French Quarter House Rental Photos and Description

House, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

Maison Violette is one of the best kept secrets in New Orleans, the historical French Quarter home offers a unique New Orleans experience with gracious Southern hospitality.

Maison Violette is located on the historic Esplanade Avenue. Located within a short walking distance of both Frenchman St and the French Market. Esplanade Avenue runs from the Mississippi River front to the intersection with Carrollton Avenue just past Bayou St. John, and the entrance to City Park. Many 19th century mansions still line the street; it functioned as a 'millionaire's row' for the Louisiana Creole section of the city.

The home offers guests a step into the past, yet new and comfortable accommodations with its recent masterful renovation which offers a luxurious, clean, modern comfortable feel. Amenities include a fully furnished kitchen, slate counter tops, stainless appliances in addition to all that one could wish for to cook a gourmet meal, a Japanese soaking tub in the spa like serene bathroom setting, a king size bed dressed in all of the romantic elements the city has to offer and a front porch with a swing to sit back, relax and watch the spirit of a city that is truly alive!

The location of the Maison Violette sits in the heart of New Orleans. No need for a car while staying at the Maison Violette, everything is within walking distance. You want to walk the streets of New Orleans and take in all of history and vibrance the city has to offer as you explore all of the many neighborhoods.

New Orleans offers endless entertainment and attractions through out the year. Stroll the streets and experience all the best attractions, the Riverfront, the French Quarter, Jackson Square, the Fauborg Marigny, the live music venues, famous restaurants (you have to experience a Friday lunch at Galatoire's), the shopping, the museums, the casino, the street car and of course the nightlife, its all here in walking distance!

Amazing Location, Spacious House, Decent Value, but Several Areas in Need of Improvement ASAP

  • 3 of 5

1st, let me say that I really enjoyed trip to NOLA (6 nights at this house). I had never been to the Big Easy before, and this house is perfectly situated on Esplanade, literally on the N. eastern edge of the French Q. The house is also right next to Frenchman district, which is more of a hip, local type area of NOLA, full of music clubs, restaurants, and cafes. It was nice to be close to everything, but just outside of the craziness of the central French Q. We walked everywhere, so if you like to walk and bike, this house is in the perfect spot.

Now to the bad. I subtracted 1 star for the Bed and 1 star for the Bath. Internet also was terrible.

The Bed: Simply put, we could barely sleep on this bed. It was extremely uncomfortable, as in $100 IKEA quality garbage. Our necks and backs were sore on the daily, and I woke up 6 - 7 times per night due to how uncomfortable the bed was. Plain and simple, the bed needs to be removed, thrown away, and replaced. If you want to run a full-time VRBO vacation rental, you cannot skimp on the bed. Invest in a pro-quality Hotel style bed, otherwise, get out of the business. We stayed in the Hotel Monteleone for two nights before staying at this house, and slept in one of the most comfortable king size beds ever, it was like a dream how well we slept. Take a hint... Basically, this put into perspective how bad, uncomfortable, and worthless the mattress is at this house. To put it bluntly, I actually started sleeping on the couch b/c the bed was so bad, which needless to say, put somewhat of a damper on the entire trip b/c we were over-tired and sore every day. And we're young (30-ish), so this is not a matter of being old and/or picky. It is a matter of being a terrible mattress that belongs in the trash.

The Bath: It's cool and unique, but not very functional and efficient. For a 6 day stay, I wish I had a shower. I was over taking weird baths by the 3rd day. So although I think this is an interesting touch, it's just not my style, or really functional for longer stays.

The Internet: The wireless internet is terrible. The signal is weak, and it really only works in the back bathroom and bedroom. I mean seriously!?!?! Wouldn't someone want to use their computer in the kitchen and/or living room?

Anyway, this was a very 5 / 10 experience (2.5 Stars if I could give half stars). I will be back to NOLA for sure, loved it, but this house, not so much. Until they shape up, I'm out on this

Perfect little house!

  • 5 of 5

We were so please with the house and its location! We had 4 guest and had no issues with the accommodations. This is in a beautiful area and very easy to walk or take a quick can ride anywhere in the French Quarter. Tons of cabs passing by to flag down! Although we prefer a shower in the bathroom, the tub worked completely fine. There is a shower head you can use as well. Also, the kitchen is completely stocked with what ever kitchen tools you may need. The house looks exactly like the pictures you see. We will defiantly be staying here again!

My wife and I stayed here for our 10th anniversary and couldn't have been happier. The house was clean, the bed was comfortable, and it was convenient to everywhere we wanted to go. We parked our car about a block and a half away in a pay lot because we were iffy on the street parking because it seemed you needed a permit to park on the street. Will definitely be staying here again.

Loved our home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

We snagged this gem while the rate was on a special so I was a bit skeptical going into it, must admit. As most husbands tell their wives, quit worrying so much. And he was right (don't tell him I uttered those words) THIS PLACE WAS GREAT!! We are familiar with the area as we frequent New Orleans a couple times of year and always stay at the overpriced hotels. We decided to try something new and we are so glad we did.

Location -- Quiet, cool neighborhood near Frenchman Street. Right on the outskirts of French Quarter, we had no problem walking all the way to Canal for breakfast one morning at Palace Cafe. After hefty étouffées and jambalayas each night we don't mind a long stroll while stopping in shops or viewing artwork. If you aren't really mobile or the hover round is in the shop, taxis are everywhere. Make use of the cabs or even the street car.

Parking -- We found street parking for free a little ways away. Definitely look for it because it exists! But make sure you read the signs because you could easily get towed. After two nights of our stay a sweet neighbor, whom we became friends with while sitting on our porch, let us use her spot right in front of the place next to the rental. She was so cool. Sit on the porch swing and pet the resident kitty, you'll see some cool stuff and meet some friendly passerbys.

Place -- Older duplex with LOADS of charm. The details of the home are beautiful. It was clean and well maintained. The kitchen was stocked but I'll admit we frequented local restaurants as well as the touristy ones, so we didn't cook a thing. Don't be alarmed if you enter and the AC isn't cranking, it cools that place down like an ice box once it gets going. Plus, rest assured the owner promptly answered my call when I thought the AC wasn't working. TV worked fine although it was only the hubby watching it while I soaked in the tub. Don't be scared of the tub only bathroom situation either. My husband is 6'1" and while it was a tight squeeze he didn't complain. Be careful stepping down from the tub, he lost his footing one time. I laughed so hard. Bed was comfy, nothing to write home about but I slept like a baby. PS - Funny story, the cat was really active one night and has a peculiar meow. She was meowing outside and I thought someone was screaming outside, maybe being murdered...woke up the husband with a whisper thinking we were next. He thought I was the biggest idiot. I'm a dog person...clearly.

Highly recommend!!

Very New Orleans!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a short trip to New Orleans before I went back to school. It was very spacious, and it included all of the amenities needed for a very enjoyable trip. I fell in love with the large soaking bathtub. It was just what I needed after walking miles on those sometimes bumpy, irregular, and not exactly clean New Orleans streets. On the first night my boyfriend went down to the grocery store, which was just a few blocks away from the house, while I soaked in the tub! It was love at first use! We also enjoyed the swing on the front porch. It was very entertaining to watch the people and cars pass by. Overall, it was a very relaxing trip, and it was just what I needed before I have to go back to the stresses of school.
