If you are looking for a quiet place to rest your bones & recharge your batteries...this is the place. It is a 700 sq ft cottage on 13,000 square feet of land with beautiful views of the surrounding Monterey Pines and Oaks.
The cottage has all the ''creature comforts'' of your own home including a complete fully equipped kitchen....but if cooking is not on the agenda for the day, no need to start the car just enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner at the 5 star restaurants of the Highlands Inn. It is just a quick 2 minute walk away.
If staying in is your style, you can BBQ & watch your favorite TV/sports program on the 42' HD flat screen TV or sit on the front patio w/ your beverage of choice & enjoy a partial view of the ocean & the south side of famous Point Lobos State Park...or you can take a short peaceful walk to catch the beauty of the crashing waves on the coast at sunset....whatever you choose to do...you will be glad you stayed at the Cottage by the Sea to relax & enjoy.
What Is Great About Us!: What is is that they say that makes something great???? Location, Location, Location....and we have just that! Our home offers the quiet and the serenity with the views, the vistas, the crashing waves and the majesty of the pines and oaks. Our little cottage's location is seemingly so far away for the peace and relaxation we all seek...yet so close at hand for excellent dining and shopping in Carmel by the Sea, hiking at Point Lobos State Park, driving 17 mile at Pebble Beach, listening and watching the 'lone bagpiper' come down the fairway at Spanish Bay at sunset, visiting Monterey's Ocean Aquarium and wharf, dining at the Highlands Inn (HI) 5-star restaurants and/or listening to jazz/light entertainment in the HI Great Room while enjoying the beauty of the Monterey Coastline...a little piece of paradise located perfectly to suit all your needs.
Jann and I (Scott) bought this place in April of 2009 and completely remodeled the property with the idea of reselling it...but the more time we spent on the property working the more we fell in love with the beauty and peacefulness it provided. We changed our minds (thank goodness!) and realized that this was a 'little jewel' that we could not let go...so we share it with you and hope you find the same feeling of joy and tranquility that we have come to know and enjoy during our (and your) stays here.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 2009
We have visited the Carmel area and the Highlands Inn for years and always wanted to be able to live in the area...we were fortunate to come across this home in 2009 and turn it into a great getaway for us (and now or you) and a permanent place for us to land in the future. We loved the idea of being so close at hand for all the 'cultural things' we enjoy and yet felt when we turned into our driveway we were definitely away from it all.

We had the BEST time at this cottage!! It is located in the most amazing neighborhood. Absolutely peaceful and tranquil. A great place to recharge batteries!! The cottage is so comfortable you won't want to leave! The location is perfect .... nothing is to far away, and there is an amazing beach just minutes down the street.
Many thanks to Jann and Scott for sharing their gem. We thoroughly enjoyed hanging out on the deck with our pups Jojo and Roxi. Now to figure out when we can make it back! :)
This is the third time me and my family have stayed at this adorable cottage by the sea. You cannot beat the location or the views at this cottage. The surrounding area is unbelievably beautiful and serene. Every morning you wake-up, it's like you are in a fairy tale. There is so much to do in the area, Point Lobos is a 3 minute drive away, amazing hikes in Garrapata State Park, Carmel by the Sea is a 10 minute drive away. There is so much to do and nothing is too far away, however you still feel like you are in your own little forest cove at this gorgeous cottage. It's quiet enough to hear the sounds of the ocean and peaceful enough to relax and enjoy the beauty. The owners are incredibly nice and accommodating, they always go above and beyond to make your trip special. When we arrived this last time there were so many festive pumpkins and fresh flowers a bottle of wine and the most decadent fancy chocolate cake I have ever seen. Seriously, the kind you see in a case and think...hmmm, maybe one day on a special occasion I will buy myself a cake like that, well that day came true for me and it was amazing, thank you!!! Honestly, there are nothing but a million great things to say about this cottage and the owners.
This was our second time staying at the Cottage. Love, love this place. So comfortable and quiet. It was home base for us as we drove up the coast and back checking out the scenery. The weather was perfect. The place was perfect. Love the fresh flowers and how she left us a surprise in the refrigerator. A bottle of wine and chocolate cake. Yum yum. Thank you so much for the use of your home and allowing us to bring our lil Frenchie with us. She loved the deck and laying in the sun and going for walks down the street. Happy too that the beaches allowed dogs on them. Will definitely be back again.
