HISTORY OF THE ISLAND
Located on Florida’s Southwest Gulf Cost of Mexico is the Paradise Island of Upper Captiva Island.
Upper Captiva Island is also called North Captiva Island and is located north of Captiva Island and south Cayo Costa Island.
Calusa Indians first inhabited Captiva Island over 6,000 years ago up until the conquistadors arrived and nearly wiped out the tribes.
Ponce De Leon sailed these waters in the early 1500’s and famous pirates frequented the Island such as Jose’ Gaspar. The Island earned its name from the women held “captive” by the pirates for ransom.
Some believe a pirate treasure is buried on these islands, just waiting to be discovered.
A hurricane in 1921 severed Captiva Island into two separate landmasses, thus creating the island that we now know as “Upper or North Captiva Island” There are no Bridges or roads to captiva. Access is only by boat or small aircraft. (Click “Getting Here” for information on getting to North Captiva Island.)
This lush secluded barrier island is famous for it’s breath taking sunsets and pristine white sandy beaches that offer true unspoiled natural beauty. A tropical island playground awaits you at upper Captiva Island, “Come enjoy the ultimate Island Experience!”

Having been a professional Yacht Captain in the Carribbean for many years I have visited every island in the Carribbean. Discovering North Captiva I realized North Captiva offered the best of all worlds and was where I wanted to be. Having grown up in Atlanta Georgia, I learned to appreciate the scenic beauty and the privacy that North Captiva has to offer.
Yachting is all about pride of ownership. Having owned and operated numerous luxury charter yachts I know that clients appreciate the attention to detail and the pride of ownership that guest will experience when renting my home 'LAS OLAS'.
Steve purchased this house in 2010
Why Steve chose North Captiva Island
North Captiva offers seclusion and privacy yet only 5 miles off shore. While the rest of the world is over whelmed with the problems of daily life, North Captiva is a sanctuary from the stresses of daily Life. Everyone on island is so warm and friendly. Quite often friendships are made by simply stopping in the golf cart to chat with neighbors on island. North Captiva represents a simpler time when life was about enjoying the scenic beauty that nature has to offer. Las Olas is located near the state park nature preserve on the higher elevation side of the island.
What makes this house unique

The private heated Pool! The large screened in Lanai off the living room. The 5 story observation deck which affords 360 degree views and is a great way to enjoy the end of a perfect day on North Captiva.
