Charming 26m2 studio apartment in Rue Descartes, in the heart of the famous Rue Mouffetard Quarter. A calm and light haven on the 4th floor with views to France's most prestigious school Lycee Henri IV and the Pantheon on one side and the Parisian roofs of the peaceful courtyard on the other side, this studio exudes the charm of historical Paris with its exposed timber beams and fireplace.
Newly renovated in January 2011, the 'Studio Descartes' apartment features state of the art amenities including wall mounted flat screen TV with Ipod/Iphone dock and cable Panasonic TV including international channels, high speed internet and wireless, phone connection with free calls to all French fixed lines and mobiles and to international landlines in over 130 countries as well as latest model of Brand washing machine and dryer, induction hot plates and LG microwave.
Cook up a storm in the fully equipped kitchen with the exquisite local produce you get in the Rue Mouffetard at the fresh food markets or walk down to the Seine River (10 min) with a champagne picnic from one of the numerous local wine merchants in the street.
The calm location of the 'Studio Descartes' in the back building invites a good night sleep in the loft sleeping area (mezzanine to be accessed with ladder) with a queensize mattress, or turn your living room into a junior suite by easily converting the trendy 'Sullivan' sofa into a luxury bed with a high quality queensize mattress (top grade of density, 'HR 35', high resilience with 35kg/m3).
Thanks to our location up on the 4th level, we enjoy light entering through the large windows. This is the most historic part of Paris, so no elevator in the antique building with typical Parisian stone stairs leading you up to your private sanctuary. But you do get your daily workout - no gym pass needed!!
The small bathroom features a good size shower (we are both very tall people!), a sink and toilet.
Closest metro station is 5 minutes away: Place Monge (Line 7) and Cardinal Lemoine (Line 10),
RER Line B Luxembourg Station (regional express train network to Charles de Gaulle and Orly Airports, change to Linne C to Versailles) only 10 minutes walking distance. This also takes you to St Michel, Chatelet - Les Halles, Gare du Nord.
We trust you will enjoy our little Paris treasure as much as our friends and us do!
Book tip: Ernest Hemingway 'A Moveable Feast' (a copy is in the studio for you to read during your stay if you wish)
'If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then whereever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast' - Hemingway.
Hemingway lived across the street and the old Paris city wall goes through the main building, so you are experiencing 12th century history live!

Tea is a German/Finnish entrepreneur and business executive based in Paris and Brisbane, Australia. Paris and my studio apartment is home to me and my sanctuary due to its calm position. I love sharing the magic of the City of Lights with our friends and other travellers.
The Owner purchased this studio in 2010
The Rue Mouffetard is our favourite street in Paris. It's the old historic Paris, full of charme and activities, with fresh food markets and literary cafes abound. Hemingway lived across the street and today many famous French artists live in the area. It's mostly a pedestrian street where Paris locals, students from the nearby Sorbonne University and the famous Henry IV Highschool (France's most prestigious Lycee) mingle with travellers from all around the world. Just next to the Pantheon and a 10 minute walk from the Seine River and Notre Dame, 5 minutes from the Jardin de Luxembourg, and a stunning 20 minute walk through Ile de la Citee or Ile St. Louis to the Right Bank, it's centrally located for everything.
One of Tea's favourite things to do is the Hammam (Arabic Steam baths) at the nearby French Mosque (Mosquee de Paris). It's an authentic spa experience with Algerian mamas giving you deep tissue massages and delightful tea rooms for lingering afterwards. Best way to get rid of a jet lag.But beware: this ain't an Anglosaxon spa experience!!
Buy local produce at the famous markets at Place Monge and Rue Mouffetard where Parisians shop and cook up a storm in the well equipped kitchen or take a picnic down to the Seine for sunset drinks! You can virtually walk everywhere from this location, but the metro at Place Monge is less than a 5 minute walk and the RER (airport train link) to both airports (CDG and Orly) is less than 10 minutes away (RER/Metro Luxembourg).
