It's all about the lake! Waneta Lake is nestled between the large Finger Lakes of Seneca and Keuka. It is a very relaxed family friendly vacation spot. Wake up in the morning and enjoy a cup of coffee sitting at the dock. Spend the day fishing, swimming, or boating. The lake water is shallow so water warms earlier than most.
If it rains, wineries, restaurants and local artists are minutes away, many host weekend art or music festivals. Corning, less than an hour away, hosts the world famous Corning Glass Museum and the Rockwell Western Art Museum. Within 20 minutes drive is the Gorge at Watkins Glen ( a beautiful hike on a cool day), golf, the Windmill farmers/craft market, and the Curtis Motorcycle/Aircraft Museum. Racing fans may want to visit Watkins Glen and Blackrock Racetracks. Nice restaurants can be found on Seneca and Keuka lakes, we enjoy the Villiage Tavern in Hammondsport.
On most evenings we grill our own dinner, and eat it either under the pavilion (seats about 10) or on the patio overlooking the lake (seats 4-6). If it is nice we finish up with a fire on the beach. The stars are beautiful.

We are Dan and Beth Swiler, my wife describes us as middle aged, but I disagree. We have children who all have different interests and ages, and none of us are excited about going places and waiting in lines. However, they all agree on the lake. We graduated from local Western NY schools (Alfred U and Tech) and love the area (in the summer). We now live in Hagerstown, MD and spend 2-3 weeks every year enjoying the lake.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2006
We grew up in the area so it gives us a spot to entertain old friends and family or to just relax. You can keep the rest of the world outside unless you choose to let it in.
On most weeks the water is quiet until 10AM or later, this leads to great ski runs.
Last year dozens of Muskie were caught (we have a picture of one our friend pulled in). Mostly it is bass, perch and bluegill.
Our vacation was great! we loved the cottage and the location. Thankfully the weather was good, so the water was a lot of fun. Found plenty of things to do near-by. Enjoyed the neighbors to the south, wealth of info! Thanks again for sharing your cottage!

Very nice location Boat lift a plus. Neighbors friendly. Cottage clean and well equipped for Water fun. Fishing just incredible.
Thank you for sharing your home away from home ...A very nice cottage on a very relaxing lake. Mornings and evenings were spent relaxing on the patio overlooking the lake. The cottage was just as we expected and very clean and well furnished. The canoe and paddleboat got a lot of use on the nice days and the board games and dvd player on the less than perfect days.
Plenty of activities in the area to enjoy. We would highly recommend this cottage for a relaxing get away or a fun filled week on the lake waterskiing and tubing.
Thanks for sharing your cottage with us! We had a great time during our stay. The cottage was clean and very well equipped. We all enjoyed fishing, swimming and boating in the canoe and paddle boats. The water was chilly, but very refreshing, as it was a hot few days! There were plenty of noodles and floats for everyone to enjoy. The view from the back patio was fantastic. We loved sitting there in the morning drinking our coffee. We even had a fire in the fire pit at the water's edge every night. There is plenty to do in the area, but we were content just relaxing at the cottage every day. Overall, it was a very relaxing, enjoyable stay and we wish we could have stayed longer. We will definately stay here the next time we visit this area. The owner, Beth, was very quick about answering any questions we had. Thanks again!
