Now Accepting 2014 Summer Reservations...
First-time renters are always pleased when they walk up the path and see the view of the harbor exactly like the picture suggests. The only thing I can't guarantee is that it will be high tide when you arrive!
My sons and I run and maintain the cottage and we think we have one of the prettiest and most relaxing spots in the area for the price (maybe at any price!).
We now have wireless Internet at the cottage and it easily reaches to the lounge chairs on the front lawn.
Kent St. John, senior editor of GoNomad, an on-line travel website, has stayed at the cottage and wrote an article about it, 'The Perfect Summer Rental,' that you can view on the Cozy Harbor Cottage website. Just go to the Cozy Harbor Cottage link listed below for more information on the cottage and a link to that article.
From the picture above, you can see that it's a beautiful, private spot, with the lawn leading right down to Cozy Harbor.
We are the Maine you imagine! Your first hint that life might be slower on Southport Island is if the swing-bridge is open as you make your way to our waterfront cottage. Yachts, fishing boats, sailing ships and pleasure craft keep the bridge tenders pretty busy in summer months and give visitors an opportunity for a true taste of Maine.
But it’s just a short wait for the bridge to close and then only a few minute drive to Cozy Harbor on Southport Island, one of the most charming and unspoiled harbors along the Maine Coast.
Our turn-of-the-century cottage sits at the head of Cozy Harbor providing a panoramic view in a private setting. Through the picture window, young sailors and seasoned fishermen navigate past the cottage. Lobster boats chug by the property on the rising tide. Great blue herons, osprey and the occasional eagle all visit the harbor.
The front lawn slopes gently right to the water and is perfect for morning coffee, a book, or an afternoon nap. There is a small kitchen and bathroom on the first floor along with a larger dining/living room that looks over the harbor. There are two small bedrooms on the second floor, each with a full bed and bureau. The front bedroom looks out over the harbor with the open Atlantic in view.
You might want to explore a little, too. Back out to Beach Road and up the hill to the right, it’s a two minute walk to the Southport General Store, Post Office, school playground, and the Southport Museum (home to one of the three pairs of Ruby Slippers from the Wizard of Oz. Margaret Hamilton, the Wicked Witch, was a frequent visitor to the island).
Out to the left, it’s a two-minute walk to the Boothbay Harbor Trust Nature Walk and the Hendrick’s Head Beach with its famous lighthouse in view. Pass the beach, take the right up the hill, and it’s a picturesque one and a quarter mile “loop” walk that will bring you back to the cottage.
And all of this is just a short drive to Boothbay Harbor with its multitude of summer/fall activities, boat trips, kayak rentals, golf, shopping, and restaurants. (You can paddle your kayak and tie it up right out front of the cottage.)
Some specific ideas? Kids and adults will enjoy the Maine State Aquarium, just across the swing bridge and to the right. Sometimes there are even sand sharks to “pet.” Kids will also enjoy the Boothbay Railway Village and a Mini-Golf course back in town. Another great option is taking a day trip from Boothbay Harbor out to Monhegan Island. It offers a trip back in time to an artist colony and lobstering community with some of the best cliff views in Maine, or anywhere along the East Coast.
The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay is also a must-see. Their website calls it a…250-acre phenomenon some are calling “The Miracle in Maine.”
Back at the cottage, there's a big new recliner for naps and a rolling front lawn for tiring out the kids!
Two requests, though. No smoking and no pets please.
We’ll make every effort to ensure you have a wonderful Maine visit. Bed linens and towels are included in the price. Don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me with any questions. You'll get a quick response. Thanks. John Blois

While I'm the current 'owner,' I'm really just care-taking the property for my 2 sons so that Cozy Harbor Cottage will continue on in the family. My great grandmother purchased the property in the 1920's. Those were the days before indoor plumbing. Don't worry. Things have changed. Each successive family member has added this or that to the cottage. I wonder what my great grandmother would think about high-speed wireless?
I do all the yard work too, and I never take the view for granted if I'm mowing the lawn or watering the flowers.
The picture is pretty accurate. That's just the way it looks over the water from the cottage.
Live Theatre at the Boothbay Opera House, HarborSide Cinema showing the latest releases, The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens has opened. It's the largest botanical garden in New England and one of the largest in the world located on the ocean. Different flowers bloom in all seasons and it's definitely worth a trip.
