My husband and I have spent our working lives in the building industry and in education.
We enjoy shopping by scooter at the Victoria market and selecting fresh, local produce to use in cooking for ourselves, family and friends. Breakfasts by the bay and having coffee around our local area are very enjoyable particularly with the days newspaper at hand .We also like cycling along the Yarra river or taking our bikes on the train across the bay to Williamstown.
Theatre productions, art exhibitions as well as sporting events are also activities we appreciate as city dwellers.
We both really appreciated being in the centre of a city when we travelled overseas so when we became empty nesters we decided to move into the city ourselves- downsize our home but upsize our ability to access all the activities that citylife has to offer.
From our front door we can walk metres to a small corner park , two coffee shops and the Nth Melbourne Station.
A 10 minute walk and we are in Docklands and Harbour Town shopping precinct. Airport connections via the shuttle bus are also available minutes away.
Its a well located home from which we can attend exhibitions, theatre productions, sports stadiums, restaurants as well as shopping precints and great beaches around the bay. All of these are available using several modes of transport.
Our Property, which is also our home, is located in the western section of the city of Melbourne.
Its often described in real estate as being 'villagey eclectic and groovey'
The area features many styles of housing from workers cottages to period homes to warehouse conversions all revealing the development of Melbourne from the Gold Rush days of the 1800s.
Our street has over the years been a movie set for Australian movie series such as 'Underbelly' and the police series 'Rush' as well as featuring in commercials. The movie location offices and sets are centred in Harbour Town in the Docklands precinct.
One of the pleasing aspects of this street is that the planetrees provide a welcome canopy of large green leaves- not only an attractive streetscape but a welcome relief on hot summer days. Some days when the hustle and bustle of the city has died down, the stillness of the location is punctuated with the sounds of birds in the planetrees making it feel like an oasis, indeed a country town in the city!
There are many modes of transport from your front door- from walking into the CBD, to taking a bike from the station, hopping on a train or a free circle tram at the end of the street.
We are situated within walking distance to the Harbour Town shopping complex which houses the Southern Star giant ferris wheel, which can be observed from our street. From Docklands there are water craft shuttles in the summer months which take passengers around the harbour into the Yarra river and city centre and on to the historic suburb of Williamstown.
The main events on Melbournes calendar can be viewed on the website - thatsmelbourne.com.au and while visitors to the city often have a good idea of what they want to do and see this site can perhaps add an activity not thought of before arriving.
The Australian Tennis Open, Grand Prix,Theatre and Art exhibitions are minutes away as is the International Spring Racing Carnival.Etihad stadium is located at the end of the street and is the home of all sports and big Concert performances. All football/ rugby sporting events are easily accessible from here.
Restaurants in Errol St precinct are recommended for breakfasts and great coffee places are Auction Rooms and Di Bellas in Raglan Lane- not forgetting Jimmys which is a stroll down the street from the front door.Amiconis is an iconic Italian restaurant also worth a mention for dinner as is The Libertine for French dining.
The Crown casino is located on the Yarra River which connects to the Southgate Complex in the city and well worth a look for its restaurants and shopping
