Nice cabin that needs more attention

The owners had just begun renting this cabin out to visitors about a month before our three families with a total of 5 adults and 6 young kids spent 3 days there during Presidents Weekend of 2011. The cabin is large enough for all of us to share comfortably, though the bedroom on the main floor with a bunk bed and queen is quite small. The roomy kitchen is open to the dining area and living room and the appliances are gourmet quality. But it didn't seem that the cabin was properly maintained for our visit. The driveway wasn't cleared of snow when we arrived late Friday night, nor was there a proper snow shovel available. So 3 of us ended up spending 2 hours (until 1:15am) using gardening tools to clear an area large enough for us to park. The house isn't very well insulated, and 2 of the bedrooms don't have heat registers, so they were too cold to sleep in. We weren't able to get the gas fireplace to operate either. The house's DSL connection didn't work, and one of the beds in an upper bedroom appears to be made of cardboard. I'm sure this would be a comfortable cabin to stay if the owners able to properly maintain it.

Owner's Response: I feel terrible about this renter’s experience getting into the driveway. The snow plow service can only come so often. In between snow plows, there will be snow accumulated in the driveway, especially in heavy snow weather like what we’ve had. That’s why we provide a snow shovel in the mud room. Unfortunately, the previous renter left it outside and was buried by the snow storm. The renters found it on the day they were leaving, which was too late. We will definitely remind our future renters to return the snow shovel back to the mud room before they leave, so that no one has to go through what this renter went through. As for the gas fireplace, it works. The next renter was able to start it without any problem. We will look more into it. I do have to apologies for the DSL connection. Someone pulled the wire from the wall and some wires got loose on the phone jack. I was not able to find anyone to go over to fix it during the President’s weekend. It has been fixed already. I’m not sure about the cardboard reference. The beds in the upstairs bedroom are newly purchased, made of pine wood. I do want to thank the renter for giving us an excellent suggestion about space heaters. We will provide them for our future renters. It is true that we are new at this vacation renting. We’d like to do our best to provide a comfortable place for our renters’ stay. Any suggestions and feedbacks help us achieving that end. We love our cabin and hope our renters will love it too.
