Rainbow Bay Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 queen bed master suites, sleeps 4, 5th person allowed if it is a small child

Once you rent our cozy cottage in Rainbow Bay on the island of Eleuthera, Bahamas you'll want to return to this island of natural beauty and warm, friendly people. Tranquil Seas is a comfy smoke-free cottage (smoking allowed outside) with Indonesian decor and bamboo matting on walls/ceilings, tiled countertops, Bali wood doors and bamboo trim. A full separate laundry room is an added bonus that you don't find in many vacation homes on the island. We have completed lots of upgrades to the cottage that we know you will appreciate.

There is a master bedroom with full bath and walk-in closet at each end of the house providing privacy if you wish to share the cost with friends, as well as an outside shower. Each bedroom has flat screen tv with dvd player. Flat screen in living room with dvd player and satellite programming. It is perfect for families or as a romantic getaway, Eleuthera is a wonderful place for couples because intimacy is easily obtained; no crowds, no jet skiis, no speed boats or people trying to sell you things on the beach. It's the perfect place to do as little or as much as you wish.

It is one of very few properties on the entire island with incredible panoramic views of both the Atlantic and the Caribbean side so you can sit on the front porch with your morning coffee and watch the sun rise and sit on the back porch in the evening with a frosty cold island drink and watch the sun set. Leave the sliding doors open in the bedrooms at night to catch the soft breeze, the sound of the surf, and see the cruise ships lit up in all of their glory cruising the Atlantic. Wake up to views of the sea without lifting your head off of the pillow. Gorgeous wide open water views from every room, you can see both seas at once from some rooms in the house.

Because of the close proximity of the ocean, cross breezes keep the cottage cool plus there are ceiling fans in each room and air conditioning for warm days/nights. Short walks will take you to beautiful picture-postcard secluded beaches, each with it's own unique beauty. Two sea kayaks are available for your unlimited use during your stay at no extra cost which is a big bonus since the kayak rental fee on the island is pricey.

The cottage is centrally located to enable you to explore north to south more easily. There are quaint little shops to browse in and even a cinema showing the lastest films. You can rent a surfboard in Gregorytown and you will see a very good variety of sea life while snorkeling. The area immediately south of Current cut is one of the best places for snorkeling/diving ever. It is not unusual to see stingrays, squid, spiney lobster, many parrot fish, angelfish as well as lionfish, turtles and dolphins. Eleuthera has the best beaches in the Bahamas and you may not see another person while enjoying the sand, surf and sun since Eleuthera has an abundance of them.

Car rental is about $420 per week and we can give advice on booking flights (the closest airport is Governor's Harbour). You can fly direct from Ft. Lauderdale with Silver airlines or from Miami with American Eagle.

Check out lots more photos of the cottage, beaches and the island - ask us for our link to the website. We know that you'll love this island and our home as much as we do! It's the place to escape from it all to restore your spirit and soothe your soul.

Visit the fish fry in Governor's Harbour on friday nights for good food, drink, and dancing in the street. Fun for all, meet lots of people from the world over. Make memories that will last a life time! We make it a quick, easy transition into island mode for you by providing many amenities. Questions welcome, we love to talk about Eleuthera!

About David & Carlene Pearsall

We are a couple in our early 60's who live in the Northeast USA and who discovered Eleuthera and can't get enough of it. We want others to share in the warmth of the people and the natural beauty of the island. We discovered the natural beauty of Eleuthera and its people and fell in love with a piece of paradise. Nothing better than sitting in the front porch rockers reading while listening to the waves roll in and to see the gorgeous streaks of turquoise in the deep blue water. The view from the back porch is of the much calmer brilliant turquoise water, so different from the front.

David & Carlene Pearsall purchased this cottage in 2004

Why David & Carlene Pearsall chose Rainbow Bay

We love this property because of the incredible views of the two totally different seas and it's proximity to the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen. It is a great place to unwind and slow down the pace from the hectic life styles that most working people endure in every day life. Sit back, relax and let the ocean views calm you.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We didn't want to leave Eleuthera, the sun, the gorgeous beaches, warm temps and your cozy island home. Things were perfect, the house was very clean and Laura was very nice and helpful. Loved having the kayaks and the snorkel gear, beach chairs and other items were a bonus! Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Excellent vacation

  • 5 of 5

This cottage had it all. You could be as adventurous as you pleased or as lazy as you wished. We had a great vacation on the island of Eleuthera. Everyone was extremely accommodating and owners provided much information that aided in trip planning. I highly recommend this property and will be planning a trip to go back in the future.

Wonderful stay all around!