I run in the Jardin du Luxembourg, just down the road.
I have been home in Australia for a few weeks now, but I did want to tell you again, how much I appreciated staying in your lovely loft in Paris!
You also were very gracious and thoughtful in making us feel comfortable. And we did enjoy your part of the world! There were so many things to see and do.
Thank you again.
With my very best wishes,
Great place for a short or extend stay, the latter being our case. Very convenient location with lots of shops, cafes, markets and restaurants around, as well as metro stations (close to line 10 and 7). The studio itself has a fully equipped kitchen, charming wood beamed interior and tons of natural light. It's lovely and quiet while still being steps from the bustle of the Latin Quarter and St. Germain. If you have any issues, Tea is very quick to respond and solve them.
The location is perfect in that it is close to many of the Paris attractions and neighbourhoods. Also it is about 50 meters from Rue Moutffetard which is a great street for food outlets, restaurants etc. The apartment is very quiet with windows front and back for good air circulation. The apartment is very well designed and the appliances were first rate. Tea, the owner, lives close and was very helpful with her welcome manual of advice on everything from metro access to restaurants etc. We have spent time in Paris before and this is the best location for access to the city. Strongly recommend the property...probably our best VRBO rental ever.
My husband and I enjoyed every moment of our two-week stay in cozy, comfortable Studio Descartes. Lively area at night, but the apartment is dreamily quiet. We loved hanging at Café Delmas every night for their happy hour, watching the world wander through Place de la Contrescarpe. Perfect historic, but "local" location. We could disappear into real Parisian life, but still be within walking distance to tourist central, when the spirit moved us. We had the pleasure of meeting the hospitable Tea and Olivier. The fold-out bed was perfect for us. Our friends came to stay for a few nights and enjoyed sleeping in the loft. Kitchen is well-equipped and washer/dryer does the trick. The free wi-fi and free land-line long distance were major plusses for us! Steps are formidable in this authentic "old Paris" style building, so pack lightly and prepare for an amazing experience.
My daughter, granddaughter and I recently stayed in a 4th etage apartment in the Latin Quarter of Paris, within 10 minutes walk (run in my daughter's case) of Notre Dame. Not only was the area full of wonderful, reasonably priced restaurants, but our street also contained wonderful shops for cheese, meat, fish, bakery and chocolate; all the food groups really! The owners of our apartment really went out of their way to make our trip easy and stress-free and it was wonderfully appointed for cooking from the local markets. It really was the trip of a lifetime, and I can't thank Tea and Olivier enough for allowing us to use their apartment. It would be almost impossible not to come back to the same place for a future stay.
For us, Studio Descartes was the perfect blend of Old Paris and up-to-date conveniences. The winding staircase has such wonderful character with a mix of old wood, stone, and brick. The building and neighborhood are rich in history, yet inside the studio, we found everything just as described and well-maintained: newly renovated lighting and plumbing, plus cable and internet, and, as Tea says, anything you could possibly need in the kitchen. We loved being able to step outside the building and into the energy of the Latin Quarter with its cafes, bakeries, shops, and students. And we loved coming "home" and thinking about Ernest Hemingway living and writing just across the street during the 1920s, in a building that now houses La Maison Verlaine, a cafe we highly recommend.
Tea and Olivier provided a very detailed and thorough Welcome Manual which we really appreciated and used. We followed several of their suggestions and enjoyed them, including the Batobus, Kayser Bakeries,Cafe de la Nouvelle Mairie, and the local market. We were most fortunate to meet both Tea and Olivier and wish we could keep them as neighbors - so helpful and kind! Our Paris trip was everything we had hoped for, and we highly recommend Studio Descartes to you. Bon Voyage!
This tiny apartment is perfect: You have to have strong legs because it's up four flights of small winding stairs, but what a great location!! Best food in Paris is right on your street, pubs and sandwich shope that are open late, a friendly atmosphere from everyone, and decent prices. The owners are very friendly and helpful, and you are in the middle of everything!
