Bill and Pat Scheuner live in the middle of rural Camino in El Dorado County. They are members of the Apple Hill Growers Association made up of 50 family farms. Since 1978 Grandpa's Cellar has been Pat's main occupation. Bill worked as nursery manager for the U. S. Forest Service. After retiring in 1990 Bill started working full time in the apple business. Son, Bill, Jr. and daughter, Karen grew up helping and are now pursuing their careers out of El Dorado County.
Patricia Scheuner purchased this house in 2005
Tideaway was the dream of John and Marcia Clark back in the 1960’s when they purchased the property. Years were spent coming to the coast to clear the land and planing for their retirement home. In 1972, Frontier Homes was chosen for builder of this old growth redwood home with the modern, classic style fitting the rustic Northern Coast. The home was designed by Marcia to capture the 180 degree panoramic views from the bluff. There is probably no closer dining to the edge of the Pacific Ocean than this vacation rental.
Pat Scheuner, Marcia and John’s niece and husband Bill have been coming to Fort Bragg for over 40 years to help them accomplish their dream. The Scheuner family is now sharing this special property with visitors as a vacation rental. The guests enjoy Marcia’s artwork and artistic touches throughout the home and her gardens with something always blooming.
The Aquatic Center displays a plaque of John and Marcia naming the natatorium after them due to their generous donations. We hope all the visitors to the coast will take advantage of this wonderful indoor water park for the whole family.
Pat and Bill come to the coast from El Dorado County from time to time to “tend to things” as Bill puts it. Our plan is to continue to rent Tideaway to the many people who appreciate the home and property and take care of it as if it were their own. We are very lucky to have such loyal, returning visitors.
Thank you. Bill and Pat
It's all about the view! We find that we can sit for hours and watch the ever changing sea. The location is convenient for walking to the Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden and driving a mile to our favorite Harvest market.
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful place with us. It is absolutely magical and we enjoyed every minute. We look forward to returning with friends and family in the near future.
End of March 2015. I don't need much to be happy at the beach, but I just spent a fantastic weekend at the very comfortable Tideaway and loved every minute. You almost have to tear yourself away from the views and the whales...but daytrips to headlands at Russian Gulch, MacKerricher, Jughandle and Pt Cabrillo headlands include more great views and whales with wildflowers...notably deep purple Delphinium and rampant Wild Cucumber this trip. We cooked several meals in the well-appointed kitchen and slept soundly to the rhythmic Pacific soundtrack. Also LOVED the new FB bakery, A Sweet Affair, whose proprietress is creating authentic and delicious french pastry art. Roundman for meats and Harvest Market (gets more upscale every time we visit) are also required shopping stops. Miss the place already. Planning a return while the Spring "sunny season" is with us. Tideaway is as good as it gets. Go. You won't be sorry.
To celebrate 28 years together, we could not have picked a better place! Set on a private ocean bluff the Tideaway is a romantic and rustic home with breathtaking ocean views. Close to Ft. Bragg, Mendocino, and State Parks there are plenty of places to explore. The home is beautifully appointed and very comfortable; the well stocked kitchen has everything you could possible need and more.
If you are looking for serenity, inspiration or adventure then the Tideaway is your place. Enjoy the day taking in the sites, relax in the hot tub and then fall asleep listening to the waves crashing below.
We shall return !

That the view is breathtaking, the house comforting, and the area relaxing/envigorating are all descriptions that barely replicate the reality!!!! We stayed for only 2 nights and regretted not reserving a longer stay. If I could upload the photos we took to accentuate those included above I would ... and you will find yourself snapping one after another too. Yes ... this rental is THAT GOOD!!!! GREAT!!! Spend the day meandering around the town of Mendocino or visit Montgomery Woods State National Reserve walking among the redwood giants and finish the day barbecuing in the comfort of a beautiful home ... then jump into the hot tub with your favorite person/bottle of champagne as you listen to the waves crashing onto the rocks below just 100' away. It doesn't get any better than that. Period. Stay here.
We arrived at Tideaway in the dark. When we awoke the following day, we got to appreciate the photos from the VRBO listing. Spectacular view! The home was clean, comfortable with a modern kitchen, big great room with large TV. It was a great place to unwind after a day of touring, wine tasting, and driving on the local roads. We wish we could have stayed for a longer period.
The house is at the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean. It has two master bedrooms each with it's own bath at opposite ends of the house which gives guests wonderful privacy if they want it. There is a smaller bedroom adjacent to one of the master bedrooms. The house is beautifully appointed, and the kitchen has everything you could possibly need for cooking. The furniture is very comfortable too. We'lll be delighted to stay there again. Thank you Pat for sharing your beautiful home with us.
The views are absolutely breathtaking, and we were lucky enough to arrive on Friday in time for the sunset. We also really enjoyed cooking in the very well stocked kitchen – we whipped up a big Greek feast on Saturday night. Over all it was the perfect weekend getaway, and we are sending all of our friends your way.
