Thank you for the great stay! The cottage was nice and cozy. Our children enjoyed the swim in the pool! Fantastic views, sunrise was spectacular even in the rain! Beautiful water fall, such a treat to see. Kids liked seeing all of the animals. Thank you. Leina and Keith
This was our first time to the Big Island and we could not have stayed anywhere better. The accommodations were first rate and our hosts Steve and Keala went above and beyond. A special thanks Keala, I am going to buy myself a paddle board! When we decide to go back to Hawaii this will always be our place of choice!
We've stayed at the Cottage twice now, and enjoyed every moment of each visit. You could not find a better place to relax anywhere on the island. Mahalo, Steve and Keala.
What a wonderful property for your stay. Perfect for our family of four. Very comfortable beds and all the amenities a person could ask for. The view and the hospitality are OUTSTANDING. We loved every minute of our stay.
Thank You so much and we hope to return soon.
This is our second visit to the Pu'u Moi cottage. It was great seeing the hosts Steve and Keala again. If you are thinking of a relaxing a beautiful place to stay in Hawaii this would be it. Definitely would stay here again. Mahalo Nui Loa!
Lovely little hideaway not far off the beaten path. This was our first stay in a VRBO property and we loved it. We stayed in 2 other resort properties while in HI and this was our favorite lodging. The cottage is a nice mixture of quaint and upscale spa. It is very spacious. The bathroom, bedroom, kitchen and sitting area are all sizeable. The front porch also has a nice swing to relax on. While you could sleep up to 6 I think this is perfect for a family of 4. There is an upstairs loft with a futon that would be nice for an older child (though I would not put younger ones up there because they would have to climb a ladder).
The setting is also lovely. After turning off the highway and driving for a few minutes you feel are in the country. At night the frogs serenade you to sleep.
Also, you will be visited by the owner's dogs. If you are a dog lover, you will be in heaven. If you are not a dog lover (I am not) you will be by the time you leave. Bunny is one of the cutest, spunkiest little things I have ever seen.
The only downsides to this property (and there are always downsides) is that light sleepers might be bothered by the frogs. A pair of earplugs (which every light sleeper should travel with) would take care of things. I myself am a light sleeper and was not bothered by the frogs. The roosters also crow in the morning but they did not bother me. Most folks will be awake anyways because of the time difference with the mainland.
I would return and stay in this property in a heart beat. Amazing value for the price.
As a frequent visitor of Hawaii, had a great stay at Pu'u Moi. The cottage was spotless and comfortable. Steve (and family) was very friendly and accommodating. Great spot including laundry and private waterfall on working/gated a short distance from Hilo. I totally recommend staying here. ;)
We are located on the Hamakua Coast of the Big Island in the town called Papaikou. Papaikou was once a thriving sugar cane plantation where charming homes of the past still stand. Papaikou is located 7 miles form Hilo.
