Relax in comfort & enjoy all of Maui's activities using this remodeled bright & open floor plan 2 bedroom/2 bath, spacious condominium as your Maui retreat. Enjoy the expansive 50 ft window views which include the ocean & the 10,000 ft. mountain, Haleakala (House of the Sun). The 1048 sq. ft. interior space & the lanai combine to give you almost 1200 sq. ft of high quality living area. The new eco-friendly remodeling in a Contemporary Kama'aina (local Hawaiian) style used quality materials & surfaces such as travertine tiles, bamboo flooring, granite counter tops, tiled bath/shower, tiled shower & tiled lanai. A 52' TV (cable), Netflix and a DVD is located in the living room so you can watch sports or your favorite shows or movies on a big screen. Our condo unit A-308 is located in the front building of the newly painted Haleakala Shores complex on the side away from the street and is just a short walk to the ocean and park that you can see from the lanai.

The master bedroom, with direct access to the lanai, has a king bed, tropical decor, a built in computer desk & a 37' TV (cable) with DVD on a wall mounted swivel which will allow you to watch your favorite program from the lanai. A walk-in closet/dressing area with full length mirror connects to a bathroom area with two pedestal sinks & a full size deep tub with tiled shower surround & grab bar.

The second bedroom has a queen size bed. A walk-in closet/dressing area with full length mirror connects to a bathroom with a tiled shower & grab bar. When not used as a bedroom, the bed can be easily stored for maximum living space. A futon couch allows for added sleeping capacity.

The kitchen has a Maytag range/oven, new Frigidaire refrigerator with ice maker, new GE dishwasher, new quiet disposal, microwave & toaster ovens. You'll love the many kitchen tools & small appliances that are for your use. A stocked spice rack means you won't need to buy full jars of spices for just one dish. In unit laundry facilities are located in a separate closet.

Attention to details provide for your comfort. The coffee station features a stainless thermos coffee pot to allow you to keep your coffee hot on the lanai or anywhere else in the condo. This area also features a coffee grinder & a cappuccino/expresso maker for your pleasure. You will enjoy our wine chiller that is part of the bar area. Two stations have been built in to allow for easy computer use. Artwork featuring several local artists has been used to enhance the island atmosphere.

This unit is being upgraded constantly. Several game sets have been added for indoor, table top, outdoor & beach use. The newest addition is a Nintendo Wii Game Console with several games and Netflix access.. A CD player with docking ports for Ipod & Mp3 players is now available. In the kitchen, a rice cooker and panini maker has been supplied. A small fold away play pen/crib has been added. A high chair and stroller are also available.

Two air conditioners, two ceiling fans (one in each bedroom), two large and two small tower fans will keep you comfortable. Try using the fans & opening the windows to get the true island experience. Smell the sea air & the flowers.You may have noticed no mention of a furnace. It is not needed ocean side in Maui!!

Enjoy the pool area, the upgraded BBQ with granite counter top & the gazebo at Haleakala Shores. Walk a very short distance to Kamaole III Beach Park. Snorkel equipment, boogie boards, beach towels, mats, beach chairs & an umbrella are available for your use. Like to picnic? A picnic basket stocked with all the utensils & a hard sided cooler with wheels are yours to use at the pool, beach or wherever your Maui adventures takes you.

Haleakala Shores is a wonderful condominium community where a number of owners live and enjoy meeting visitors. We usually have a Burger Grilling potluck on the 15th of each month (look for the signs) courtesy of Big Joe and welcome all visitors as well as residents.

Ocean & Mountains Views from the same Condo

Lovely pool with a great tile turtle motif. Pool lanai called the Tiki Lounge that is great for relaxing stocked with many books.

There are two grill areas and several tables and chairs next to the grills or near the grills under a bougainvillea covered gazebo.

The pool area is pleasantly landscaped with beautiful plumeria trees, banana trees, various palm trees and other lush vegetation. It's quiet and relaxing.

Kamaole III Beach Park Across the Street - Great Swimming & Snorkelling. We have seen over 50 varieties of reef fish, green sea turtles & beautiful coral. There are two outdoor showers for cleaning off the sand before entering the building.

This Vacation Rental sets the bar!

