This cottage has been in the family for over 30 years. After we built our cabin in the mountains we began to travel and enjoyed staying in VRBO homes. Instead of selling the house, we decided to share it with others who might be traveling to the Grapevine area. We enjoy meeting people from all parts of the country and welcome you to spend time at Lonesome Dove Retreat.
Lloyd Haevischer purchased this house in 1980
We chose the name Lonesome Dove Retreat because we are only 2 miles from the historic Lonesome Dove Baptist Church which was the first established church in the area in 1846. Author Larry McMurtry actually chose the name Lonesome Dove for his epic novel and mini-series after seeing a Lonesome Dove Church bus in the parking lot of a restaurant.
Grapevine is a charming town with something for everyone. Whether it is shopping, sporting events or Texas Wine Trails Grapevine is sure to please. Our cozy cottage is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but it is close enough to the excitement of the DFW area to make it worth your stay. After a long day of shopping, touring the wineries or attending one of the area’s many sporting events, you can enjoy our patio and hot tub complete with a flat screen TV and gas grill.
This was a lovely place to stay. We appreciated the comfortable beds and the neighborhood-great for taking a walk. Thank you.
We loved this place. Girls weekend. Plenty of room for two. Definitely recommend
We had a wonderful experience staying at the Lonesome Dove Retreat. Very nice neighborhood. House was very clean and had everything we had hoped for. Very clean and beautiful. We had a nice relaxing stay. We will definitely be staying here in the future if we need a place in this area.
Our stay at Lonesome Dove Retreat was all that we hoped for. The home was very clean, nicely decorated and very comfortable. If we ever visit the area in the future Lonesome Dove Retreat will be our first choice for accommodations.
Great place, a lot bigger inside then it looks outside. Close to everything. My kids loved the shower
We stayed for close to 2 months to get away from the Michigan winter and cannot say enough about the house (so cute), the neighborhood (walkable and quiet), our hosts (very responsive), and the community (so much to do). I loved the décor. The bathroom is super cute with copper wash basin and walk-in shower. Thank you for wifi and a great printer. We found the senior center where people were warm and welcoming. We found an art studio (Gypsy Muse) and took drawing lessons. We took in a performance at the Texas Star Theater. We couldn't begin to try all the restaurants. We liked Wilhoite's, Big Daddy's and Mi Dia. My only reservation would be the freeways - confusing and under perpetual construction - something that the owners have no control over. Bottom line - this is a great place to stay for a weekend - or for several weeks.
This quaint home feels like your own personal vacation home. Nothing was lacking and it literally felt like home away from home. My girlfriend and I are local to the area and just needed a retreat from our hectic lives and the crazy dogs. Instead of driving hours to some remote location to unwind, we decided to explore the lovely downtown Grapevine. The home was a mere 5 minutes away and there is no traffic hassle to deal with.
The hot tub is a major plus. I went in with low expectations about the cleanliness and usability of the hot tub. Boy was I blown away. It was immaculate and well maintained. My girlfriend has chronic back and neck pain and the hot tub was just the ticket. Very relaxing.
In a nutshell, we LOVED our stay here and would recommend it to anyone who wants to visit Texas and take in the local charm of what Texas is really like.