We loved our stay on Eleuthera and the Tranquil Seas cottage was perfect for us. The cottage is situated on a hill between the Atlantic and Caribbean so that any afternoon when it was hot on the Caribbean side, the front porch was perfect- an Atlantic breeze, rocking chairs under the shade of palm trees - idyllic. With 3 teen daughters with us, freedom was key, so having a short path to the the beach on the calm Caribbean side made us pretty worry-free. Also, Dave and Carlene leave the kayaks locked at the beach so you don't have to carry them there, we just walked down with the oars each day - this beach and kayaking was our "filler" activity any time we weren't out exploring other beaches and sights which made the vacation as full as we wanted. There was also snorkel gear for 4+ in one of the closets - again, making access to daily fun as convenient as one could ask for. The cottage also has a washing machine/dryer, everything you need to cook/dine in. Laura the caretaker, and her husband, were also so helpful - they're just across the street and rented us their car, got us 2 bikes to use for the week, and answered all of our questions. Laura even picked us up at the airport and giving us the local take on where to go, etc. She is wonderful! As for Eleuthera...paradise. Every day was in the upper 70s, Caribbean water temp about 70, crystal clear water, fish, starfish, sand dollars, sting rays, shells, everything amazing. Our favorites were the Rainbow Inn pizza night/music, Ten Bay Beach, Lighthouse Beach (although road is bad - we were lucky to have Laura's suv that sits higher off the road), Rainbow Beach (again, our daily...and beautiful sailboats from around the world anchor there some nights...we know because Alex would kayak out to say hi !) , Hatchet Bay caves (although a little spooky :)), the color of the water down near Tippy's in Gov's Harbour, Tippy's, the Island Made gift shop in Gregory Town (nice owner!!), and so much more. As our teenagers said, "this was the best vacation EVER: -- so many thanks to Dave, Carlene and Laura for the great spot from which we enjoyed so much -

Perfect Winter Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I had been planning to visit the Bahamas for 2 years...specifically a location far from over-crowded tourist traps and resorts. Eleuthera is just the perfect island for that. The beaches are stunning and mostly empty. We enjoyed kayaking and snorkeling almost everyday, just minutes from the cottage. The local Bahamians are the friendliest, most helpful people you can meet. Everyone we spoke to were more than willing to help us in any way they could. The fresh seafood and produce are delicious, and our favorite meal was dinner at The Front Porch - Francis took great care of us! We visited Governor's Harbor Town for the Friday night Fish Fry, which was so fun; and we also took a drive and ferry ride to see the beautiful pink sands on Harbor Island.

Carlene and Dave's cottage is just beautiful, very comfortable, and well-stocked. I love to cook and had everything I needed, and then some. Carlene was extremely helpful in the weeks leading up to our trip. It is worthwhile to ask her as many questions as you can think of, and she will provide lots of detail to help eliminate any guesswork and make the most of your trip. Her nieghbor, Laura, was also extremely helpful. We rented a vehicle from her, and she was just across the road if we had any questions.

We loved everything about this trip!

I plan to visit Eleuthera again and stay in this wonderful cottage.

Thank you again, Carlene and Dave!

Owner's Response: A big THANK YOU for your wonderful review. The two of you were the perfect guests. We prefer people to ask any questions that they can think of because it helps them in the long run since Eleuthera is not a "touristy" destination. So glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you back again!

Nice place, questionable country

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for a week April 2014. The owner is wonderful and the house-keeper lives next door and is also extremely nice and very helpful. We had repeated electrical issues and Laura (the housekeeper) called the electric department to help works things our. The place is in good shape and I really appreciated the relatively new sliders and windows. Salt does a number on windows- you could still see through these and the screens were effective at keeping the bugs out. The sound and view of the ocean are lovely. the front and rear porches are a wonderful respite. There's usually a strong breeze and we never used the (somewhat quirky) AC units. the nearby caribeean beach is lovely to hang out and swim. My general issue is with the island and the country overall. I'm not one to expect everything to be "US-like", but come prepared to see lots of garbage, a lack of road signs, nasty back roads (if you want to find some beaches) and very little fresh food. We don't plan to go back for these reasons. But if you mainly value uncrowded beaches (often with lots of rocks) and quiet, the place is a good choice. I will add that there are lots of neighbors, so the house is not really very private. It did not bother me, but don't expect isolation. We had friends who stayed at the nearby Rainbow Inn. They have cottages where you can cook. I would recommend comparing prices. Overall, the cottage and the owner are wonderful. The island and country I can do without.

Owner's Response: So sorry to hear that your stay wasn't all that you hoped it would be. Just want to make a note that the electrical problems were not a result of anything within the house but a problem of the electrical company's bad connections out on the pole which as you said, our caretaker/manager promptly addressed. So very glad that you were pleased with the new sliding doors which were replaced just a month before your stay and yes, every window and door in the house has been replaced in the last 6 years,(another result of the salt water environment). We are glad that you found the house to be wonderful (an email kudos from you for the well stocked kitchen was so appreciated)! Thank you! As you have discovered Eleuthera is not a "touristy" destination in which the beaches and roads are well groomed. People go to Eleuthera to get away from the crowds and to experience the "real" Bahamas where you will frequently find that you are the only ones on the beach rather than having to rise at 5 am to save a beach chair (been there, done that). That is exactly why we bought the house there, the lack of crowds overall. Thank you for choosing our home and for your very nice comments about our home and our housekeeper. As the saying goes? : Eleuthera is not for everyone...

