Mandalay

Coordinating and booking the property with Mary was simple and easy.
We arrived and were promptly greeted by Peter who showed us around the Mandalay property.
The house itself was nice, well kept clean, with a good a/c system (important). Large living room, ample sleeping space for 4 people, nice open kitchen and a comfortable backyard with a hammock and hanging out area.
We had three main issues with the place. There were very few supplies of what I would consider basic necessities, exacerbated by the fact that our flight was delayed and it was a national holiday. So we arrived after stores had closed to find we only had hand soap in the bathrooms. Also the kitchen had no basic items (such as salt, pepper, olive oil, coffee filters etc).
Also, they neglected to mention that on the 2nd day we stayed there, they were going to have a crane digging a hole in their driveway to create a swimming pool for a good few hours, creating a ton of noise, dust and a general nuisance.
Lastly, their listing says they have cable/satellite tv. They do have an old TV onsite, and whilst we would not care about watching tv on vacation, we wanted to catch some Olympics coverage during the evenings and this was also annoying not to have.
Owner's Response: Firstly let me say that I am very disappointed that Will did not see fit to come to me in person while on holiday. He was told on arrival to let us know if he needed anything, he simply had to ask, as everyone else does, we live on the property at the front and I am there all day.
Also let me point out that although it clearly states on the website, maximum guests for the property are four persons, Will arrived with 5 people in his party without asking beforehand, having stated that there would be only 3, something we were going to turn a blind eye to. He also left with the back door off its hinges without any explanation. It is equally disappointing in that we had made an exception in Wills case to take a booking for only 3 nights, normally minimum stay 4 nights but we went out of our way to be accommodating.
The fact that Will’s flight was delayed and it being a public holiday on his arrival here, I am afraid, is out with my control, if he had thought ahead and asked me to do a basic shop for him I would have done and have done for many people.
If any supplies had run out, he simply had to ask, for more. As for olive oil? we do not supply food stuffs, we supply basic necessities, kitchen roll, coffee filters, toilet rolls, dishcloths, dishwasher soap, hand soap, garbage bags, cleaning materials, dish soap, basic condiments.
Obviously we only supply basic soaps in the bathrooms as stated on the website, most people prefer to supply their own personal hygiene accessories.
We apologized for the work being done at the front of the house which was nowhere near Will’s apartment, he said no problem. The decision to start the pool had only been decided upon, three days before Will’s arrival, but I saw no problem as it did not affect either his apartment nor the patio area to the rear, the one he describes himself as being “a comfortable backyard and hanging out area” if he means he had to take 10 steps past the work place to reach the road I am sorry if that was an inconvenience. I know the fact that a pool was being built and will be finished in three days time( 22nd August) was of no use to Will, but I am sure others that follow will much appreciate it.
Cable TV was out because of lightning strikes, we did supply a system which allows access s to over 30 films.
Why he failed to ask for what he needed as requested and now complains baffles and disappoints me
But it just goes to prove, you can’t please all of the people all of the time
