Run dow, no running water, no refrigerator, owner with bitter attitude
We arrived to the Casita with many bags of groceries. When I opened the refrigerator, the door fell off onto my foot. The hinges were rusted away, so there was nothing for the door to hang on. The door on the freezer compartment was cracked, duct taped and would not stay on the freezer. We immediately called the property manager around 2PM, and as our expensive edibles slowly warmed for 5 hours, we finally got a tiny, dirty, fish-permeated-smelling cube sized refrigerator, delivered by the angry owner. We mentioned to him that the property manager had warned us that if the water went out, we could use the bucket on the porch to bring in water to flush the toilets. While the owner was there he told us this wouldn't happen, there was plenty of water in storage. The comforter was stained with what appeared to be "personal fluids." The towels were threadbare and the sleeping pillows were very flat (about 1.5" thick). The reusable coffee filter was so gummed up that the coffee would not drip through. The tropical yard was very neglected and the view from our front porch was a large clothes line. There was no washer/dryer as advertised. There was not a BBW on the deck, as advertised, but there was a communal BBQ that was filthy and all the pieces were wobbly like it was going to fall apart any minute. When we shared with the owner that it seemed upkeep had been neglected and that we were very unhappy, he told us that we could leave and that he would make restitution for the deposit money we had put down. The next morning the water went dry. A call to the property manager also provided us with directions to use the mop bucket from the porch to not only flush the toilet, but to get water to boil for washing dishes and brushing teeth. She told us we could bathe and wash our clothes in the pool. Because it was New Years and other vacancies on the island were nil, it took us a total of 1.5 days to take the owner up on his offer and move. After multiple calls to the property manager, who made multiple promises to speak with the owner about restitution for a non functioning kitchen and bathroom, we never received a call back. Instead, when we returned home, we had not only NOT received credit for monies paid early as a deposit, but there was a ADDITIONAL charge made the day after we checked-out. We disputed this charge and won. The condition of the unit and the owner's attitude were inexcusable and indefensible.