Absolutely amazing home! Cottage by the Sea exudes a feeling of warmth and comfort from the moment you arrive. Nestled in the pines overlooking the ocean, this cottage is not only well maintained and spotless, but impeccably decorated. No detail is left for the traveler; the hostess literally thought of every possible amenity one may need, including no-slip socks for the hardwood floors; magnifying mirror for us women who like to put on make - up; plush regular and over-sized pillows for maximum comfort; upscale, luxurious, bedding and sheets; fresh coffee; roses and birthday cake with card waiting for me upon arrival; picnic basket with beach towels; fully stocked kitchen with new, clean utensils and dishes; and, large walk-in closet with matching robes. The Cottage has a deck on the front side that overlooks the beautiful succulent gardens with umbrella, table and chairs, and also a fire pit and bbq on the back side with another higher sitting area where you can catch glimpses of the ocean. The neighborhood is peaceful and quiet. We took long walks and ocean views were breathtaking. Having the Highlands Inn 1/4 mile away was so great because on Friday and Saturday evenings, it offers live music with a large lounge and dance floor overlooking the ocean. Point Lobos is a 2 minute drive and is definitely a must see-so many magnificent trails to explore and views to capture with sea lions, sea otters, whales, birds etc. We also went to Rocky Point Restaurant, about an 8 mile drive south from the cottage, and well worth it for the food and the view of the ocean. Monastery beach is a 5 minute drive and was beautiful.
I have been renting vacation homes from VRBO for over 15 years, and I have never experienced a hostess like Jann before. Jann truly cares about her guests - she is genuinely invested in the outcome of their stay. Jann spends energy and time making sure her guests are completely comfortable by personalizing the Cottage to fit the guests particular needs. I cannot wait to return to Cottage by the Sea; I highly, without reservation, recommend it to all travelers.
My wife and I came here for a weekend getaway. From the start when we made our reservations, the owner was right there with us. She provided us with so much insight and was so nice that we would come back again, just on the customer service alone. She even re-arranged another groups arrival (who were regular visitors) so we can stay an extra day, making it a full three day weekend. The instructions from the owner regarding the cottage were clear and easy to follow.
The cottage is set up in a forest, just up from the coast. It is a little tricky to get to, but once we got there, it was easier to navigate through the area. The cottage itself is a one bedroom/one bath, yet big enough for an entire family. My wife and I brought our two dogs also and we were very comfortable. There is a patio out front and another area in the rear of the cottage to sit. There is also a fireplace at the rear of the cottage. There is a great view of the ocean just up the main street, only a few minutes walk. The cottage itself is beautiful, with every space being functional and beautiful. If you look out any of the windows, all you see are trees.
Around the area are great hiking trails, the most popular being Point Lobos State Park. There are also tons of areas to hike in the area. We wished we were here longer to enjoy all of the area has to offer. The Carmel, Pacific Grove and Monterey area are all beautiful and there is a lot to do. So if you like a cottage in nature, along with the beauty of the coast, this is your place. We are already planning when we will come back because the accommodations were so beautiful.
Thank you so much for allowing my family to stay at your beautiful cottage! It is decorated to perfection and as clean & cozy as you could imagine. The open yard is filled with gorgeous plants, trees, flowers and succulents. You can even spot the ocean from certain parts of the property. The morning walks are beautiful through the wooded area surrounding it & having meals at the table outside were fantastic. In my opinion, this is the perfect little getaway home!
Close to Point Lobos State Park, the Monterey Wharf and Monterey Bay Aquarium, TOR house tours on Fri/Sat only, wine room tastings available in the Carmel and Carmel Valley area and many special events in the area (ie: Mazda Raceway & Laguna Seca/Motocross/ MotoGP, Concours d'Elegance, Monterey Jazz Festival) scheduled throughout the year. Visit and/or tour the Carmel Mission and the Carmelite Monastery just off Highway 1....and don't forget about Big Sur being so close...Lots to do and see.