Our Second Stay at Tranquil Seas

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Tranquil Seas Cottage twice now - once two years ago, and we have just returned from our second visit. We have traveled to other places in the Caribbean, but the island of Eleuthera really is one of our favorite spots! It may not be for everyone (do your research before you go), but there is no lack of beautiful beaches (with hardly a soul on them), great snorkeling, crystal clear calm water and friendly people. Our two visits to Eleuthera have been completely different. Two years ago, we happened to visit during Hurricane Irene, which hit the island pretty hard. We were not able to leave the island, had to board up the cottage, sit tight and ride out the storm. We were a little nervous (and annoyed about our ruined vacation), but ready for for an experience. We made it through (it was a long night), had no power the rest of our trip (3 days) and ran out of running water our last day there. With that being said, THERE IS NO OTHER COTTAGE I WOULD HAVE RATHER STAYED AT DURING THAT TIME!! The owners, Dave and Carlene were nothing but helpful! They made sure we had everything we could possibly need to make it through the storm and the rest of the week. Also, the caretaker for the house, Laura, went above and beyond for us all week! The cottage did not have wi-fi and phone at the time, and Laura actually took us to her house so we could call the airline and family. She is a sweetheart! This time around our trip went nice and smooth and we had a relaxing week! Tranquil Seas has pretty much everything you would ever need for a comfortable stay. The cottage is clean and even though it's a smaller cottage, it doesn't feel crowded. The two bedrooms and bathrooms are on each side of the house so everyone has their own space. The wi-fi works great. I was expecting it to be slow on the island, but this was not the case. The kitchen is well equipped with anything you need to cook a meal. They have everything you need for a day at the beach as well - beach bags, snorkel gear, beach chairs, coolers and kayaks. Carlene is always so nice, helpful, and prompt with answering any questions you may have about the island as well. I could not recommend this cottage enough and hope to make a third visit sometime in the future!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your wonderful review! And you folks are wonderful! You took care of our home before, during and after a hurricane, and that went above and beyond what we expect guests to do! Thank you!!!!!

Such.s great vacation. We had never been to Eleuthera but we will go back and stay at Dave and Carlene's . There is nothing lacking at their wonderful cottage. We had rain but there is a great selection of movies and. games . You can drink your coffee in the am on the front porch and watch the Caribbean and have a drink in the evening on the back porch and watch the Atlantic. We never had to use ac - just open the doors and keep the ceiling fans on Carlene is wonderful to work with. Very prompt in returning emails. The people of Eleuthera are all tour guides - so helpful. Wonderful experience !

Being almost centrally located on the island is a big bonus, making it easy to explore from north to south. Wide open ocean views, two completely different looking seas, are the best feature of this cozy home. Sit on the front porch with your morning coffee and on the back porch with a cold cocktail or brew and enjoy the surf of the Atlantic side or the calm turquoise waters of the Caribbean side, so different in their beauty; second street back from the water of each shore.

See the ocean without having to lift your head off of the pillow. Rockers and hammock chairs make it a relaxing stay. Do as little or as much as you want. The island, with it's natural beauty and friendly people, is a great place to explore. Every beach is different from the last, every turn in the road brings new unforgettable vistas and fun in the sun.

Take out the sea kayaks to explore the water and have even more adventure by exploring on land. An auto is a must to get around. Snorkeling on Eleuthera is so much better than you may have experienced elsewhere because there haven't been any crowds to spoil or damage the reefs like in places full of tourists.

The cottage will fit all of your needs, from a laundry room to a kitchen stocked with every appliance that you will find in your own home.

Two master suites serve well for comfort and convenience. Each bedroom has flat screen tv with dvd player. We believe in making your stay as easy as possible. We also provide beach chairs, beach towels, beach umbrella, snorkel gear, floats, koozies, coolers, ice blocks, and a picnic pack. Just bring your clothes and personal items!

The cottage has satellite tv with sirius/XM radio, WIFI internet, cell and land phones for your use, great movie selection, books for adults and children, games, playing cards, puzzle books and jigsaw puzzles, plus other amenities that you don't find in other vacation homes.

We will provide you with a lot of information about the cottage, the island, other islands you may want to visit, where to get groceries, sites to see, things to do, auto rental suggestions, etc.

You'll find sand, sun and fun at our island home on Eleuthera!
