definitely recommend this rental home to family or friends.

Owner's Response: It has to be complete, since we use it too, several times a year and we fly in from the San Francisco area. We don't even have to bring a stack of books, with Used Book Heaven in Siesta Village, and one of the county libraries nearby in Gulf Gate. The library does charge $15 for a 3 month card for us non-residents, but as much as we read when away from the do-lists at home, it is a real bargin.

As is sometimes the case, our recent visit to one of our other places in the neighborhood overlapped with these folks, so we got to meet them. What a delight it is to find out first hand why people are moving into the area, or why they picked Sarasota for a vacation.

Perfect location and ammenities!

My family and I stayed at this lovely house for approximately two weeks in April 2012; 6 of us total: 4 adults, one preschooler, and one toddler. The house suited our needs perfectly; the owner and management company were eager to help and recommend activities for a great Sarasota experience.

The house is in a great location. We walked to the beach every morning and enjoyed the close proximity to downtown Sarasota and Siesta Key Village. There is so much to do in the area and it a refreshing break from the typical Disney-esque Florida vacation. But, even if you did want that you are still just a car drive from Tampa/Disney. Personally, we enjoyed having that option but didn't feel the need, as there is so much to do in the immediate area: beautiful beaches, state parks, children friendly outdoor spaces (playgrounds and parks), child venues (Mota aquarium, Big Cat rescue - highly recommend), and plenty of adult and kid exploring in general. We also enjoyed Simon's (walking distance) for lunch and breakfast and Selva Grill for a downtown dinner date night ;).

The house itself didn't lack a thing- had all you needed and more to enjoy a vacation: clean and well-maintained. The backyard is relaxing- birds and great landscaping with a fence to hold in wound up children (although my daughter enjoyed the lanai the most- plenty of room to put on her dance shows while we enjoyed an outdoor dinner)! I would definitely recommend this rental to just about anyone!

Incredibly Delightful Place for an Extended Vacation

We spent a month living in the property and found that the owners had thought of everything we needed for a carefree and comfortable stay. The kitchen is well-stocked for preparing in-house meals and the spacious, thoughtful layout of the kitchen-great room area was perfect for entertaining when our adult kids and/or friends came to visit. The split floor plan, with guests on one side of the house and the master bedroom on the other, offered privacy when needed.

The fenced-in yard enable us to let our lab roam and also offered privacy for sitting in the sun ourselves at those times we decided not to go to the beach.

We can't emphasize enough how convenient getting to the Crescent Beach part of Siesta Key was. A half-mile walk through a quiet neighborhood puts you at the drawbridge and then another half-mile up and over the intracoastal waterway puts you at water's edge. And parking is available as well, especially for those times we raced down to catch the sunset. For those that haven't visited this portion of Siesta Key, the beach is unbelievable for walking. There are actually quite a few homes on Siesta Key itself that are a farther walk from the beach than the Border Lane property is.

As noted on VRBO, all the shopping you could possibly need to do was also within minutes of the house. Location, location, location truly applies in this instance.

Owner's Response: When we remodelled this house, we took into account 25 years of our own rentals of other people's property for vacations. My own pet peeve was having to move heavy furniture to get at enough wall outlets to keep our widgets charged, or so much furniture you can't move around. All three of our places here are designed specifically for renters who are (mostly) on vacation. Sounds like it is working...

There is SO much to do here, even beyond the world's best beach and glorious sunsets. Aside from the usual, see dolphin, manatees, feed flamingoes from your hand, pet sea life at the Mote Marine Labs, take in a small circus. Or take in one of the first-rate performances at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center (primarily in the winter). There are too many really good restuarants to visit even in a month. Venture a little farther and take an airboat ride on the Everglades or visit Disney World.