This was our first vacation rental along with our first trip to Maui. The accommodations that the Grafes had placed at their place to me sets the bar. I could be wrong but I don't think a vacation rental would come close to what the Grafes have done and to me would set my expectations for other vacation rentals to that level. Everything was perfect as to the setup, everything that you needed for the stay, they left us with so much information to help us at ease into enjoying our stay in Maui. They are also very accessible too if needed as they live in the same complex. On top of that, the Grafes are very welcoming and accommodating. I couldn't have expected anything better. So if anybody is looking for a vacation rental in Maui, this is the place to book one. The location is perfect in Kihei, where it is somewhat centralized, where you can go to the beaches across the street, you can travel south to some other beaches, you can go east to travel to Hana, or west to travel to Lahaina. It's a great spot with plenty of places to shop to get what you need or restaurants close by if you want to eat. Where else would you want to book a vacation rental in Maui. This is the place to be to book one!! We would definitely book here again when we have future trips to Maui, and hopefully it's sooner than later. On a scale of 1 to 10, it's off the charts beyond 10.

Nice and spacious across the street from the beach

We stayed here for 1 week and had a fabulous time. The condo is nice and comfortable and right across the street from the beach. There's a Safeway, Starbucks, Foodland, and plenty of local restaurants all within 2-10 minutes drive from the unit. The restaurants are about 5 minutes walk. The condo is equipped with comfortable furniture, good sized bathrooms, bedrooms, living and kitchen. The on-site pool was nice. The condo premises are clean and in good order. Parking was good. Owners were nice.

We highly recommend this condo.

Best deal in Maui

We have been staying at the condo of Joe and Karen Grafe twice a year for the last three years. It is the best deal in Maui, the condo looks exactly like the video and all the amenities they have make it like staying at your own place. We have never needed to buy anything other than food to make our stay a perfect vacation. They have all the beach towels, beach supplies (snorkels, fins, masks, buggy boards, noodles, chairs, ice chest, picnic basket and more) that you would ever need. The location is central and perfect to get around anywhere in Maui, close to shopping, beaches and whatever you desire. They have a great book they leave in the unit that lists all the contact information for them and also ideas on fun things to do or places to eat in the area. The condo is always very clean and if you have any problems or concerns or anything you need Karen or Joe will take care of it immediately, they are wonderful people to work with.

They also have bags to use at the grocery stores as Maui does not use plastic bags and they will charge you if you don't bring your own bags when shopping.

The complex and pool area have rules to be followed that are completely in line with what they need to be. On our last visit we had kids jumping into the pool and almost hitting my mother in law while their mom’s sat on the side visiting and not watching what they were doing. Everyone uses the same facilities and we need to be courteous to all so sometimes the condo manager may seem harsh but he has to make the pool are fun and safe for all of us.

We disagree with Melissa W

We just got back from Karen and Joe's condo. To be honest, we have never seen any of those issues that Melissa W was complaining about. We have always found it to be very clean, well taken care of and have never had a problem of black floors. The lanai can get a little dirty, probably from the soot after burning the sugar cane fields or volcanic dust if it gets really windy. We will occasionally do a quick sweep which seems to help in keeping the inside clean. If you really look hard enough, you can always dust bunnies, but we would rather be at the beach.

We could see how window locks could give a little extra sense of security with a toddler around. If they had mentioned their concern to Karen or Joe, I am sure safety locks would have been installed for them. Karen and Joe seem to always be looking for ways to make their condo more enjoyable.

Contrary to Melissa's view on the unrealistic “do and don't s” we have never taken offense to them. These are simply common sense reminders of things that you wouldn't do in your own home such as dumping grease down the drain, flushing objects down the toilet, etc.

Unfriendly neighbors? They all seem to have that special “Aloha” spirit and if you take the time, you will find them to be very friendly and helpful and always happy. But why wouldn't they for they are living in paradise! Sure, Jim the grounds keeper is not the most talkative person in the world especially to people he doesn't know. But that is his nature and it shouldn't be held against him. He may be the quiet type who goes about his business, but he has never been gruff, rude or unfriendly to us. If you let your kids run around the pool or allow them to dive into it, or jump into it next to other guests, he will remind you that is against the “safety” rules. That is a tough job that I personally would not want to take on.

