Guestbook comments from the manager
Kelly stayed in the Fillmore Flat for Designtripper, a blog about unique places to stay around the world.

"The Fillmore Flat has a quintessential, postcard-y San Francisco vibe in the Duboce Traingle/Lower Haight. The neighborhood gave us the opportunity to walk to and explore nearby Alamo Square, Buena Vista, Hayes Valeey, the Castro and Dolores park. It was so nice to return to the art-filled apartment, tucked into the second floor of a Victorian home, which doubles as a gallery when no one's renting it. Our favorite seat in the house: a custom- built, pillow-covered window bench with a perfect view of the quiet, tree lined street below."

I've lived in many neighborhoods in San Francisco but this is my favorite! It really is in the heart of San Francisco. Because I love this neighborhood, I volunteer for weekly clean and green projects, plan community events and encourage neighborhood engagement. When I decided to renovate one of the flats to a short term rental, I was excited that others besides my friends and family would experience a friendly, cultural SF while visiting famous tourist attractions with the ease of walking or catching a bus one block away. The flat has local artists showing their art work in a home environment; all the art work is for sale. I live in the building and care about the property and comfort of each guest. I also have a wonderful and attentive Manager; by the name of David who lives in the building too. Both he and I look forward to your memorable stay.

LOVED IT

We had a great stay in the apartment. Close to transportation and good neighborhood. The Thai restaurant across the street is great and there is a nice breakfast cafe with a nice French feeling on the corner. The apartment was really well equipped and well payed out.

Everything was great at this place. The flat is lovely. Talking with Vallie was easy, she always answered quickly o all our questions. The neighborhood is just a great place to stay in SF. We would definitely love to come back there during our next trip in SF.

AWESOME FLAT

  • 5 of 5
What a fabulous stay we had at this lower Haight Victorian flat. Spacious, hip and fun. Very clean and mind cleansing for me and the baby (I brought my 4 month old). See, we are surrounded by toys and do-dads at home and it was great getting lost in the crisp white sheets while gazing at the paintings. We loved sitting in the bay window and watching the city go by. The street corner is super clean and there are potted plants all around, making the exterior of the building incredibly cute. Thank you for the coffee and the use of the washer. Hopefully we can stay there again. Perhaps without the kid so we can enjoy some of the lower Haight or Castro restaraunts and night life.

PERFECT PLACE TO STAY!

  • 5 of 5
We loved staying here. Absolutely beautiful, and charming little flat. The neighborhood was quaint and comfortable and there are lots of great cafes and places to eat close by. We were able to walk to the end of Haight st and back fairly easily. The flat is much bigger then it appears in the pictures and they definitely don't do the place justice. I would reccomend staying here to anyone traveling through San Francisco. What a great deal to stumble across. Our favorite hotel to stay at in San Francisco is twice the price and half the size. We definitely will be back!

IT'S ALL TRUE!!!

It's all true!!!

Absolutely a great place to stay, it's like staying at a friend's apartment without the friend. Bright and clean and comfortable. Washer and dryer a big plus. David, the manager, was gracious and so helpful. A 20-minute walk to City Hall. A 20-minute ride to the airport. Innumerable restaurants and food stores close-by. Can't think of anything that would make it better.

WONDERFUL FLAT FOR S.F. VISIT

  • 5 of 5
We just returned from a superb four day visit to San Francisco and a three night stay in the flat on Fillmore. We found the reviews left here on VRBO as very accurate and full of lots of good information. The flat is exactly as described and comes very complete with all your needs for a very comfortable stay. We were met by David and he allowed us to put our luggage away early and we then returned later when he had completed the cleaning. David was very kind and helpful in many ways during our stay. Vallie states in the listing that she helps out in the neighborhood cleaning up and contributing to the upkeep of her area. I saw her walking around twice cleaning up trash. Speaking of the neighborhood, it is excellent. You will find numerous restaurants and shops close by that are some of the best in the city.

- Kate's Kitchen - Wonderful lunch and breakfast place just one block away on Haight St.(found in many travel books as one of the best breakfasts in the city)
- Squat & Gobble - Excellent breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Order at the counter and sit inside or out. We had draft beers for $2.75.
- Safeway - Large supermarket about two blocks away, this can be great for anything you need
- Cafe Soleil - Fantastic french cafe right across the street. Went here for pastries and coffee as well as cold beer and sandwiches. Super friendly staff and owner.

We spent a lot of time as many others have mentioned sitting in the bay window watching life at the corner of Waller and Fillmore. On our last night in the flat they were filming a pilot for HBO right on the corner. We watched as they prepared and shot a bus scene right in front of our noses. The neighborhood is super safe and very clean. Many professionals, families, and curious characters all live nearby.

Another aspect that we really enjoyed was the location. It is super easy to get to on the "Muni" train which also connected to all other municipal transportation: BART, streetcars, buses, and trolley cars. We bought a City Pass that gave us unlimited use of city transit and admission to a bunch of attractions.

If you are looking for an experience that allows you to live a bit like a local, this is it. I would highly recommend staying at this great flat rather than a generic downtown hotel.
