We travelled extensively to find a haven from the Canadian winters. We discovered Costa Rica in 1992, and immediately bought our vacation property. We commenced building the casa when we retired in 2006, and completed it in 2007.
Jacqueline Franks purchased this house in 2007
We finally found the perfect paradise, adorned with extensive variety of beautiful beaches, flora and fauna unique to this beautiful country.
Horseback riding, sea kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, 4-wheeling, whale watching, monkey-watching, bird-watching, butterfly-watching, canopy touring, world-renowned deep-sea fishing are just some of the activities available in the area.
Our stay at the Casa de la Loma was the highlight of the trip and we had a superb time there. Ana and Freddie were absolutely adorable and took great care of us. They were truly wonderful people. Ana's cooking was to die for!!!
The location, though a little remote, was incredibly beautiful and we did see many different birds, monkeys and even whales the day before we left. The quickest way to get to Puerto Carillo from San Jose was to fly to Punta Islita "airport"...a tiny shack and not a flight for the faint-hearted in a small propeller aircraft but it took only 35 mins. We then drove from there , guided to the house by Max Castillo from the Samara Alamo Rental on a dirt road actually driving through a river (pretty exciting and only possible doing the dry season) taking about 45 mins. Not crossing the river will add another hour to the journey. A 4x4 is not really needed to drive up the hill to the house though this would certainly not be true in the rainy season when the roads are muddy.

I would like to start my review with the great communication between Jacquie and myself. Jacquie was a delight to work with and very caring and helpful. Whenever I asked her a question she answered me very promptly and had all my questions address. She takes the worry out of renting a home and makes sure to put your mind at ease.
I personally had high expectations of what I wanted in a home for my family and I on our trip to Costa Rica. This was the second trip for me and my families first and I wanted it to be special. When we arrived to Casa de la Loma and Ana and Freddie greeted us I knew right then it was going to be special. Ana made everything feel just like home for us from the home cooked meals, making beds, laundry and wonderful conversations. Ana and Freddie were very helpful with questions we had about the home and what to do in the area. Ana was very helpful setting up excursions for all of us along with telling us where to find the store, butcher, fish market and ect. Ana is a amazing cook with a great smile to go with her amazing cooking. The home itself was beautiful with a pool to die for. The pool was so amazing it was hard to get my family out of it some days. I heard over and over "wow" this is truly paradise with amazing views that take your breath away.
We will definitely be back to enjoy more of the tranquil environment that Casa de la Loma offers. I will end by saying that the home and Ana and her family made it a perfect ~Pura Vida~ experience. My family and I meet friends for life.
We had the pleasure to stay here for a week and from the moment we walked in we were amazed. From Ana and Freddie's warm welcome to the absolutely stunning views this home offers. The pictures do not do the place any justice as it is much better in person. Ana's cooking is amazing, her personality is so infectious and she is great to be around. The location is perfect (close to beaches), Ana cooking and attention to detail is perfect, and the house is perfect. Thanks Ana for one of the most memorable and enjoyable vacations ever. We WILL be BACK!!!
The photos here do not do justice to this place! My family and I were here for 7 days and every day was wonderful! The views, the house, the amenities and most especially Ana were amazing! The house has things you wouldn't expect i.e. Lots of music cd's that we enjoyed by the pool, boogie boards and beach chairs to take to the beach, hammocks for relaxing in, I could go on and on! This place won't disappoint! And Ana! Absolutely wonderful! I hope the owners realize what a gem she is! Her cooking rivals any restaurant ,she did our laundry (even before we left so we brought home clean laundry!) and she was so patient with the kids! One of, if not THE best vacation ever!
This property is in a great location close enough to the beaches, restaurants and bars but secluded. The property is maintained extremely well by the caretaker/chef family and the owner is very helpful and accommodating. i would say the photos do not do the house justice as it is nicer live than it appears here. The close by Zip Lining in Samara beach is lots of fun, there is a small zoo/animal rescue center in Carillo that is fun to visit and the fishing in this area is excellent.
This was our second time staying at the Casa and it's just as wonderful the second time around. The location is perfect and close to the beaches and all the amenities. The house is absolutely gorgeous. The view is breathtaking and we never wanted to leave the pool. What made it even more special is that Ana and Freddy made us feel like family. So warm and loving and the meals were delicious as always. I'm sure we'll be back for round three.
