A Perfect Place for Us

After two weeks on an organized tour, using 4-star hotels, four of us (seniors) rented the Casa Bella apartment in Rovinj. I would take this Casa over those hotels anytime. It is not as plush, but far more comfortable and in a perfect location. Yes we had two flights of stairs so it was not as convenient as a hotel with elevators, but it was downtown, overlooking the market and the Adriatic Sea. We were provided a huge welcome bowl of grapes, a carton of juice and bottles of water as well as lots of helpful food condiments and soaps - all graciously provided by Zelika and her father, Zeljko. When we realized that we would arrive later than anticipated we were warmly told, “I hope that you are having a good time - no problems with the late arrival.” We called again when we were an hour away and were met near the apartment by Zeljko who helped carry up our suitcases! Their bend over backwards attitude, their personal welcome and explanations, and their providing us with a cell phone reflect their excellent service to us as their guests. And having nearby free parking was another bonus. We immediately knew that we would love it at Casa Bella. The Despot team is hospitable and tourist friendly! Be prepared, the building is about 200 years old, but the apartment was clean, neat, and spacious, and it reflected the historical charm which we wanted and liked. Casa Bella is THE place for you to stay, as long as you don’t reserve the week we want when we return!! I rate it as tops, in every aspect.
Rovinj was a great town for wandering. We loved the morning sounds of sea gulls and people in the market – and the quiet late nights. We ate many of our meals in the apartment but also ate at small restaurants but our favorite was a grilled pork meal by the Lim Canal. The area has much to offer: we particularly appreciated Pula's Roman ruins, the mosaics in the basillica in Porec, and the hill towns.