Important info to be noted about this Rental Property

Lets start positive, the building itself was in a great location as far as the beach across the street with a swing set for kids ages 7mths+
Our first impression as we walked through they door was, wow…. nice place, however within an hour of taking off our shoes at the door we noticed that we all had black bottoms on our feet! When were the floors washed last? There definitely was some issue with cleanness, dust bunnies and the bath mat inside tub was filthy.
Plenty of beach toys and playpen/highchair avail for little ones. LOts of left over spices etc in the cupboards.
One SUPER important SAFETY ISSUE i did notice right away was the fact that none of the locks work on the windows, this was a huge concern as we have little one and the screen is not a protection from keeping kids safe. THE WINDOWS HAD ABSOLUTELY NO WAY OF LOCKING, there are windows throughout the condo which is great for bringing in the beautiful sunshine however i felt sick knowing the windows had no way of locking. It was a burden as when i went to shower etc the kids had to be within arms reach or my husband had to be available to keep a close eye on them. We all know how quick an accident could happen. Also to be noted, not so serious but the table is pub style and my littlest sou,d have kept walking staring into a corner if we didn't make it so each chair was positioned to protect the corners or the tables.
This vacation wasn't as relaxing as we had hoped with all the rules it seemed unrealistic, air off at 10pm- 8am etc, We have been to maui on several occasions and never had any issue with such long list of do and don'ts. Some people in the building we very friendly (typically the ones on vacation we found) and others very unfriendly such as the grounds keeper. This building doesn't appear to be suited to be a rental property to stay while on vacation if you want to truly relax and unfortunately we wouldn't recommend this to families with small kids.
We made the best of the 2 weeks vacation and definitely enjoyed our family time together in beautiful Maui.

Owner's Response: We are very sorry that our guests did not enjoy the vacation of their dreams in our unit at Haleakala Shores, but we are extremely surprised by their comments. We live in the same building and visited with them two or three times to make sure they were happy with the unit and had everything they needed. There were never any questions about cleanliness or the locks on the windows. We have had many families with small children stay in our unit. In fact, we supply a playpen/crib, stroller, high chair and many toys for young children. There are even electric plug safety covers available to protect small children. Never has anyone commented that the windows need locks. However, if our guests had asked for locks, we would have arranged for them. They will now be provided. The unit was cleaned two days before arrival of our guests and the floors were indeed washed. The windows were kept closed until their arrival in order to keep dust down, however, the lanai may have had dust or dirt because it is outside. The tub mat is a beige/brown color and was inspected and sanitized. To eliminate any questions regarding it, the mat has been replaced. We do apologize that the condo association House Rules seem so complex and that the list in the unit must have been an older one as there are no longer any restrictions on use of air conditioning. Haleakala Shores has many resident owners and many of the House Rules pertain to issues that do not directly affect visitors. We will provide a list that has better clarity for visitors. Many visitors to Maui have vacationed happily here for years and we pledge to do our best to provide the quality unit that our guests expect.

Fully stocked, large, clean condo

We have stayed 5 times in Kihei at the Maui Banyan and the Maui Vista with this being our first stay at Haleakala Shores. The condo was better stocked than any of the other condos we have stayed at. We are a family of 4 with 2 teenagers. We used the 4 beach chairs,beach towels, 2 umbrellas, boogie boards, the soft side cooler and badminton set. The lanai was large and comfortable and we ate every meal outside, enjoying our mountain and partial ocean view. The condo was clean and exactly as pictured. Karen had set up the futon as a bed before our arrival so we had 3 beds. She also left us a nice lemon cake in the fridge. The kitchen was stocked with spices, sugar and cooking oil. There were reusable bags for shopping (which we didn't find until the end of the trip), dish detergent, dishwasher detergent and washing machine detergent (other condos we have stayed at did not have these items and we had to purchase them). The condo had a wii on which we could use our netflix account and after a day in the sun we watched the occasional movie. The parking stall is covered and close to the stairs and elevator. The pool was really nice and 8 feet deep at one end making it fun for my daughter and I to play in the water when the wind came up at the beach. The condo is across the road from the ocean with a cross walk adjacent to the property. My husband and I went walking every morning before the kids got up and we were able to walk in either direction along the beaches. On some of our beach days, we would put the chairs on our backs and we would walk to Kam 2, Kam 3 or Keawakapu beach to play in the waves or snorkel. Our snorkel trip to the Molokini Crater (Seafire Charters) was from the Kihei boat ramp, a 3 minute drive away. During our condo stay the key lock box and the dishwasher malfunctioned. The dishwasher was still working but the handle was broken making it difficult to open. However, because the owners Karen and Joe live in the complex, they immediately helped us, fixed the key lock box within hours and had already ordered a new dishwasher to be installed the day we were leaving. I would highly recommend this condo.
