Torch Lake Lodge Rental Photos and Description
Cabin with 2 Bedrooms + Loft and 1 Bath (Sleeps up to 8)
NOTE: We do not open for reservations until early January. Please contact us then if you are interested in renting during summer 2015. Come get away for a week on the shore of Michigan's most beautiful lake in our charming log lodge. Kids love the big sandy private beach. Teens romp on the sandbars and boats. Parents kick back and gaze at the grades of color in the crystal clear water. At night enjoy billions of stars, and then a fire in the massive stone fireplace, or in the fire ring on the beach. The lodge sleeps up to 8, and sits on 200 feet of private shoreline 350 feet from the road. It has 2 bedrooms, a loft, a kitchen, screened porch, living room, and a modern bathroom and foyer. Our Caretaker lives nearby and makes sure ROMYR is ready for your arrival.

This is a genuine log lodge, built by our grandfather in the 1930's. He named it ROMYR. It's on the nicer side of Torch Lake and has one of the larger beaches on the lake. Two bedrooms on the ground floor each have a double bed. The loft has two twin mattresses in a big frame together, and two separate twin beds. The bathroom and foyer were completely rebuilt in 1994. ROMYR is not a condominium, and anyone who goes there expecting pampered living will be disappointed. There is no: heat, A/C, washer/dryer, or dishwasher and the water comes from the lake (we drink bottled water). There is also no phone, radio, stereo or TV disruption, and we like it that way. We do, however--in a concession to the modern age--have WIFI.
The lake is the major attraction, and we put a swimmer's buoy 100 feet beyond the boat moorings that protects a large area from ski-boats. The 5-foot-deep sandbars about 100 feet out are perfect for water Frisbee, or underwater leapfrog. We provide a dock, a boat hoist, and a rowboat, useful for getting to boats at either of the two moorings and for casual rowing. We also provide a supply of life preservers.
We open for business in June and close up in late September. Rates in June and September are lower. With longer days in June and warmer water in September, the weeks are extremely pleasant. July and August offer both. For more information, testimonials and our most up to date availability, see our website. This is intended as an introduction only, so please call or e-mail us to check out any particular assumptions that are important to you. Rent two consecutive weeks and get a discount. Weeks are labeled 'Available' on the calendar until payment and a signed Contract have been received by Pat (my brother's wife, who takes our reservations). Note that Pat lives in the Rocky Mountain time zone; please be considerate with early morning calls.

I'm an Engineer. I'm one of my grandfather's surviving grandchildren.
Pat purchased this lodge in 1930
Why Pat chose Torch Lake
My grandfather bought this property from the guy who bought it from the Holland Land Company, and he left it to me in a trust.
What makes this lodge unique
It took until I was out of college to begin to realize how special Torch Lake is, and how special our place on Torch Lake is. I've been to Europe, Hawaii, Belize, Canada, Florida, the southwest US, and Costa Rica. They're all great, but they don't offer Torch's gorgeous colored clear fresh water, or the charm of this lakefront lodge there. I used to feel like I was missing something by spending a week of my vacation there every year, but now I jealously guard my time there, and it's always over too soon.
Guestbook comments from the owner
I wanted to write and let you know what a great time we had. First of all, the lake is truly amazing and we swam every day and did some row boating as well….. We collected a bunch of beautiful rocks that I’m sure we’ll use on a craft project soon. The cabin is so charming…you can just feel the history. We found it quite comfortable and accommodating. I think everything you could possibly need with so many nice touches. We just had a great time getting a bunch of R&R and enjoying the sunrises, the long days and the starlit nights. Thanks for everything. It was one of our favorite vacations.
